2 Kings 18:1-37 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel , that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign .

2 H6242 Twenty H2568 and five H8141 years H1121 old H4427 was he when he began to reign [H8800] H4427 ; and he reigned [H8804] H6242 twenty H8672 and nine H8141 years H3389 in Jerusalem H517 . His mother's H8034 name H21 also was Abi H1323 , the daughter H2148 of Zachariah.

3 H6213 And he did [H8799] H3477 that which was right H5869 in the sight H3068 of the LORD H1732 , according to all that David H1 his father H6213 did [H8804] .

4 H5493 He removed [H8689] H1116 the high places H7665 , and brake [H8765] H4676 the images H3772 , and cut down [H8804] H842 the groves H3807 , and brake in pieces [H8765] H5178 the brasen H5175 serpent H4872 that Moses H6213 had made [H8804] H3117 : for unto those days H1121 the children H3478 of Israel H6999 did burn incense [H8764] H7121 to it: and he called [H8799] H5180 it Nehushtan.

5 H982 He trusted [H8804] H3068 in the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel H310 ; so that after H4428 him was none like him among all the kings H3063 of Judah H6440 , nor any that were before him.

6 H1692 For he clave [H8799] H3068 to the LORD H5493 , and departed [H8804] H310 not from following H8104 him, but kept [H8799] H4687 his commandments H3068 , which the LORD H6680 commanded [H8765] H4872 Moses.

7 H3068 And the LORD H7919 was with him; and he prospered [H8686] H3318 whithersoever he went forth [H8799] H4775 : and he rebelled [H8799] H4428 against the king H804 of Assyria H5647 , and served [H8804] him not.

8 H5221 He smote [H8689] H6430 the Philistines H5804 , even unto Gaza H1366 , and the borders H4026 thereof, from the tower H5341 of the watchmen [H8802] H4013 to the fenced H5892 city.

9 H7243 And it came to pass in the fourth H8141 year H4428 of king H2396 Hezekiah H7637 , which was the seventh H8141 year H1954 of Hoshea H1121 son H425 of Elah H4428 king H3478 of Israel H8022 , that Shalmaneser H4428 king H804 of Assyria H5927 came up [H8804] H8111 against Samaria H6696 , and besieged [H8799] it.

10 H7097 And at the end H7969 of three H8141 years H3920 they took [H8799] H8337 it: even in the sixth H8141 year H2396 of Hezekiah H8672 , that is the ninth H8141 year H1954 of Hoshea H4428 king H3478 of Israel H8111 , Samaria H3920 was taken [H8738] .

11 H4428 And the king H804 of Assyria H1540 did carry away [H8686] H3478 Israel H804 unto Assyria H5148 , and put [H8686] H2477 them in Halah H2249 and in Habor H5104 by the river H1470 of Gozan H5892 , and in the cities H4074 of the Medes:

12 H8085 Because they obeyed [H8804] H6963 not the voice H3068 of the LORD H430 their God H5674 , but transgressed [H8799] H1285 his covenant H4872 , and all that Moses H5650 the servant H3068 of the LORD H6680 commanded [H8765] H8085 , and would not hear [H8804] H6213 them, nor do [H8804] them .

13 H702 Now in the fourteenth H6240 H8141 year H4428 of king H2396 Hezekiah H5576 did Sennacherib H4428 king H804 of Assyria H5927 come up [H8804] H1219 against all the fenced [H8803] H5892 cities H3063 of Judah H8610 , and took [H8799] them.

14 H2396 And Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah H7971 sent [H8799] H4428 to the king H804 of Assyria H3923 to Lachish H559 , saying [H8800] H2398 , I have offended [H8804] H7725 ; return [H8798] H5414 from me: that which thou puttest [H8799] H5375 on me will I bear [H8799] H4428 . And the king H804 of Assyria H7760 appointed [H8799] H2396 unto Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah H7969 three H3967 hundred H3603 talents H3701 of silver H7970 and thirty H3603 talents H2091 of gold.

