And these cities shall be for you a refuge, that the slayer may not be put to death by the avenger of blood, until he stand before the congregation for trial; 4 [Omitted] 5 [Omitted] 6 [Omitted] 7 and he had set apart Kades, in Galilee, on mount Nephthaleim, and Sychem, on mount Ephraim, and the city Arbok, which is Chebron, on the mountain of Juda: 8 And on the bank of the Jordan they had given Bosor, in the wilderness, in the plain, from the tribe of Reuben, and Aremoth in Galaad, from the tribe of Gad, and Gaulon in Basanitis from the tribe of Manasses. 9 These are the cities renowned among the children of Israel and the proselytes who dwell among them, for every one who smiteth a person unawares to flee thither, that he may not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stand before the congregation for trial.

Leeser(i) 1 And the Lord spoke unto Joshua, saying, 2 speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint for yourselves the cities of refuge, whereof I have spoken unto you by the hand of Moses; 3 That thither may flee the manslayer that killeth any person unawares, without knowledge; and they shall be unto you for a refuge from the avenger of the blood. 4 And he shall flee unto one of those cities, and he shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and speak in the ears of the elders of that city his words; and they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them. 5 And if the avenger of the blood should pursue after him, then shall they not deliver the manslayer up into his hand; because without knowledge did he smite his neighbor, and he was not an enemy to him in time past. 6 And he shall dwell in that city, until he shall have stood before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high-priest that may be in those days: then shall the manslayer return, and come unto his own house, unto the city whence he hath fled. 7 And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in the mountain of Naphtali, and Shechem in the mountain of Ephraim, and Kiryath-arba’, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah. 8 And on the other side of the Jordan by Jericho eastward, they appointed Bezer in the wilderness in the plain from the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gil’ad from the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan from the tribe of Menasseh. 9 These were the cities assigned for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that thither might flee whosoever killeth any person at unawares, and that he should not die by the hand of the avenger of the blood, until he have stood before the congregation.
YLT(i) 1 And Jehovah speaketh unto Joshua, saying, 2 `Speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, Give for you cities of refuge, as I have spoken unto you by the hand of Moses, 3 for the fleeing thither of a man-slayer smiting life inadvertently, without knowledge; and they have been to you for a refuge from the redeemer of blood. 4 `When one hath fled unto one of these cities, and hath stood at the opening of the gate of the city, and hath spoken in the ears of the elders of that city his matter, then they have gathered him into the city unto them, and have given to him a place, and he hath dwelt with them. 5 `And when the redeemer of blood doth pursue after him, then they do not shut up the man-slayer into his hand, for without knowledge he hath smitten his neighbour, and is not hating him hitherto; 6 and he hath dwelt in that city till his standing before the company for judgment, till the death of the chief priest who is in those days—then doth the man-slayer turn back and hath come unto his city, and unto his house, unto the city whence he fled.'
7 And they sanctify Kedesh in Galilee, in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kirjath-Arba (it is Hebron), in the hill-country of Judah; 8 and beyond the Jordan, at Jericho eastward, they have given Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain, out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh. 9 These have been cities of meeting for all the sons of Israel, and for a sojourner who is sojourning in their midst, for the fleeing thither of any one smiting life inadvertently, and he doth not die by the hand of the redeemer of blood till his standing before the company.
JuliaSmith(i) 1 And Jehovah will speak to Joshua, saying, 2 Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, Ye shall give to yourselves cities of refuge which I spake to you by the hand of Moses: 3 For the slayer smiting a soul in mistake and without knowledge, to flee there: and they shall be to you for refuge from the nearest kinsman of blood. 4 And he fled to one of these cities and stood at the door of the gate of the city, and spake in the ears of the old men of that city, his words, and they received him into the city to them, and they gave to him a place, and he dwelt with them. 5 And if the nearest relation of blood shall pursue after him, and they shall not deliver over the slayer into his hand; for without knowing he smote his friend, and he hated him not from yesterday the third day. 6 And he shall dwell in that city till his standing before the assembly for judgment, till the death of the great priest which shall be in those days: then the slayer shall turn back and come to his city and to his house, to the city which he fled from there. 7 And they will consecrate Kadesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and the city of Arba (this in Hebron) in mount Judah. 8 And from beyond Jordan of Jericho from the sunrising, they gave Bezer in the desert in the plain from the tribe of Reuben and Ramoth, in Gilead, from the tribe of Gad; and Golan in Bashan, from the tribe of Manasseh. 9 These were cities of appointment for all the sons of Israel, and for the stranger sojourning in the midst of them, to flee there, every one smiting a soul in mistake: and he shall not die by the hand of the nearest relation of blood till his standing before the assembly.

