6 H4428 And king H7346 Rehoboam H3289 [H8735] consulted H2205 with the old men, H5975 [H8802] that stood H6440 at the face of H8010 Solomon H1 his father H2416 while he yet lived, H559 [H8800] and said, H3289 [H8737] How do ye advise H7725 [H8687] that I may H1697 answer H5971 this people?
7 H1696 [H8762] And they spoke H559 [H8800] to him, saying, H5650 If thou wilt be a servant H5971 to this people H3117 this day, H5647 [H8804] and wilt serve H6030 [H8804] them, and answer H1696 [H8765] them, and speak H2896 good H1697 words H5650 to them, then they will be thy servants H3117 for ever.
8 H5800 [H8799] But he forsook H6098 the counsel H2205 of the old men, H3289 [H8804] which they had given H3289 [H8735] him, and consulted H3206 with the young men H1431 [H8804] that had grown up H5975 [H8802] with him, and who stood H6440 at the face of him:
9 H559 [H8799] And he said H3289 [H8737] to them, What counsel give H7725 [H8686] ye that we may H1697 answer H5971 this people, H1696 [H8765] who have spoken H559 [H8800] to me, saying, H7043 0 Make H5923 the yoke H1 which thy father H5414 [H8804] did put H7043 [H8685] upon us lighter?
10 H3206 And the young men H1431 [H8804] that had grown up H1696 [H8762] with him spoke H559 [H8800] to him, saying, H559 [H8799] Thus shalt thou speak H5971 to this people H1696 [H8765] who spoke H559 [H8800] to thee, saying, H1 Thy father H3513 0 made H5923 our yoke H3513 [H8689] heavy, H7043 [H8685] but make thou it lighter H1696 [H8762] to us; thus shalt thou say H6995 to them, My little H5666 [H8804] finger shall be thicker H1 than my father's H4975 loins.
  11 H9002 And H6258 now H9020 though my H1 father H6006 [H8689] loaded H5921 upon H9036 you H3515 a heavy H5923 yoke, H589 I H3254 [H8686] will add H5921 to H9026 your H5923 yoke: H9020 my H1 father H3256 [H8765] hath chastised H9036 you H9003 with H7752 whips, H9002 but H589 I H3256 [H8762] will chastise H9036 you H9003 with H6137 scorpions.
  12 H3379 So Jeroboam H5971 and all the people H935 [H8799] came H7346 to Rehoboam H7992 the third H3117 day, H4428 as the king H1696 [H8765] had appointed, H559 [H8800] saying, H7725 [H8798] Come to me again H7992 the third H3117 day.
  13 H4428 And the king H6030 [H8799] answered H5971 the people H7186 roughly, H5800 [H8799] and forsook H2205 the old men's H6098 counsel H3289 [H8804] that they gave him;
  14 H1696 [H8762] And spoke H6098 to them after the counsel H3206 of the young men, H559 [H8800] saying, H1 My father H3513 0 made H5923 your yoke H3513 [H8689] heavy, H3254 [H8686] and I will add H5923 to your yoke: H1 my father H3256 [H8765] also chastised H7752 you with whips, H3256 [H8762] but I will chastise H6137 you with scorpions.
15 H4428 Therefore the king H8085 [H8804] hearkened H5971 not to the people; H5438 for the cause H3068 was from the LORD, H6965 [H8687] that he might raise H1697 his saying, H3068 which the LORD H1696 [H8765] spoke H3027 by H281 Ahijah H7888 the Shilonite H3379 to Jeroboam H1121 the son H5028 of Nebat.