15 H2396 And Hezekiah H5414 gave [H8799] H3701 him all the silver H4672 that was found [H8737] H1004 in the house H3068 of the LORD H214 , and in the treasures H4428 of the king's H1004 house.

16 H6256 At that time H2396 did Hezekiah H7112 cut off [H8765] H1817 the gold from the doors H1964 of the temple H3068 of the LORD H547 , and from the pillars H2396 which Hezekiah H4428 king H3063 of Judah H6823 had overlaid [H8765] H5414 , and gave [H8799] H4428 it to the king H804 of Assyria.

17 H4428 And the king H804 of Assyria H7971 sent [H8799] H8661 Tartan H7249 and Rabsaris H7262 and Rabshakeh H3923 from Lachish H4428 to king H2396 Hezekiah H3515 with a great H2426 host H3389 against Jerusalem H5927 . And they went up [H8799] H935 and came [H8799] H3389 to Jerusalem H5927 . And when they were come up [H8799] H935 , they came [H8799] H5975 and stood [H8799] H8585 by the conduit H5945 of the upper H1295 pool H4546 , which is in the highway H3526 of the fuller's [H8801] H7704 field.

18 H7121 And when they had called [H8799] H4428 to the king H3318 , there came out [H8799] H471 to them Eliakim H1121 the son H2518 of Hilkiah H1004 , which was over the household H7644 , and Shebna H5608 the scribe [H8802] H3098 , and Joah H1121 the son H623 of Asaph H2142 the recorder [H8688] .

19 H7262 And Rabshakeh H559 said [H8799] H559 unto them, Speak [H8798] H2396 ye now to Hezekiah H559 , Thus saith [H8804] H1419 the great H4428 king H4428 , the king H804 of Assyria H986 , What confidence H982 is this wherein thou trustest [H8804] ?

20 H559 Thou sayest [H8804] H8193 , (but they are but vain H1697 words H6098 ,) I have counsel H1369 and strength H4421 for the war H982 . Now on whom dost thou trust [H8804] H4775 , that thou rebellest [H8804] against me?

21 H982 Now, behold, thou trustest [H8804] H4938 upon the staff H7533 of this bruised [H8803] H7070 reed H4714 , even upon Egypt H376 , on which if a man H5564 lean [H8735] H935 , it will go [H8804] H3709 into his hand H5344 , and pierce [H8804] H6547 it: so is Pharaoh H4428 king H4714 of Egypt H982 unto all that trust [H8802] on him.

22 H559 But if ye say [H8799] H982 unto me, We trust [H8804] H3068 in the LORD H430 our God H1116 : is not that he, whose high places H4196 and whose altars H2396 Hezekiah H5493 hath taken away [H8689] H559 , and hath said [H8799] H3063 to Judah H3389 and Jerusalem H7812 , Ye shall worship [H8691] H6440 before H4196 this altar H3389 in Jerusalem?

23 H6148 Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges [H8690] H113 to my lord H4428 the king H804 of Assyria H5414 , and I will deliver [H8799] H505 thee two thousand H5483 horses H3201 , if thou be able [H8799] H5414 on thy part to set [H8800] H7392 riders [H8802] upon them.

24 H7725 How then wilt thou turn away [H8686] H6440 the face H259 of one H6346 captain H6996 of the least H113 of my master's H5650 servants H982 , and put thy trust [H8799] H4714 on Egypt H7393 for chariots H6571 and for horsemen?

25 H5927 Am I now come up [H8804] H1107 without H3068 the LORD H4725 against this place H7843 to destroy [H8687] H3068 it? The LORD H559 said [H8804] H5927 to me, Go up [H8798] H776 against this land H7843 , and destroy [H8685] it.