Rotherham(i) 1 And Yahweh spake unto Joshua, saying: 2 Speak unto the sons of Israel, saying,––Set out for you the cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you, by the hand of Moses: 3 that the manslayer who slayeth a person by mistake, unwittingly, may flee thither,––so shall they be unto you for refuge from the blood–redeemer, 4 and he shall flee unto one of these cities and present himself at the entrance of the gate of the city, and shall speak, in the ears of the elders of that city, his defence,––and they shall take him for protection into the city unto them, and shall give him a place, so shall he dwell with them. 5 And, when the blood–redeemer pursueth after him, then shall they not deliver up the manslayer, into his hand,––because, unwittingly, it was that he slew his neighbour, and had not been, cherishing hatred, towards him, aforetime; 6 so shall he remain in that city, until he standeth before the assembly, for judgment, until the death of the high–priest who shall be in those days,––then, shall the manslayer return, and enter into his own city, and into his own house, within the city from whence he fled.
7 So then they set apart Kadesh in Galilee, in the hill country of Naphtali, and Shechem, in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath–arba, the same, is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah. 8 And, beyond the Jordan, by Jericho eastward, they appointed Bezer in the wilderness, in the table–land, out of the tribe of Reuben,––and Ramoth in Gilead, out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan, out of the tribe of Manasseh. 9 These, were the cities appointed for all the sons of Israel, and for the sojourner who sojourneth in their midst, that whosoever should slay a person by mistake, might flee thither,––and not die by the hand of the blood–redeemer, until he should stand before the assembly.

BBE(i) 1 And the Lord said to Joshua, 2 Say to the children of Israel, Let certain towns be marked out as safe places, as I said to you by the mouth of Moses, 3 So that any man who in error and without design has taken the life of another, may go in flight to them: and they will be safe places for you from him who has the right of punishment for blood. 4 And if anyone goes in flight to one of those towns, and comes into the public place of the town, and puts his cause before the responsible men of the town, they will take him into the town and give him a place among them where he may be safe. 5 And if the one who has the right of punishment comes after him, they are not to give the taker of life up to him; because he was the cause of his neighbour's death without designing it and not in hate. 6 And he is to go on living in that town till he has to come before the meeting of the people to be judged; till the death of him who is high priest at that time: then the taker of life may come back to his town and to his house, to the town from which he had gone in flight. 7 So they made selection of Kedesh in Galilee in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba which is Hebron in the hill-country of Judah. 8 And on the east side of Jordan at Jericho, they made selection of Bezer in the waste land, in the table-land, out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh. 9 These were the towns marked out for all the children of Israel and for the man from a strange country living among them, so that anyone causing the death of another in error, might go in flight there, and not be put to death by him who has the right of punishment for blood till he had come before the meeting of the people.

Then the manslayer shall return and come to his city, and to his house, to the city from where he fled. 7 And they set apart Kadesh in Galilee, in the hills of Naphtali; and Shechem in the hills of Ephraim; and Kirjath-arba (it is Hebron) in the hills of Judah. 8 And beyond the Jordan, at Jericho eastward, they gave Bezer in the wilderness, on the tableland out of the tribe of Reuben; and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad; and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh. 9 These were the appointed cities for all the sons of Israel, and for the alien who was living in their midst, that he who had killed anyone without knowing might flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

Then the manslayer shall return and come to his city, and to his house, to the city from where he fled. 7 And they set apart Kadesh in Galilee, in the hills of Naphtali; and Shechem in the hills of Ephraim; and Kirjath-arba; (it is Hebron) in the hills of Judah. 8 And beyond the Jordan, at Jericho eastward, they gave Bezer in the wilderness, on the tableland out of the tribe of Reuben; and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad; and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh. 9 These were the appointed cities for all the sons of Israel, and for the alien who was living in their midst, that he who had struck anyone mortally without knowing might flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

