H1121 And the sons H5030 of the prophets H559 said [H8799]   H6440 unto H477 Elisha H4725 , Behold now, the place H3427 where we dwell [H8802]   H6862 with thee is too strait for us.
H3212 Let us go [H8799]   H3383 , we pray thee, unto Jordan H3947 , and take [H8799]   H376 thence every man H259 a H6982 beam H6213 , and let us make [H8799]   H4725 us a place H3427 there, where we may dwell [H8800]   H559 . And he answered [H8799]   H3212 , Go [H8798]   ye.
H259 And one H559 said [H8799]   H2974 , Be content [H8685]   H3212 , I pray thee, and go [H8798]   H5650 with thy servants H559 . And he answered [H8799]   H3212 , I will go [H8799]  .
H3212 So he went [H8799]   H935 with them. And when they came [H8799]   H3383 to Jordan H1504 , they cut down [H8799]   H6086 wood.
H259 But as one H5307 was felling [H8688]   H6982 a beam H1270 , the axe head H5307 fell [H8804]   H4325 into the water H6817 : and he cried [H8799]   H559 , and said [H8799]   H162 , Alas H113 , master H7592 ! for it was borrowed [H8803]  .
H376 And the man H430 of God H559 said [H8799]   H575 , Where H5307 fell [H8804]   H7200 it? And he shewed [H8686]   H4725 him the place H7094 . And he cut down [H8799]   H6086 a stick H7993 , and cast [H8686]   H1270 it in thither; and the iron H6687 did swim [H8686]  .
H559 Therefore said [H8799]   H7311 he, Take it up [H8685]   H7971 to thee. And he put out [H8799]   H3027 his hand H3947 , and took [H8799]   it.
H4428 Then the king H758 of Syria H3898 warred [H8737]   H3478 against Israel H3289 , and took counsel [H8735]   H5650 with his servants H559 , saying [H8800]   H6423 , In such H492 and such H4725 a place H8466 shall be my camp.
H376 And the man H430 of God H7971 sent [H8799]   H4428 unto the king H3478 of Israel H559 , saying [H8800]   H8104 , Beware [H8734]   H5674 that thou pass [H8800]   H2088 not such H4725 a place H758 ; for thither the Syrians H5185 are come down.
H4428 And the king H3478 of Israel H7971 sent [H8799]   H4725 to the place H376 which the man H430 of God H559 told [H8804]   H2094 him and warned [H8689]   H8104 him of, and saved [H8738]   H259 himself there, not once H8147 nor twice.
H3820 Therefore the heart H4428 of the king H758 of Syria H5590 was sore troubled [H8735]   H1697 for this thing H7121 ; and he called [H8799]   H5650 his servants H559 , and said [H8799]   H5046 unto them, Will ye not shew [H8686]   H4428 me which of us is for the king H3478 of Israel?
H259 And one H5650 of his servants H559 said [H8799]   H113 , None, my lord H4428 , O king H477 : but Elisha H5030 , the prophet H3478 that is in Israel H5046 , telleth [H8686]   H4428 the king H3478 of Israel H1697 the words H1696 that thou speakest [H8762]   H2315 in thy bedchamber H4904  .
H559 And he said [H8799]   H3212 , Go [H8798]   H7200 and spy [H8798]   H351 where H7971 he is, that I may send [H8799]   H3947 and fetch [H8799]   H5046 him. And it was told [H8714]   H559 him, saying [H8800]   H1886 , Behold, he is in Dothan.
H7971 Therefore sent [H8799]   H5483 he thither horses H7393 , and chariots H3515 , and a great H2428 host H935 : and they came [H8799]   H3915 by night H5362 , and compassed H5892 the city H5362 about [H8686]  .
H8334 And when the servant [H8764]   H376 of the man H430 of God H6965 was risen [H8800]   H7925 early [H8686]   H3318 , and gone forth [H8799]   H2428 , behold, an host H5437 compassed [H8802]   H5892 the city H5483 both with horses H7393 and chariots H5288 . And his servant H559 said [H8799]   H162 unto him, Alas H113 , my master H6213 ! how shall we do [H8799]  ?
H559 And he answered [H8799]   H3372 , Fear [H8799]   H7227 not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
H477 And Elisha H6419 prayed [H8691]   H559 , and said [H8799]   H3068 , LORD H6491 , I pray thee, open [H8798]   H5869 his eyes H7200 , that he may see [H8799]   H3068 . And the LORD H6491 opened [H8799]   H5869 the eyes H5288 of the young man H7200 ; and he saw [H8799]   H2022 : and, behold, the mountain H4390 was full [H8804]   H5483 of horses H7393 and chariots H784 of fire H5439 round about H477 Elisha.
H3381 And when they came down [H8799]   H477 to him, Elisha H6419 prayed [H8691]   H3068 unto the LORD H559 , and said [H8799]   H5221 , Smite [H8685]   H1471 this people H5575 , I pray thee, with blindness H5221 . And he smote [H8686]   H5575 them with blindness H1697 according to the word H477 of Elisha.
H477 And Elisha H559 said [H8799]   H1870 unto them, This is not the way H2090 , neither is this H5892 the city H3212 : follow [H8798]   H310   H3212 me, and I will bring [H8686]   H376 you to the man H1245 whom ye seek [H8762]   H3212 . But he led [H8686]   H8111 them to Samaria.
H935 And it came to pass, when they were come [H8800]   H8111 into Samaria H477 , that Elisha H559 said [H8799]   H3068 , LORD H6491 , open [H8798]   H5869 the eyes H7200 of these men, that they may see [H8799]   H3068 . And the LORD H6491 opened [H8799]   H5869 their eyes H7200 , and they saw [H8799]   H8432 ; and, behold, they were in the midst H8111 of Samaria.
