Samuel 20

KJV_Strongs(i)
H1732 And David H1272 fled [H8799]   H5121 from Naioth H7414 in Ramah H935 , and came [H8799]   H559 and said [H8799]   H6440 before H3083 Jonathan H6213 , What have I done [H8804]   H5771 ? what is mine iniquity H2403 ? and what is my sin H6440 before H1 thy father H1245 , that he seeketh [H8764]   H5315 my life?
H559 And he said [H8799]   H2486 unto him, God forbid H4191 ; thou shalt not die [H8799]   H1 : behold, my father H6213 will do [H8799]   [H8675]   H6213   [H8804]   H1697 nothing H1419 either great H6996 or small H1540 , but that he will shew [H8799]   H241   H1 it me: and why should my father H5641 hide [H8686]   H1697 this thing from me? it is not so .
H1732 And David H7650 sware [H8735]   H559 moreover, and said [H8799]   H1 , Thy father H3045 certainly [H8800]   H3045 knoweth [H8804]   H4672 that I have found [H8804]   H2580 grace H5869 in thine eyes H559 ; and he saith [H8799]   H3083 , Let not Jonathan H3045 know [H8799]   H6087 this, lest he be grieved [H8735]   H199 : but truly H3068 as the LORD H2416 liveth H5315 , and as thy soul H2416 liveth H6587 , there is but a step H4194 between me and death.
H559 Then said [H8799]   H3083 Jonathan H1732 unto David H5315 , Whatsoever thy soul H559 desireth [H8799]   H6213 , I will even do [H8799]   it for thee.
H1732 And David H559 said [H8799]   H3083 unto Jonathan H4279 , Behold, to morrow H2320 is the new moon H3427 , and I should not fail [H8800]   H3427 to sit [H8799]   H4428 with the king H398 at meat [H8800]   H7971 : but let me go [H8765]   H5641 , that I may hide [H8738]   H7704 myself in the field H7992 unto the third H6153 day at even.
H1 If thy father H6485 at all [H8800]   H6485 miss [H8799]   H559 me, then say [H8804]   H1732 , David H7592 earnestly [H8736]   H7592 asked [H8738]   H7323 leave of me that he might run [H8800]   H1035 to Bethlehem H5892 his city H3117 : for there is a yearly H2077 sacrifice H4940 there for all the family.
H559 If he say [H8799]   H2896 thus, It is well H5650 ; thy servant H7965 shall have peace H2734 : but if he be very [H8800]   H2734 wroth [H8799]   H3045 , then be sure [H8798]   H7451 that evil H3615 is determined [H8804]   by him.
H6213 Therefore thou shalt deal [H8804]   H2617 kindly H5650 with thy servant H935 ; for thou hast brought [H8689]   H5650 thy servant H1285 into a covenant H3068 of the LORD H3426 with thee: notwithstanding, if there be H5771 in me iniquity H4191 , slay [H8685]   H935 me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring [H8686]   H1 me to thy father?
H3083 And Jonathan H559 said [H8799]   H2486 , Far be it from thee H3045 : for if I knew [H8799]   H3045 certainly [H8800]   H7451 that evil H3615 were determined [H8804]   H1 by my father H935 to come [H8800]   H5046 upon thee, then would not I tell [H8686]   it thee?
H559 Then said [H8799]   H1732 David H3083 to Jonathan H5046 , Who shall tell [H8686]   H1 me? or what if thy father H6030 answer [H8799]   H7186 thee roughly?
H3083 And Jonathan H559 said [H8799]   H1732 unto David H3212 , Come [H8798]   H3318 , and let us go out [H8799]   H7704 into the field H3318 . And they went out [H8799]   H8147 both H7704 of them into the field.
