Isaiah 37

KJV_Strongs(i)
H4428 And it came to pass, when king H2396 Hezekiah H8085 heard [H8800]   H7167 it, that he rent [H8799]   H899 his clothes H3680 , and covered [H8691]   H8242 himself with sackcloth H935 , and went [H8799]   H1004 into the house H3068 of the LORD.
H7971 And he sent [H8799]   H471 Eliakim H1004 , who was over the household H7644 , and Shebna H5608 the scribe [H8802]   H2205 , and the elders H3548 of the priests H3680 covered [H8693]   H8242 with sackcloth H3470 , unto Isaiah H5030 the prophet H1121 the son H531 of Amoz.
H559 And they said [H8799]   H559 unto him, Thus saith [H8804]   H2396 Hezekiah H3117 , This day H3117 is a day H6869 of trouble H8433 , and of rebuke H5007 , and of blasphemy H1121 : for the children H935 are come [H8804]   H4866 to the birth H3581 , and there is not strength H3205 to bring forth [H8800]  .
H3068 It may be the LORD H430 thy God H8085 will hear [H8799]   H1697 the words H7262 of Rabshakeh H4428 , whom the king H804 of Assyria H113 his master H7971 hath sent [H8804]   H2778 to reproach [H8763]   H2416 the living H430 God H3198 , and will reprove [H8689]   H1697 the words H3068 which the LORD H430 thy God H8085 hath heard [H8804]   H5375 : wherefore lift up [H8804]   H8605 thy prayer H7611 for the remnant H4672 that is left [H8737]  .
H5650 So the servants H4428 of king H2396 Hezekiah H935 came [H8799]   H3470 to Isaiah.
H3470 And Isaiah H559 said [H8799]   H559 unto them, Thus shall ye say [H8799]   H113 unto your master H559 , Thus saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H3372 , Be not afraid [H8799]   H6440 of H1697 the words H8085 that thou hast heard [H8804]   H5288 , wherewith the servants H4428 of the king H804 of Assyria H1442 have blasphemed [H8765]   me.
H5414 Behold, I will send [H8802]   H7307 a blast H8085 upon him, and he shall hear [H8804]   H8052 a rumour H7725 , and return [H8804]   H776 to his own land H5307 ; and I will cause him to fall [H8689]   H2719 by the sword H776 in his own land.
H7262 So Rabshakeh H7725 returned [H8799]   H4672 , and found [H8799]   H4428 the king H804 of Assyria H3898 warring [H8737]   H3841 against Libnah H8085 : for he had heard [H8804]   H5265 that he was departed [H8804]   H3923 from Lachish.
H8085 And he heard [H8799]   H559 say [H8800]   H8640 concerning Tirhakah H4428 king H3568 of Ethiopia H3318 , He is come forth [H8804]   H3898 to make war [H8736]   H8085 with thee. And when he heard [H8799]   H7971 it, he sent [H8799]   H4397 messengers H2396 to Hezekiah H559 , saying [H8800]  ,
H559 Thus shall ye speak [H8799]   H2396 to Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah H559 , saying [H8800]   H430 , Let not thy God H982 , in whom thou trustest [H8802]   H5377 , deceive [H8686]   H559 thee, saying [H8800]   H3389 , Jerusalem H5414 shall not be given [H8735]   H3027 into the hand H4428 of the king H804 of Assyria.
H8085 Behold, thou hast heard [H8804]   H4428 what the kings H804 of Assyria H6213 have done [H8804]   H776 to all lands H2763 by destroying them utterly [H8687]   H5337 ; and shalt thou be delivered [H8735]  ?
H430 Have the gods H1471 of the nations H5337 delivered [H8689]   H1 them which my fathers H7843 have destroyed [H8689]   H1470 , as Gozan H2771 , and Haran H7530 , and Rezeph H1121 , and the children H5729 of Eden H8515 which were in Telassar?
H4428 Where is the king H2574 of Hamath H4428 , and the king H774 of Arphad H4428 , and the king H5892 of the city H5617 of Sepharvaim H2012 , Hena H5755 , and Ivah?
H2396 And Hezekiah H3947 received [H8799]   H5612 the letter H3027 from the hand H4397 of the messengers H7121 , and read [H8799]   H2396 it: and Hezekiah H5927 went up [H8799]   H1004 unto the house H3068 of the LORD H6566 , and spread [H8799]   H6440 it before H3068 the LORD.
