Judges 20 Then all the sons of Israel went out, and the company was congregated as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, to the LORD in Mizpeh.

2 H6438 And the chief H5971 of all the people, H7626 even of all the tribes H3478 of Israel, H3320 [H8691] presented H6951 themselves in the congregation H5971 of the people H430 of God, H702 four H3967 hundred H505 thousand H376 H7273 footmen H8025 [H8802] that drew H2719 sword.

3 H1121 (Now the sons H1144 of Benjamin H8085 [H8799] heard H1121 that the sons H3478 of Israel H5927 [H8804] were gone up H4709 to Mizpeh. H559 [H8799] ) Then said H1121 the sons H3478 of Israel, H1696 [H8761] Tell H1961 [H8738] us, how was H7451 this evil?

4 H3881 H376 And the Levite, H376 the husband H802 of the woman H7523 [H8737] that was slain, H6030 [H8799] answered H559 [H8799] and said, H935 [H8804] I came H1390 into Gibeah H1144 that belongeth to Benjamin, H6370 I and my concubine, H3885 [H8800] to lodge.

5 H1167 And the men H1390 of Gibeah H6965 [H8799] rose H5437 [H8799] against me, and surrounded H1004 the house H3915 upon me by night, H1819 [H8765] and thought H2026 [H8800] to have slain H6370 me: and my concubine H6031 [H8765] have they forced, H4191 [H8799] that she is dead.

6 H270 [H8799] And I took H6370 my concubine, H5408 [H8762] and cut her in pieces, H7971 [H8762] and sent H7704 her throughout all the country H5159 of the inheritance H3478 of Israel: H6213 [H8804] for they have committed H2154 lewdness H5039 and folly H3478 in Israel.

7 H1121 Behold, ye are all sons H3478 of Israel; H3051 [H8798] give H1988 here H1697 your advice H6098 and counsel.

8 H5971 And all the people H6965 [H8799] arose H259 as one H376 man, H559 [H8800] saying, H376 We will not any H3212 [H8799] of us go H168 to his tent, H376 neither will we any H5493 [H8799] of us turn H1004 into his house.

9 H1697 But now this shall be the thing H6213 [H8799] which we will do H1390 to Gibeah; H1486 we will go up by lot against it;

10 H3947 [H8804] And we will take H6235 ten H582 men H3967 of an hundred H7626 throughout all the tribes H3478 of Israel, H3967 and an hundred H505 of a thousand, H505 and a thousand H7233 out of ten thousand, H3947 [H8800] to fetch H6720 provisions H5971 for the people, H6213 [H8800] that they may do, H935 [H8800] when they come H1387 to Gibeah H1144 of Benjamin, H5039 according to all the folly H6213 [H8804] that they have wrought H3478 in Israel.

11 H376 So all the men H3478 of Israel H622 [H8735] were gathered H5892 against the city, H2270 knit together H259 as one H376 man.

12 H7626 And the tribes H3478 of Israel H7971 [H8799] sent H582 men H7626 through all the tribe H1144 of Benjamin, H559 [H8800] saying, H7451 What evil H1961 [H8738] is this that is done among you?

13 H5414 [H8798] Now therefore give H582 us the men, H1100 the worthless H1121 men, H1390 who are in Gibeah, H4191 [H8686] that we may put them to death, H1197 [H8762] and remove H7451 the evil H3478 from Israel. H1121 But the sons H1144 of Benjamin H14 [H8804] would H8085 [H8800] not hearken H6963 to the voice H251 of their brethren H1121 the sons H3478 of Israel:

14 H1121 But the sons H1144 of Benjamin H622 [H8735] gathered themselves together H5892 out of the cities H1390 to Gibeah, H3318 [H8800] to go out H4421 to battle H1121 against the sons H3478 of Israel.

15 H1121 And the sons H1144 of Benjamin H6485 [H8691] were numbered H3117 at that time H5892 out of the cities H6242 twenty H8337 and six H505 thousand H376 men H8025 [H8802] that drew H2719 sword, H3427 [H8802] besides the inhabitants H1390 of Gibeah, H6485 [H8694] who were numbered H7651 seven H3967 hundred H977 [H8803] chosen H376 men.

16 H5971 Among all this people H7651 there were seven H3967 hundred H977 [H8803] chosen H376 men H334 H3027 H3225 lefthanded; H7049 [H8802] every one could sling H68 stones H8185 at an hair H2398 [H8686] breadth, and not miss.

17 H376 And the men H3478 of Israel, H1144 besides Benjamin, H6485 [H8694] were numbered H702 four H3967 hundred H505 thousand H376 men H8025 [H8802] that drew H2719 sword: H376 all these were men H4421 of war.