H3083 And Jonathan H559 said [H8799]   H1732 unto David H3068 , O LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel H2713 , when I have sounded [H8799]   H1 my father H4279 about to morrow H6256 any time H7992 , or the third H2895 day, and, behold, if there be good [H8804]   H1732 toward David H7971 , and I then send [H8799]   H1540 not unto thee, and shew [H8804]   H241   it thee;
H3068 The LORD H6213 do [H8799]   H3541 so H3254 and much more [H8686]   H3083 to Jonathan H3190 : but if it please [H8686]   H1 my father H7451 to do thee evil H1540 , then I will shew [H8804]   H241   H7971 it thee, and send thee away [H8765]   H1980 , that thou mayest go [H8804]   H7965 in peace H3068 : and the LORD H1 be with thee, as he hath been with my father.
H518 And thou shalt not only while yet H2416 I live H6213 shew [H8799]   H2617 me the kindness H3068 of the LORD H4191 , that I die [H8799]   not:
H3772 But also thou shalt not cut off [H8686]   H2617 thy kindness H1004 from my house H5704 for H5769 ever H3068 : no, not when the LORD H3772 hath cut off [H8687]   H341 the enemies [H8802]   H1732 of David H376 every one H6440 from the face H127 of the earth.
H3083 So Jonathan H3772 made [H8799]   H1004 a covenant with the house H1732 of David H3068 , saying, Let the LORD H1245 even require [H8765]   H3027 it at the hand H1732 of David's H341 enemies [H8802]  .
H3083 And Jonathan H1732 caused David H7650 to swear [H8687]   H3254 again [H8686]   H160 , because he loved H157 him: for he loved [H8804]   H160 him as he loved H5315 his own soul.
H3083 Then Jonathan H559 said [H8799]   H1732 to David H4279 , To morrow H2320 is the new moon H6485 : and thou shalt be missed [H8738]   H4186 , because thy seat H6485 will be empty [H8735]  .
H8027 And when thou hast stayed three days [H8765]   H3381 , then thou shalt go down [H8799]   H3966 quickly H935 , and come [H8804]   H4725 to the place H5641 where thou didst hide [H8738]   H3117 thyself when H4639 the business H3427 was in hand, and shalt remain [H8804]   H681 by H68 the stone H237 Ezel.
H3384 And I will shoot [H8686]   H7969 three H2671 arrows H6654 on the side H7971 thereof, as though I shot [H8763]   H4307 at a mark.
H7971 And, behold, I will send [H8799]   H5288 a lad H3212 , saying, Go [H8798]   H4672 , find out [H8798]   H2671 the arrows H559 . If I expressly [H8800]   H559 say [H8799]   H5288 unto the lad H2671 , Behold, the arrows H3947 are on this side of thee, take [H8798]   H935 them; then come [H8798]   H7965 thou: for there is peace H1697 to thee, and no hurt H3068 ; as the LORD H2416 liveth.
H559 But if I say [H8799]   H5958 thus unto the young man H2671 , Behold, the arrows H1973 are beyond H3212 thee; go thy way [H8798]   H3068 : for the LORD H7971 hath sent thee away [H8765]  .
H1697 And as touching the matter H1696 which thou and I have spoken [H8765]   H3068 of, behold, the LORD H5704 be between thee and me for H5769 ever.
H1732 So David H5641 hid [H8735]   H7704 himself in the field H2320 : and when the new moon H4428 was come, the king H3427 sat him down [H8799]   H398 to eat [H8800]   H3899 meat.
H4428 And the king H3427 sat [H8799]   H4186 upon his seat H6471 , as at other times H4186 , even upon a seat H7023 by the wall H3083 : and Jonathan H6965 arose [H8799]   H74 , and Abner H3427 sat [H8799]   H7586 by Saul's H6654 side H1732 , and David's H4725 place H6485 was empty [H8735]  .
H7586 Nevertheless Saul H1696 spake [H8765]   H3972 not any thing H3117 that day H559 : for he thought [H8804]   H4745 , Something hath befallen H1115 him, he is not H2889 clean H2889 ; surely he is not clean.
H4283 And it came to pass on the morrow H8145 , which was the second H2320 day of the month H1732 , that David's H4725 place H6485 was empty [H8735]   H7586 : and Saul H559 said [H8799]   H3083 unto Jonathan H1121 his son H935 , Wherefore cometh [H8804]   H1121 not the son H3448 of Jesse H3899 to meat H8543 , neither yesterday H3117 , nor to day?