26 H559 Then said [H8799] H471 Eliakim H1121 the son H2518 of Hilkiah H7644 , and Shebna H3098 , and Joah H7262 , unto Rabshakeh H1696 , Speak [H8761] H5650 , I pray thee, to thy servants H762 in the Syrian language H8085 ; for we understand [H8802] H1696 it : and talk [H8762] H3066 not with us in the Jews' language H241 in the ears H5971 of the people H2346 that are on the wall.

27 H7262 But Rabshakeh H559 said [H8799] H113 unto them, Hath my master H7971 sent [H8804] H113 me to thy master H1696 , and to thee, to speak [H8763] H1697 these words H582 ? hath he not sent me to the men H3427 which sit [H8802] H2346 on the wall H398 , that they may eat [H8800] H6675 their own dung [H8675] H2755 H8354 , and drink [H8800] H4325 their own piss H7272 [H8675] H7890 with you?

28 H7262 Then Rabshakeh H5975 stood [H8799] H7121 and cried [H8799] H1419 with a loud H6963 voice H3066 in the Jews' language H1696 , and spake [H8762] H559 , saying [H8799] H8085 , Hear [H8798] H1697 the word H1419 of the great H4428 king H4428 , the king H804 of Assyria:

29 H559 Thus saith [H8804] H4428 the king H2396 , Let not Hezekiah H5377 deceive [H8686] H3201 you: for he shall not be able [H8799] H5337 to deliver [H8687] H3027 you out of his hand:

30 H2396 Neither let Hezekiah H982 make you trust [H8686] H3068 in the LORD H559 , saying [H8800] H3068 , The LORD H5337 will surely [H8687] H5337 deliver [H8686] H5892 us, and this city H5414 shall not be delivered [H8735] H3027 into the hand H4428 of the king H804 of Assyria.

31 H8085 Hearken [H8799] H2396 not to Hezekiah H559 : for thus saith [H8804] H4428 the king H804 of Assyria H6213 , Make [H8798] H1293 an agreement with me by a present H3318 , and come out [H8798] H398 to me, and then eat [H8798] H376 ye every man H1612 of his own vine H376 , and every one H8384 of his fig tree H8354 , and drink [H8798] H376 ye every one H4325 the waters H953 of his cistern:

32 H935 Until I come [H8800] H3947 and take you away [H8804] H776 to a land H776 like your own land H776 , a land H1715 of corn H8492 and wine H776 , a land H3899 of bread H3754 and vineyards H776 , a land H3323 of oil H2132 olive H1706 and of honey H2421 , that ye may live [H8798] H4191 , and not die [H8799] H8085 : and hearken [H8799] H2396 not unto Hezekiah H5496 , when he persuadeth [H8686] H559 you, saying [H8800] H3068 , The LORD H5337 will deliver [H8686] us.

33 H376 Hath any H430 of the gods H1471 of the nations H5337 delivered [H8689] H5337 at all [H8687] H776 his land H3027 out of the hand H4428 of the king H804 of Assyria?

34 H430 Where are the gods H2574 of Hamath H774 , and of Arpad H430 ? where are the gods H5617 of Sepharvaim H2012 , Hena H5755 , and Ivah H5337 ? have they delivered [H8689] H8111 Samaria H3027 out of mine hand?

35 H430 Who are they among all the gods H776 of the countries H5337 , that have delivered [H8689] H776 their country H3027 out of mine hand H3068 , that the LORD H5337 should deliver [H8686] H3389 Jerusalem H3027 out of mine hand?

36 H5971 But the people H2790 held their peace [H8689] H6030 , and answered [H8804] H1697 him not a word H4428 : for the king's H4687 commandment H559 was, saying [H8800] H6030 , Answer [H8799] him not.

37 H935 Then came [H8799] H471 Eliakim H1121 the son H2518 of Hilkiah H1004 , which was over the household H7644 , and Shebna H5608 the scribe [H8802] H3098 , and Joah H1121 the son H623 of Asaph H2142 the recorder [H8688] H2396 , to Hezekiah H899 with their clothes H7167 rent [H8803] H5046 , and told [H8686] H1697 him the words H7262 of Rabshakeh.