18 H1121 And the sons H3478 of Israel H6965 [H8799] arose, H5927 [H8799] and went up H1004 to the house H430 H1008 [H8677] of God, H7592 [H8799] and asked H430 counsel of God, H559 [H8799] and said, H4310 Which H5927 [H8799] of us shall go up H8462 first H4421 to the battle H1121 against the sons H1144 of Benjamin? H3068 And the LORD H559 [H8799] said, H3063 Judah H8462 shall go up first.

19 H1121 And the sons H3478 of Israel H6965 [H8799] rose H1242 in the morning, H2583 [H8799] and encamped H1390 against Gibeah.

20 H376 And the men H3478 of Israel H3318 [H8799] went out H4421 to battle H1144 against Benjamin; H376 and the men H3478 of Israel H6186 [H8799] put themselves in array H4421 to fight H1390 against them at Gibeah.

21 H1121 And the sons H1144 of Benjamin H3318 [H8799] came forth H1390 from Gibeah, H7843 [H8686] and decayed down H776 to the earth H3478 of the Israelites H3117 that day H6242 twenty H8147 and two H505 thousand H376 men.

22 H5971 And the people H376 the men H3478 of Israel H2388 [H8691] encouraged H4421 themselves, and set their battle H3254 [H8686] again H6186 [H8800] in array H4725 in the place H6186 [H8804] where they put themselves in array H7223 the first H3117 day.

23 H1121 (And the sons H3478 of Israel H5927 [H8799] went up H1058 [H8799] and wept H6440 at the face of H3068 the LORD H6153 until evening, H7592 [H8799] and asked H3068 counsel of the LORD, H559 [H8800] saying, H5066 [H8800] Shall I go up H3254 [H8686] again H4421 to battle H1121 against the sons H1144 of Benjamin H251 my brother? H3068 And the LORD H559 [H8799] said, H5927 [H8798] Go up against him.)

24 H1121 And the sons H3478 of Israel H7126 [H8799] came near H1121 against the sons H1144 of Benjamin H8145 the second H3117 day.

25 H1144 And Benjamin H3318 [H8799] went forth H7125 [H8800] against H1390 them out of Gibeah H8145 the second H3117 day, H7843 [H8686] and decayed down H776 to the earth H1121 of the sons H3478 of Israel H8083 H6240 again eighteen H505 thousand H376 men; H8025 [H8802] all these drew H2719 the sword.

26 H1121 Then all the sons H3478 of Israel, H5971 and all the people, H5927 [H8799] went up, H935 [H8799] and came H1004 to the house H430 H1008 [H8677] of God, H1058 [H8799] and wept, H3427 [H8799] and sat H6440 there at the face of H3068 the LORD, H6684 [H8799] and fasted H3117 that day H6153 until evening, H5927 [H8686] and offered H5930 burnt offerings H8002 and peace offerings H6440 at the face of H3068 the LORD.

27 H1121 And the sons H3478 of Israel H7592 [H8799] enquired H3068 of the LORD, H727 (for the ark H1285 of the testament H430 of God H3117 was there in those days,

28 H6372 And Phinehas, H1121 the son H499 of Eleazar, H1121 the son H175 of Aaron, H5975 [H8802] stood H6440 at the face of H3117 it in those days, H559 [H8800] ) saying, H3254 [H8686] Shall I yet again H3318 [H8800] go out H4421 to battle H1121 against the sons H1144 of Benjamin H251 my brother, H2308 [H8799] or shall I cease? H3068 And the LORD H559 [H8799] said, H5927 [H8798] Go up; H4279 for to morrow H5414 [H8799] I will give H3027 them into thine hand.

29 H3478 And Israel H7760 [H8799] set H693 [H8802] men in ambush H5439 around H1390 Gibeah.

30 H1121 And the sons H3478 of Israel H5927 [H8799] went up H1121 against the sons H1144 of Benjamin H7992 on the third H3117 day, H6186 [H8799] and put themselves in array H1390 against Gibeah, H6471 as at other times.

31 H1121 And the sons H1144 of Benjamin H3318 [H8799] went out H7125 [H8800] against H5971 the people, H5423 [H8717] and were drawn away H5892 from the city; H2490 [H8686] and they began H5221 [H8687] to smite H5971 of the people, H2491 and kill, H6471 as at other times, H4546 in the highways, H259 of which one H5927 [H8802] goeth up H1004 to the house H430 H1008 [H8677] of God, H259 and the other H1390 to Gibeah H7704 in the field, H7970 about thirty H376 men H3478 of Israel.

32 H1121 And the sons H1144 of Benjamin H559 [H8799] said, H5062 [H8737] They are smitten down H6440 at the face of H7223 us, as at the first. H1121 But the sons H3478 of Israel H559 [H8804] said, H5127 [H8799] Let us flee, H5423 [H8804] and draw H5892 them from the city H4546 to the highways.