H2396 And Hezekiah H6419 prayed [H8691]   H3068 unto the LORD H559 , saying [H8800]  ,
H3068 O LORD H6635 of hosts H430 , God H3478 of Israel H3427 , that dwellest [H8802]   H3742 between the cherubims H430 , thou art the God H4467 , even thou alone, of all the kingdoms H776 of the earth H6213 : thou hast made [H8804]   H8064 heaven H776 and earth.
H5186 Incline [H8685]   H241 thine ear H3068 , O LORD H8085 , and hear [H8798]   H6491 ; open [H8798]   H5869 thine eyes H3068 , O LORD H7200 , and see [H8798]   H8085 : and hear [H8798]   H1697 all the words H5576 of Sennacherib H7971 , which hath sent [H8804]   H2778 to reproach [H8763]   H2416 the living H430 God.
H551 Of a truth H3068 , LORD H4428 , the kings H804 of Assyria H2717 have laid waste [H8689]   H776 all the nations H776 , and their countries,
H5414 And have cast [H8800]   H430 their gods H784 into the fire H430 : for they were no gods H4639 , but the work H120 of men's H3027 hands H6086 , wood H68 and stone H6 : therefore they have destroyed [H8762]   them.
H3068 Now therefore, O LORD H430 our God H3467 , save [H8685]   H3027 us from his hand H4467 , that all the kingdoms H776 of the earth H3045 may know [H8799]   H3068 that thou art the LORD, even thou only.
H3470 Then Isaiah H1121 the son H531 of Amoz H7971 sent [H8799]   H2396 unto Hezekiah H559 , saying [H8800]   H559 , Thus saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel H6419 , Whereas thou hast prayed [H8694]   H5576 to me against Sennacherib H4428 king H804 of Assyria:
H1697 This is the word H3068 which the LORD H1696 hath spoken [H8765]   H1330 concerning him; The virgin H1323 , the daughter H6726 of Zion H959 , hath despised [H8804]   H3932 thee, and laughed thee to scorn; [H8804]   H1323 the daughter H3389 of Jerusalem H5128 hath shaken [H8689]   H7218 her head H310 at thee.
H2778 Whom hast thou reproached [H8765]   H1442 and blasphemed [H8765]   H7311 ? and against whom hast thou exalted [H8689]   H6963 thy voice H5375 , and lifted up [H8799]   H5869 thine eyes H4791 on high H6918 ? even against the Holy One H3478 of Israel.
H3027 By H5650 thy servants H2778 hast thou reproached [H8765]   H136 the Lord H559 , and hast said [H8799]   H7230 , By the multitude H7393 of my chariots H5927 am I come up [H8804]   H4791 to the height H2022 of the mountains H3411 , to the sides H3844 of Lebanon H3772 ; and I will cut down [H8799]   H6967 the tall H730 cedars H4005 thereof, and the choice H1265 fir trees H935 thereof: and I will enter [H8799]   H4791 into the height H7093 of his border H3293 , and the forest H3760 of his Carmel.
H6979 I have digged [H8804]   H8354 , and drunk [H8804]   H4325 water H3709 ; and with the sole H6471 of my feet H2717 have I dried up [H8686]   H2975 all the rivers H4693 of the besieged places.
H8085 Hast thou not heard [H8804]   H7350 long ago H6213 , how I have done [H8804]   H6924 it; and of ancient H3117 times H3335 , that I have formed [H8804]   H935 it? now have I brought [H8689]   H7582 it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste [H8687]   H1219 defenced [H8803]   H5892 cities H5327 into ruinous [H8737]   H1530 heaps.
H3427 Therefore their inhabitants [H8802]   H7116 were of small H3027 power H2865 , they were dismayed [H8804]   H954 and confounded [H8804]   H6212 : they were as the grass H7704 of the field H3419 , and as the green H1877 herb H2682 , as the grass H1406 on the housetops H7709 , and as corn blasted H6440 before H7054 it be grown up.
H3045 But I know [H8804]   H3427 thy abode [H8800]   H3318 , and thy going out [H8800]   H935 , and thy coming in [H8800]   H7264 , and thy rage [H8692]   against me.
H7264 Because thy rage [H8692]   H7600 against me, and thy tumult H5927 , is come up [H8804]   H241 into mine ears H7760 , therefore will I put [H8804]   H2397 my hook H639 in thy nose H4964 , and my bridle H8193 in thy lips H7725 , and I will turn thee back [H8689]   H1870 by the way H935 by which thou camest [H8804]  .