CITIES OF REFUGE Yah Veh words to Yah Shua, saying, 2 Word to the sons of Yisra El, saying, Give yourselves cities of refuge, as I worded to you by the hand of Mosheh: 3 for the murderer who smites a soul by inadvertent error unknowingly to flee to: to be your refuge from the redeemer of blood. 4 And when one flees to one of those cities and stands at the portal of the portal of the city and words his word in the ears of the elders of that city, they gather him into the city to themselves and give him a place to settle among them. 5 And when the redeemer of blood pursues after him, they shut not the murderer into his hand - because he smote his friend unknowingly and hated him not three yesters ago: 6 and he settles in that city until he stands at the face of the witness for judgment until the death of the great priest being in those days: then the murderer returns and comes to his own city and to his own house to the city whence he fled. 7 And they hallow Qedesh Galiyl in mount Naphtali and Shechem in mount Ephrayim and Qiryath Arba, which is Hebron in the mountain of Yah Hudah: 8 and beyond Yarden by Yericho toward the rising they gave Beser in the wilderness on the plain from the rod of Reu Ben and Ramoth in Gilad from the rod of Gad and Golan in Bashan from the rod of Manesh Sheh. 9 These are the appointed cities for all the sons of Yisra El and for the sojourner sojourning among them, for whoever smites a soul by inadvertent error to flee to and not die by the hand of the redeemer of blood until he stands at the face of the witness.

Then the manslayer shall return, and come to his own city, and to his own house, to the city from where he fled. 7 And they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba (the same is Hebron) in the hill-country of Judah. 8 And beyond the Jordan at Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness in the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh. 9 These were the appointed cities for all the sons of Israel, and for the stranger who sojourns among them, that whoever kills any soul unwittingly might flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood until he stood before the congregation.