33 H376 And all the men H3478 of Israel H6965 [H8804] rose H4725 out of their place, H6186 [H8799] and put themselves in array H1193 at Baaltamar: H3478 and those of Israel H693 [H8802] who were in ambush H1518 [H8688] came forth H4725 out of their places, H4629 even out of the meadows H1387 of Gibeah.

34 H935 [H8799] And there came H5048 against H1390 Gibeah H6235 ten H505 thousand H977 [H8803] chosen H376 men H3478 out of all Israel, H4421 and the battle H3513 [H8804] was heavy: H3045 [H8804] but they knew H7451 not that evil H5060 [H8802] was near them.

35 H3068 And the LORD H5062 [H8799] smote H1144 Benjamin H6440 at the face of H3478 Israel: H1121 and the sons H3478 of Israel H7843 [H8686] decayed H1145 of the Benjamites H3117 that day H6242 twenty H2568 and five H505 thousand H3967 and an hundred H376 men: H8025 [H8802] all these drew H2719 the sword.

36 H1121 So the sons H1144 of Benjamin H7200 [H8799] saw H5062 [H8738] that they were smitten: H376 for the men H3478 of Israel H5414 [H8799] gave H4725 place H1145 to the Benjamites, H982 [H8804] because they trusted H693 [H8802] to the ones lying in ambush H7760 [H8804] which they had set H1390 beside Gibeah.

37 H693 [H8802] And those in ambush H2363 [H8689] hastened, H6584 [H8799] and rushed H1390 upon Gibeah; H693 [H8802] and the ones lying in ambush H4900 [H8799] drew themselves along, H5221 [H8686] and smote H5892 all the city H6310 with the edge H2719 of the sword.

38 H4150 Now there was an appointed sign H376 between the men H3478 of Israel H5973 and H693 [H8802] the men in ambush, H7235 [H8685] that they should make a great H4864 flame H6227 with smoke H5927 [H8687] to ascend up H5892 from the city.

39 H376 And when the men H3478 of Israel H2015 [H8799] retired H4421 in the battle, H1144 Benjamin H2490 [H8689] began H5221 [H8687] to smite H2491 and kill H376 of the men H3478 of Israel H7970 about thirty H376 persons: H559 [H8804] for they said, H5062 [H8736] Surely H5062 [H8737] they are smitten down H6440 at the face of H7223 us, as in the first H4421 battle.

40 H4864 But when the flame H2490 [H8689] began H5927 [H8800] to ascend up H5892 from the city H5982 with a pillar H6227 of smoke, H1145 the Benjamites H6437 [H8799] looked H310 behind H3632 them, and, behold, the flame H5892 of the city H5927 [H8804] ascended up H8064 to heaven.

41 H376 And when the men H3478 of Israel H2015 [H8804] turned again, H376 the men H1144 of Benjamin H926 [H8735] were amazed: H7200 [H8804] for they saw H7451 that evil H5060 [H8804] had come upon them.

42 H6437 [H8799] Therefore they turned H6440 their backs at the face of H376 the men H3478 of Israel H1870 to the way H4057 of the wilderness; H4421 but the battle H1692 [H8689] overtook H5892 them; and those who came out of the cities H7843 [H8688] they decayed H8432 in the midst of them.

43 H3803 [H8765] Thus they inclosed H1145 the Benjamites H3803 [H8765] on all sides, H7291 [H8689] and chased H1869 [H8689] them, and trod them down H4496 with ease H5227 opposite H1390 Gibeah H4217 H8121 toward the sunrising.

44 H5307 [H8799] And there fell H1144 of Benjamin H8083 H6240 eighteen H505 thousand H376 men; H582 all these were men H2428 of valour.

45 H6437 [H8799] And they turned H5127 [H8799] and fled H4057 toward the wilderness H5553 to the rock H7417 of Rimmon: H5953 [H8779] and they gleaned H4546 of them in the highways H2568 five H505 thousand H376 men; H1692 [H8686] and pursued H310 hard after H1440 them to Gidom, H5221 [H8686] and slew H505 two thousand H376 men of them.

46 H5307 [H8802] So that all who fell H3117 that day H1144 of Benjamin H6242 were twenty H2568 and five H505 thousand H376 men H8025 [H8802] that drew H2719 the sword; H582 all these were men H2428 of valour.

47 H8337 But six H3967 hundred H376 men H6437 [H8799] turned H5127 [H8799] and fled H4057 to the wilderness H5553 to the rock H7417 Rimmon, H3427 [H8799] and abode H5553 in the rock H7417 Rimmon H702 four H2320 months.

48 H376 And the men H3478 of Israel H7725 [H8804] turned again H1121 upon the sons H1144 of Benjamin, H5221 [H8686] and smote H6310 them with the edge H2719 of the sword, H4974 both the entire H5892 city, H5704 and H929 the beast, H4672 [H8737] and all that they found: H7971 [H8765] also they set H784 on fire H5892 all the cities H4672 [H8737] that they found.