H4428 And the king H3478 of Israel H559 said [H8799]   H477 unto Elisha H7200 , when he saw [H8800]   H1 them, My father H5221 , shall I smite [H8686]   H5221 them ? shall I smite [H8686]   them ?
H559 And he answered [H8799]   H5221 , Thou shalt not smite [H8686]   H5221 them : wouldest thou smite [H8688]   H7617 those whom thou hast taken captive [H8804]   H2719 with thy sword H7198 and with thy bow H7760 ? set [H8798]   H3899 bread H4325 and water H6440 before H398 them, that they may eat [H8799]   H8354 and drink [H8799]   H3212 , and go [H8799]   H113 to their master.
H3739 And he prepared [H8799]   H1419 great H3740 provision H398 for them: and when they had eaten [H8799]   H8354 and drunk [H8799]   H7971 , he sent them away [H8762]   H3212 , and they went [H8799]   H113 to their master H1416 . So the bands H758 of Syria H935 came [H8800]   H3254 no more [H8804]   H776 into the land H3478 of Israel.
H310 And it came to pass after this H1130 , that Benhadad H4428 king H758 of Syria H6908 gathered [H8799]   H4264 all his host H5927 , and went up [H8799]   H6696 , and besieged [H8799]   H8111 Samaria.
H1419 And there was a great H7458 famine H8111 in Samaria H6696 : and, behold, they besieged [H8802]   H2543 it, until an ass's H7218 head H8084 was sold for fourscore H3701 pieces of silver H7255 , and the fourth part H6894 of a cab H1686 of dove's dung [H8675]   H3123   H2755   H2568 for five H3701 pieces of silver.
H4428 And as the king H3478 of Israel H5674 was passing by [H8802]   H2346 upon the wall H6817 , there cried [H8804]   H802 a woman H559 unto him, saying [H8800]   H3467 , Help [H8685]   H113 , my lord H4428 , O king.
H559 And he said [H8799]   H3068 , If the LORD H3467 do not help [H8686]   H370 thee, whence H3467 shall I help [H8686]   H1637 thee? out of the barnfloor H3342 , or out of the winepress?
H4428 And the king H559 said [H8799]   H559 unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered [H8799]   H802 , This woman H559 said [H8804]   H5414 unto me, Give [H8798]   H1121 thy son H398 , that we may eat [H8799]   H3117 him to day H398 , and we will eat [H8799]   H1121 my son H4279 to morrow.
H1310 So we boiled [H8762]   H1121 my son H398 , and did eat [H8799]   H559 him: and I said [H8799]   H312 unto her on the next H3117 day H5414 , Give [H8798]   H1121 thy son H398 , that we may eat [H8799]   H2244 him: and she hath hid [H8686]   H1121 her son.
H4428 And it came to pass, when the king H8085 heard [H8800]   H1697 the words H802 of the woman H7167 , that he rent [H8799]   H899 his clothes H5674 ; and he passed by [H8802]   H2346 upon the wall H5971 , and the people H7200 looked [H8799]   H8242 , and, behold, he had sackcloth H1004 within H1320 upon his flesh.
H559 Then he said [H8799]   H430 , God H6213 do [H8799]   H3254 so and more [H8686]   H7218 also to me, if the head H477 of Elisha H1121 the son H8202 of Shaphat H5975 shall stand [H8799]   H3117 on him this day.
H477 But Elisha H3427 sat [H8802]   H1004 in his house H2205 , and the elders H3427 sat [H8802]   H7971 with him; and the king sent [H8799]   H376 a man H6440 from before H4397 him: but ere the messenger H935 came [H8799]   H559 to him, he said [H8804]   H2205 to the elders H7200 , See [H8804]   H1121 ye how this son H7523 of a murderer [H8764]   H7971 hath sent [H8804]   H5493 to take away [H8687]   H7218 mine head H7200 ? look [H8798]   H4397 , when the messenger H935 cometh [H8800]   H5462 , shut [H8798]   H1817 the door H3905 , and hold him fast [H8804]   H1817 at the door H6963 : is not the sound H113 of his master's H7272 feet H310 behind him?
H1696 And while he yet talked [H8764]   H4397 with them, behold, the messenger H3381 came down [H8802]   H559 unto him: and he said [H8799]   H7451 , Behold, this evil H3068 is of the LORD H3176 ; what should I wait [H8686]   H3068 for the LORD any longer?
ERV(i) 1 And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell before thee is too strait for us. 2 Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye. 3 And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go. 4 So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood. 5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe-head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, my master! for it was borrowed. 6 And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither, and made the iron to swim. 7 And he said, Take it up to thee. So he put out his hand, and took it. 8 Now the king of Syria warred against Israel; and he took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp. 9 And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are coming down. 10 And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of; and he saved himself there, not once nor twice. 11 And the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel? 12 And one of his servants said, Nay, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber. 13 And he said, Go and see where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan. 14 Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about. 15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host with horses and chariots was round about the city. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? 16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. 18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha. 19 And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. And he led them to Samaria. 20 And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria. 21 And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father; shall I smite them? shall I smite them? 22 And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master. 23 And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. And the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel. 24 And it came to pass after this, that Ben-hadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria. 25 And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass’s head was sold for fourscore [pieces] of silver, and the fourth part of a kab of dove’s dung for five [pieces] of silver. 26 And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king. 27 And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the threshing-floor, or out of the winepress? 28 And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow. 29 So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son. 30 And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; (now he was passing by upon the wall;) and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh. 31 Then he said, God do so to me, and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day. 32 But Elisha sat in his house; and the elders sat with him; and [the king] sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold the door fast against him: is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him.? 33 And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; why should I wait for the LORD any longer?