Wycliffe(i) 6 And whanne the puple hadde go, kyng Roboam took counsel with the eldere men, that stoden bifor Salomon, his fadir, while he lyuyde yit; and Roboam seide, What counsel yyue ye to me, that Y answere to the puple? 7 Whiche seiden to hym, If thou obeiest to dai to this puple, and seruest this puple, and yyuest stide to her axyng, and spekist to hem liyte wordis, thei schulen be seruauntis to thee in alle daies. 8 Which Roboam forsook the counsel of elde men, which thei yauen to hym, and took yonge men, that weren nurschid with hym, and stoden nyy him; 9 and he seide to hem, What counsel yyue ye to me, that Y answere to this puple, that seiden to me, Make thou esyere the yok which thi fadir puttide on vs? 10 And the yonge men, that weren nurschid with hym, seiden to hym, Thus speke thou to this puple, that spaken to thee, and seiden, Thi fadir made greuouse oure yok, releeue thou vs; thus thou schalt speke to hem, My leest fyngur is grettere than the bak of my fader; 11 and now my fadir puttide on you a greuouse yok, forsothe Y schal adde on youre yok; my fadir beet you with scourgis, forsothe Y schal bete you with scorpiouns. 12 Therfor Jeroboam, and al the puple, cam to Roboam, in the thridde dai, as the kyng spak, seiynge, Turne ye ayen to me in the thridde dai. 13 And the kyng answeride harde thingis to the puple, while the counsel of eldere men was forsakun, which thei hadden youe to hym; 14 and he spak to hem bi the counsel of yonge men, and seide, My fadir made greuouse youre yok, forsothe Y schal adde to youre yok; my fadir beet you with scourgis, forsothe Y schal bete you with scorpiouns. 15 And the kyng assentide not to the puple, for the Lord hadde turned awey, `ether hadde wlatid hym, that the Lord schulde reise his word, which he hadde spoke in the hond of Ahias of Silo to Jeroboam, sone of Nabath.
Coverdale(i) 6 And Roboam the kynge helde a councell with the Elders that stode before Salomo his father whyle he lyued, & he sayde: What is youre councell, that we maye geue this people an answere? 7 They sayde vnto him: Yf thou do this people a pleasure to daye, and folowe their mynde, and heare them, and geue them good wordes, then shal they be obedient vnto the as longe as thou liuest. 8 Neuertheles he forsoke the councell that ye Elders had geuen him, and axed councell at the yonge men which were growne vp with him, and stode before him. 9 And he sayde vnto them: What is youre councell that we maye answere this people which haue sayde vnto me: Make the yock lighter, that thy father hath layed vpo vs. 10 And the yonge men that were growne vp with him, sayde vnto him: Where as the people haue sayde vnto the: Thy father hath made oure yock to sore, make thou it easyer for vs, Thus shalt thou saye vnto them: My litle fynger shall be thicker then my fathers loynes. 11 Now, my father layed a sore yock vpon you, but I wyl yet laye more theron: My father correcte you with scourges, but I wyl nourtoure you with scorpions. 12 So vpon the thyrde daye came Ieroboam with all the people vnto Roboam, as ye kynge had appoynted and saide, come to me agayne on the thyrde daye. 13 And the kynge gaue the people an harde rough answere, and forsoke the coucell that the Elders had geuen him, 14 and talked with them after the councell of the yonge men, and sayde: My father made youre yock sore, but I wyll make it yet sorer vpon you. My father correcte you with scourges, but I wil nourtoure you with scorpios. 15 Thus the kynge folowed not the peoples mynde, for he was turned so fro the LORDE, that he mighte stablish his worde which he spake by Ahias of Silo vnto Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.
MSTC(i) 6 And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that stood before Solomon his father, while he yet lived, and said, "What counsel give ye to answer this people withal?" 7 And they said unto him, "If thou shalt be a servant unto this people this day and serve them and answer them and speak kind words to them: they will be thy servants forever." 8 But he forsook the counsel that the old men had given him, and counselled with the young men that were nourished up with him and had waited on him. 9 And he said unto them, "What counsel give ye, to answer this people withal which have communed with me saying, 'Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us, lighter?'" 10 And the young men that were brought up with him, answered him, saying, "This people that have said unto thee, 'Thy father made our yoke heavy, make thou it us lighter' — thus answer them: 'My little finger shall be weightier than my father's loins! 11 And now, where my father put a grievous yoke upon you, I will make it heavier. For where my father corrected you with scourges, I will chastise you with scorpions." 12 And when Jeroboam and all the people were come to Rehoboam the third day — as the king appointed them, saying, "Come to me again this day three days" - 13 the king answered the people churlishly and left the advice that old men gave him: 14 and spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, "My father made your yoke grievous, but I will make it grievouser. For where my father chastised you with whips, I will chastise you with scorpions." 15 And so the king hearkened not unto the people: for the turning away was of the LORD, to perform his saying, which the LORD said by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