CAB(i) 1 And the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying, 2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Assign the cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you by Moses. 3 Even a refuge to the manslayer who has killed a man unintentionally; and the cities shall be to you a refuge, and the manslayer shall not be put to death by the avenger of blood, until he has stood before the congregation for judgment. 4 (TEXT OMITTED) 5 (TEXT OMITTED) 6 (TEXT OMITTED) 7 And Joshua separated Kadesh in Galilee in the mountains of Nephthali, and Shechem in the mountains of Ephraim, and the city of Arba; this is Hebron, in the mountains of Judah. 8 And beyond the Jordan he appointed Bezer in the wilderness in the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in the country of Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh. 9 These were the cities selected for the sons of Israel, and for the stranger abiding among them, that everyone who kills a man unintentionally should flee to there, that he should not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he should stand before the congregation for judgment.
LXX2012(i) 1 And the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying, 2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Assign the cities of refuge, [of] which I spoke to you by Moses. 3 [Even] a refuge to the slayer who has struck a man unintentionally; and the cities shall be to you a refuge, and the slayer shall not be put to death by the avenger of blood, until he have stood before the congregation for judgment. 4 And Joshua separated Cades in Galilee in the mount Nephthali, and Sychem in the mount Ephraim, and the city of Arboc; this is Chebron, in the mountain of Juda. 5 And beyond Jordan he appointed Bosor in the wilderness in the plain out of the tribe of Ruben, and Aremoth in Galaad out of the tribe of Gad, and Gaulon in the country of Basan out of the tribe of Manasse. 6 These [were] the cities selected for the sons of Israel, and for the stranger dwelling among them, that every one who smites a soul unintentionally should flee there, that he should not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he should stand before the congregation for judgment.
NSB(i) 1 Jehovah spoke to Joshua, saying: 2 Speak to the children of Israel and say: »Designate cities of refuge just as Moses directed. 3 »Anyone who kills someone accidentally and unintentionally may go there for a refuge from the avenger of blood. 4 »When you flee to one of these cities you must go to the place of judgment at the entrance to the city, and explain to the leaders what happened. Then they will let you into the city and give you a place to live in, so that you can stay there. 5 »If the one looking for revenge follows you there, the people of the city must not hand you over to that one. They must protect you because you killed the person accidentally and not out of anger. 6 »You may stay in the city until you have received a public trial and until the death of the man who is then the High Priest. Then you may go back home to your own town, from which you had run away.« 7 So, on the west side of the Jordan River they set aside Kedesh in Galilee, in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem, in the hill country of Ephraim and Hebron, in the hill country of Judah. 8 East of the Jordan, on the desert plateau east of Jericho, they chose Bezer in the territory of Reuben; Ramoth in Gilead, in the territory of Gad; and Golan in Bashan, in the territory of Manasseh. 9 These were the cities of refuge chosen for all the people of Israel and for any foreigner living among them. Any who killed a person accidentally could find protection there from the one looking for revenge. They could not be killed unless they had first received a public trial.
ISV(i) 1 The Cities of Refuge
Then the LORD told Joshua, 2 “Tell the people of Israel to set apart cities of refuge about which I spoke to you through Moses, 3 so that anyone who kills a person unintentionally and without premeditation may run there and be protected from closely related avengers. 4 He may run to one of those cities, stand at the entrance to the city gate, and tell his side of the story to the elders of the city. They are to bring him inside the city with them and provide him a place to live among them. 5 Now if the closely related avenger pursues him, then they are not to hand the killer over to him, because he killed his neighbor without premeditation and without hating him beforehand. 6 He is to live in that city until he stands trial before the community, until the death of the one who is high priest at that time. Then the killer may return to his own city and to his own home, that is, to the city from which he fled.”
7 So they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba (also known as Hebron) in the hill country of Judah. 8 East of Jericho beyond the Jordan River, they reserved Bezer in the wilderness on the plain from the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead from the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan from the tribe of Manasseh. 9 These were appointed to be cities for all the Israelis and for the foreigner who lives among them, so that whoever kills anyone unintentionally may run there and not die at the hands of a closely related avenger until he stands for trial before the community.
LEB(i) 1 And Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying, 2 "Speak to the Israelites,* saying, 'Appoint for yourselves cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you through the hand of Moses. 3 Anyone who kills a person by accident or unintentionally* may flee there; they will be for yourselves a refuge from the avenger of blood. 4 The killer will flee to one of these cities, stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and state his case to the elders of that city;* and they will take him* into the city and give him a place, and he will dwell among them. 5 And if the avenger of blood pursues after him, they will not hand over the killer into his hand, because he killed his neighbor unintentionally, and he did not hate him previously.* 6 The killer will stay in that city until he stands before the congregation for the trial, until the death of the one who is the high priest in those days. Then the killer will return* to his city and to his house, to the city from which he fled.'" 7 So they set apart* Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath Arba* (that is, Hebron) in the hill country of Judah. 8 Beyond the Jordan east of Jericho, they appointed Bezer in the wilderness on the plateau, from the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead, from the tribe of Gad, and Golan in the Bashan, from the tribe of Manasseh. 9 These were the cities designated for all the Israelites,* and for the foreigners* dwelling among them, for anyone that kills a person unintentionally to flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until there is a trial* before the congregation.
BSB(i) 1 Then the LORD said to Joshua, 2 “Tell the Israelites to designate the cities of refuge, as I instructed you through Moses, 3 so that anyone who kills another unintentionally or accidentally may flee there. These will be your refuge from the avenger of blood. 4 When someone flees to one of these cities, stands at the entrance of the city gate, and states his case before its elders, they are to bring him into the city and give him a place to live among them. 5 Now if the avenger of blood pursues him, they must not surrender the manslayer into his hand, because that man killed his neighbor accidentally without prior malice. 6 He is to stay in that city until he stands trial before the assembly and until the death of the high priest serving at that time. Then the manslayer may return to his own home in the city from which he fled.” 7 So they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) in the hill country of Judah. 8 And beyond the Jordan, east of Jericho, they designated Bezer on the wilderness plateau from the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead from the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan from the tribe of Manasseh. 9 These are the cities appointed for all the Israelites and foreigners among them, so that anyone who kills a person unintentionally may flee there and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood prior to standing trial before the assembly.
MSB(i) 1 Then the LORD said to Joshua, 2 “Tell the Israelites to designate the cities of refuge, as I instructed you through Moses, 3 so that anyone who kills another unintentionally or accidentally may flee there.
MLV(i) 1 And Jehovah spoke to Joshua, saying, 2 Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, Assign for you* the cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you* by Moses, 3 that the manslayer who kills any soul unwittingly and unawares may flee there. And they will be to you* for a refuge from the avenger of blood. 4 And he will flee to one of those cities and will stand at the entrance of the gate of the city and declare his case in the ears of the elders of that city. And they will take him into the city to them and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.
5 And if the avenger of blood pursues after him, then they will not deliver up the manslayer into his hand, because he killed* his neighbor unawares and did not hate him formerly. 6 And he will dwell in that city, until he stands before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the high priest who will be in those days. Then the manslayer will return and come to his own city and to his own house, to the city from where he fled.
7 And they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill-country of Naphtali and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim and Kiriath-arba (what is Hebron) in the hill-country of Judah. 8 And beyond the Jordan at Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness in the plain out of the tribe of Reuben and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.
9 These were the appointed cities for all the sons of Israel and for the stranger who travels among them, that whoever kills any soul unwittingly might flee there and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood until he stood before the congregation.
VIN(i) 1 Then the LORD said to Joshua, 2 "Tell the people of Israel, 'Set apart cities of refuge about which I spoke to you through Moses, 3 »anyone who kills someone accidentally and unintentionally may go there for a refuge from the avenger of blood. 4 The killer will flee to one of these cities, stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and state his case to the elders of that city; and they will take him into the city and give him a place, and he will dwell among them. 5 And if the avenger of blood pursues after him, they will not hand over the killer into his hand, because he killed his neighbor unintentionally, and he did not hate him previously. 6 He shall live in that city until he stands trial before the community, until the death of the one who is high priest at that time.
DarbyFR(i) 1