H226 And this shall be a sign H398 unto thee, Ye shall eat [H8800]   H8141 this year H5599 such as groweth H8145 of itself; and the second H8141 year H7823 that which springeth H7992 of the same: and in the third H8141 year H2232 sow [H8798]   H7114 ye, and reap [H8798]   H5193 , and plant [H8798]   H3754 vineyards H398 , and eat [H8798]   H6529 the fruit thereof.
H7604 And the remnant [H8737]   H6413 that is escaped H1004 of the house H3063 of Judah H3254 shall again [H8804]   H8328 take root H4295 downward H6213 , and bear [H8804]   H6529 fruit H4605 upward:
H3389 For out of Jerusalem H3318 shall go forth [H8799]   H7611 a remnant H6413 , and they that escape H2022 out of mount H6726 Zion H7068 : the zeal H3068 of the LORD H6635 of hosts H6213 shall do [H8799]   this.
H559 Therefore thus saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H4428 concerning the king H804 of Assyria H935 , He shall not come [H8799]   H5892 into this city H3384 , nor shoot [H8686]   H2671 an arrow H6923 there, nor come before [H8762]   H4043 it with shields H8210 , nor cast [H8799]   H5550 a bank against it.
H1870 By the way H935 that he came [H8804]   H7725 , by the same shall he return [H8799]   H935 , and shall not come [H8799]   H5892 into this city H5002 , saith [H8803]   H3068 the LORD.
H1598 For I will defend [H8804]   H5892 this city H3467 to save [H8687]   H5650 it for mine own sake, and for my servant H1732 David's sake.
H4397 Then the angel H3068 of the LORD H3318 went forth [H8799]   H5221 , and smote [H8686]   H4264 in the camp H804 of the Assyrians H3967 a hundred H8084 and fourscore H2568 and five H505 thousand H7925 : and when they arose early [H8686]   H1242 in the morning H4191 , behold, they were all dead [H8801]   H6297 corpses.
H5576 So Sennacherib H4428 king H804 of Assyria H5265 departed [H8799]   H3212 , and went [H8799]   H7725 and returned [H8799]   H3427 , and dwelt [H8799]   H5210 at Nineveh.
H7812 And it came to pass, as he was worshipping [H8693]   H1004 in the house H5268 of Nisroch H430 his god H152 , that Adrammelech H8272 and Sharezer H1121 his sons H5221 smote [H8689]   H2719 him with the sword H4422 ; and they escaped [H8738]   H776 into the land H780 of Armenia H634 : and Esarhaddon H1121 his son H4427 reigned [H8799]   in his stead.
ERV(i) 1 And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD. 2 And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz. 3 And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of contumely: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth. 4 It may be the LORD thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will rebuke the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is left. 5 So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah. 6 And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king Assyria have blasphemed me. 7 Behold, I will put a spirit in him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return unto his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land. 8 So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish. 9 And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come out to fight against thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying, 10 Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. 11 Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be delivered? 12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Telassar? 13 Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? 14 And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD. 15 And Hezekiah prayed unto the LORD, saying, 16 O LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, that sittest upon the cherubim, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth. 17 Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God. 18 Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the countries, and their land, 19 and have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them. 20 Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only. 21 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, 22 this is the word which the LORD hath spoken concerning him: The virgin daughter of Zion hath despised thee and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee. 23 Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice and lifted up thine eyes on high? [even] against the Holy One of Israel. 24 By thy servants hast thou reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into his farthest height, the forest of his fruitful field. 25 I have digged and drunk water, and with the sole of my feet will I dry up all the rivers of Egypt. 26 Hast thou not heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heaps. 27 Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as a field [of corn] before it be grown up. 28 But I know thy sitting down, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy raging against me. 29 Because of thy raging against me, and for that thine arrogancy is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest. 30 And this shall be the sign unto thee: ye shall eat this year that which groweth of itself, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof. 31 And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward. 32 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and out of mount Zion they that shall escape: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall perform this. 33 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come unto this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither shall he come before it with shield, nor cast a mount against it. 34 By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and he shall not come unto this city, saith the LORD. 35 For I will defend this city to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake. 36 And the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when men arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. 37 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. 38 And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead.