H3083 And Jonathan H6030 answered [H8799]   H7586 Saul H1732 , David H7592 earnestly [H8736]   H7592 asked [H8738]   H5978 leave of me H1035 to go to Bethlehem:
H559 And he said [H8799]   H7971 , Let me go [H8761]   H4940 , I pray thee; for our family H2077 hath a sacrifice H5892 in the city H251 ; and my brother H6680 , he hath commanded [H8765]   H4672 me to be there : and now, if I have found [H8804]   H2580 favour H5869 in thine eyes H4422 , let me get away [H8735]   H7200 , I pray thee, and see [H8799]   H251 my brethren H935 . Therefore he cometh [H8804]   H4428 not unto the king's H7979 table.
H7586 Then Saul's H639 anger H2734 was kindled [H8799]   H3083 against Jonathan H559 , and he said [H8799]   H1121 unto him, Thou son H5753 of the perverse [H8737]   H4780 rebellious H3045 woman, do not I know [H8804]   H977 that thou hast chosen [H8802]   H1121 the son H3448 of Jesse H1322 to thine own confusion H1322 , and unto the confusion H517 of thy mother's H6172 nakedness?
H3117 For as long as H1121 the son H3448 of Jesse H2425 liveth [H8804]   H127 upon the ground H3559 , thou shalt not be established [H8735]   H4438 , nor thy kingdom H7971 . Wherefore now send [H8798]   H3947 and fetch [H8798]   H1121 him unto me, for he shall surely die H4194  .
H3083 And Jonathan H6030 answered [H8799]   H7586 Saul H1 his father H559 , and said [H8799]   H4191 unto him, Wherefore shall he be slain [H8714]   H6213 ? what hath he done [H8804]  ?
H7586 And Saul H2904 cast [H8686]   H2595 a javelin H5221 at him to smite [H8687]   H3083 him: whereby Jonathan H3045 knew [H8799]   H3617 that it was determined H1 of his father H4191 to slay [H8687]   H1732 David.
H3083 So Jonathan H6965 arose [H8799]   H7979 from the table H2750 in fierce H639 anger H398 , and did eat [H8804]   H3899 no meat H8145 the second H3117 day H2320 of the month H6087 : for he was grieved [H8738]   H1732 for David H1 , because his father H3637 had done him shame [H8689]  .
H1242 And it came to pass in the morning H3083 , that Jonathan H3318 went out [H8799]   H7704 into the field H4150 at the time appointed H1732 with David H6996 , and a little H5288 lad with him.
H559 And he said [H8799]   H5288 unto his lad H7323 , Run [H8798]   H4672 , find out [H8798]   H2671 now the arrows H3384 which I shoot [H8688]   H5288 . And as the lad H7323 ran [H8801]   H3384 , he shot [H8804]   H2678 an arrow H5674 beyond [H8687]   him.
H5288 And when the lad H935 was come [H8799]   H4725 to the place H2678 of the arrow H3083 which Jonathan H3384 had shot [H8804]   H3083 , Jonathan H7121 cried [H8799]   H310 after H5288 the lad H559 , and said [H8799]   H2678 , Is not the arrow H1973 beyond thee?
H3083 And Jonathan H7121 cried [H8799]   H310 after H5288 the lad H4120 , Make speed H2363 , haste [H8798]   H5975 , stay [H8799]   H3083 not. And Jonathan's H5288 lad H3950 gathered up [H8762]   H2671 the arrows [H8675]   H2678   H935 , and came [H8799]   H113 to his master.
H5288 But the lad H3045 knew [H8804]   H3972 not any thing H3083 : only Jonathan H1732 and David H3045 knew [H8804]   H1697 the matter.
H3083 And Jonathan H5414 gave [H8799]   H3627 his artillery H5288 unto his lad H559 , and said [H8799]   H3212 unto him, Go [H8798]   H935 , carry [H8685]   H5892 them to the city.