BKR(i) 1 I mluvil Hospodin k Jozue, řka: 2 Mluv k synům Izraelským, a rci jim:Oddejte z těch měst vašich města útočišťná, o nichž jsem mluvil vám skrze Mojžíše, 3 Aby tam utekl vražedlník, kterýž by zabil člověka nechtě a z nevědomí. I budou vám útočiště před přítelem zabitého. 4 A když by utekl do jednoho z těch měst, stane u vrat v bráně města, a oznámí starším města toho při svou; i přijmou ho do města k sobě, a dají mu místo, i bydliti bude u nich. 8 Před Jordánem pak proti Jerichu k východu oddělili Bozor, kteréž leží na poušti v rovině pokolení Rubenova, a Rámot v Galád z pokolení Gádova, a Golan v Bázan z pokolení Manassesova.

Haitian(i) 1 Seyè a pale ak Jozye, li di l' konsa: 2 -Pale ak moun pèp Izrayèl yo, di yo pou yo chwazi lavil kote moun ka jwenn pwoteksyon, jan mwen te bay Moyiz lòd pou yo fè a. 3 Lè yon moun touye yon moun san li pa fè espre, san li pa t' gen lide fè sa, li ka kouri al kache la pou yo ka pwoteje l' pou l' pa tonbe anba men moun k'ap chache l' pou yo tire revanj. 4 Moun k'ap chache pwoteksyon nan yonn nan lavil sa yo va kouri ale bò pòtay lavil la, l'a esplike chèf fanmi lavil la sa ki te rive l'. Lèfini, y'a kite l' antre nan lavil la. Y'a ba li yon kote pou l' rete nan mitan yo. 5 Si moun k'ap chache tire revanj yo rive jouk la deyè l', chèf fanmi lavil la p'ap renmèt yo nonm lan, paske se pa espre li te fè lè l' te touye moun menm ras ak li a. Li pa t' gen anyen avè l'. 6 L'a gen pou l' rete nan lavil la jouk la parèt devan tout pèp la pou yo jije l', jouk moun ki granprèt lè sa a va mouri. Se lè sa a nonm lan va gen dwa tounen lakay li, nan lavil li te kouri kite a. 7 Se konsa, moun yo pran lavil Kadès nan peyi Galile, nan mòn ki pou moun branch fanmi Neftali yo, lavil Sichèm nan mòn ki pou moun branch fanmi Efrayim yo ak lavil Kiriyat aba ki rele koulye a Ebwon, nan mòn ki pou moun branch fanmi Jida yo pou sèvi pwoteksyon. 8 Lòt bò larivyè Jouden an menm, nan platon ki anfas lavil Jeriko, bò solèy leve, yo chwazi twa lavil nan dezè a pou sa tou: Bezè nan zòn ki pou moun branch fanmi Woubenn yo, Ramòt-Galarad nan zòn ki pou moun branch fanmi Gad yo, ak Golan nan peyi Bazan an nan zòn ki pou moun branch fanmi Manase yo. 9 Men non lavil yo te chwazi pou bay pwoteksyon yo. Nenpòt moun nan pèp Izrayèl la osinon nan moun lòt nasyon k'ap viv nan mitan yo ki ta touye yon moun san fè espre, l'a gen dwa kouri al kache la pou yo ka pwoteje l' pou l' pa tonbe anba men moun ki fanmi pi pre moun li te touye a, anvan li parèt devan tout pèp la pou yo jije l'.