H5288 And as soon as the lad H935 was gone [H8802]   H1732 , David H6965 arose [H8804]   H681 out of a place toward H5045 the south H5307 , and fell [H8799]   H639 on his face H776 to the ground H7812 , and bowed [H8691]   H7969 himself three H6471 times H5401 : and they kissed [H8799]   H376 one H7453 another H1058 , and wept [H8799]   H376 one H7453 with another H1732 , until David H1431 exceeded [H8689]  .
H3083 And Jonathan H559 said [H8799]   H1732 to David H3212 , Go [H8798]   H7965 in peace H7650 , forasmuch as we have sworn [H8738]   H8147 both H8034 of us in the name H3068 of the LORD H559 , saying [H8800]   H3068 , The LORD H2233 be between me and thee, and between my seed H2233 and thy seed H5704 for H5769 ever H6965 . And he arose [H8799]   H3212 and departed [H8799]   H3083 : and Jonathan H935 went [H8802]   H5892 into the city.
ERV(i) 1 And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life? 2 And he said unto him, God forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my father doeth nothing either great or small, but that he discloseth it unto me: and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so. 3 And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father knoweth well that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death. 4 Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee. 5 And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even. 6 If thy father miss me at all, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Beth-lehem his city: for it is the yearly sacrifice there for all the family. 7 If he say thus, It is well; thy servant shall have peace: but if he be wroth, then know that evil is determined by him. 8 Therefore deal kindly with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of the LORD with thee: but if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father? 9 And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I should at all know that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee? 10 Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me if perchance thy father answer thee roughly? 11 And Jonathan said unto David, Come and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field. 12 And Jonathan said unto David, The LORD, the God of Israel, [be witness]; when I have sounded my father about this time tomorrow, [or] the third day, behold, if there be good toward David, shall I not then send unto thee, and disclose it unto thee? 13 The LORD do so to Jonathan, and more also, should it please my father to do thee evil, if I disclose it not unto thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my father. 14 And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of the LORD, that I die not: 15 but also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the LORD hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth. 16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, [saying], And the LORD shall require it at the hand of David’s enemies. 17 And Jonathan caused David to swear again, for the love that he had to him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul. 18 Then Jonathan said unto him, Tomorrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty. 19 And when thou hast stayed three days, thou shalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself when the business was in hand, and shalt remain by the stone Ezel. 20 And I will shoot three arrows on the side thereof, as though I shot at a mark. 21 And, behold, I will send the lad, [saying], Go, find the arrows. If I say unto the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee: take them, and come; for there is peace to thee and no hurt, as the LORD liveth. 22 But if I say thus unto the boy, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee: go thy way; for the LORD hath sent thee away. 23 And as touching the matter which thou and I have spoken of, behold, the LORD is between thee and me for ever. 24 So David hid himself in the field: and when the new moon was come, the king sat him down to eat meat. 25 And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, even upon the seat by the wall; and Jonathan stood up, and Abner sat by Saul’s side: but David’s place was empty. 26 Nevertheless Saul spake not any thing that day: for he thought, Something hath befallen him, he is not clean; surely he is not clean. 27 And it came to pass on the morrow after the new moon, [which was] the second [day], that David’s place was empty: and Saul said unto Jonathan his son, Wherefore cometh not the son of Jesse to meat, neither yesterday, nor today? 28 And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Beth-lehem: 29 and he said, Let me go, I pray thee; for our family hath a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he hath commanded me [to be there]: and now, if I have found favour in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he is not come unto the king’s table. 30 Then Saul’s anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of a perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own shame, and unto the shame of thy mother’s nakedness? 31 For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be stablished, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die. 32 And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore should he be put to death? what hath he done? 33 And Saul cast his spear at him to smite him: whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to put David to death. 34 So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no meat the second day of the month: for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame. 35 And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him. 36 And he said unto his lad, Run, find now the arrows which I shoot. And as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him. 37 And when the lad was come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the lad, and said, Is not the arrow beyond thee? 38 And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not. And Jonathan’s lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master. 39 But the lad knew not any thing: only Jonathan and David knew the matter. 40 And Jonathan gave his weapons unto his lad, and said unto him, Go, carry them to the city. 41 And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of [a place] toward the South, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded. 42 And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD shall be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed, for ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city.