Matthew(i) 6 And kynge Rehoboam toke councell wyth the olde men that stode before Salomon hys father whyle he yet lyued, & sayd: what councell geue ye to aunswere thys people with al? 7 And they sayd vnto hym: If thou shalt be a seruaunt vnto this people this daye and serue them, & answere them, & speake kynd wordes to them: they wyll be thy seruauntes for euer. 8 But he lefte the councell that the olde men had geuen hym, & counceled with the young men that were nourished vp with him, & had waited on him. 9 And he sayd vnto them: what councel geue ye, to aunswere this people with all whiche haue communed wyth me, sayinge: make the youcke whiche thy father dyd put vpon vs, lighter? 10 And the young men that were brought vp wyth hym, aunswered hym, sayinge: thys people that haue sayde vnto the: thy father made our youcke heuye, make thou it vs lighter: thus aunswere them. My lytle fynger shalbe wayghtyer then my fathers loynes. 11 And nowe where my father put a greuouse youcke vpon you, I wyll make it heauyer. For where my father corrected you wt scourges, I wil chastyse you wt scorpions. 12 And when Ieroboam and all the people were come to Rehoboam the thyrde daye, as the kynge annoynted them, saying: come to me agayn this daye thre dayes: 13 the kynge aunswered the people churlyshlye, and lefte the aduise that olde men gaue hym: 14 and spake to them after the councell of the younge men, sayinge. My father made youre youcke greuouse, but I wyl make it greuouser. For where my father chastysed you with whyppes, I wyll chastyse you with scorpyons. 15 And so the kynge herkened not vnto the people: for the turnynge awaye was of the Lorde, to performe hys sayinge, which the Lorde sayde by Ahiah the Silonite vnto Ieroboam the sonne of Nabat.
Great(i) 6 And kynge Rehoboam toke councell with the olde men that stode before Salomon hys father, while he yet lyued, and sayde: what councell geue ye, that I maye haue matter to answere thys people? 7 And they sayde vnto hym: If thou be a seruaunt vnto thys people this daye, and folowe theyr myndes and answere them, and speake kynde wordes to them: they wyll be thy seruauntes for euer. 8 But he forsoke the councell that the olde men had geuen him, and called vnto hys councell yonge men, that were growen vp with him, and wayted on hym. 9 And he sayde vnto them: what councell geue ye, that we maye answere thys people? for they haue commoned with me, sayenge: make the yocke which thy father dyd putt vpon vs, lyghtter? 10 And the younge men that were growen vp with hym spake vnto hym sayenge: Thus shalt thou speake vnto thys people (that haue sayde vnto the: thy father made oure yocke heuye, butt make thou it vs lyghtter) Euen thus shalt thou saye vnto them: My lytle fynger shalbe wayghtier, then my father was in the loynes. 11 And nowe where as my father did lade you & put a greuouse yocke vpon you, I wyll make it heuyer. My father also corrected you wt scourges, but I wyll chastyse you with scorpions. 12 And so Ieroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the thyrde daye, as the kynge had apoynted, sayenge: come to me agayne the thyrde daye. 13 And the kyng answered the people churlyshly, and lefte the olde mens councell (that they gaue hym) 14 & spake to them after the councell of the younge men, sayenge. My father made youre yocke greuouse, and I will make it greuouser. DouayRheims(i) 6 King Roboam took counsel with the old men, that stood before Solomon, his father, while he yet lived, and he said: What counsel do you give me, that I may answer this people? 7 They said to him: If thou wilt yield to this people to day, and condescend to them, and grant their petition, and wilt speak gentle words to them, they will be thy servants always. 8 But he left the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that had been brought up with him, and stood before him. 9 And he said to them: What counsel do you give me, that I may answer this people, who have said to me: Make the yoke, which thy father put upon us, lighter? 10 And the young men that had been brought up with him, said: Thus shalt thou speak to this people, who have spoken to thee, saying: Thy father made our yoke heavy, do thou ease us. Thou shalt say to them: My little finger is thicker than the back of my father. 11 And now my father put a heavy yoke upon you, but I will add to your yoke: my father beat you with whips, but I will beat you with scorpions. 12 So Jeroboam, and all the people, came to Roboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying: Come to me again the third day. 13 And the king answered the people roughly, leaving the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, 14 And he spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying: My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke: My father beat you with whips, but I will beat you with scorpions. 15 And the king condescended not to the people: for the Lord was turned away from him, to make good his word, which he had spoken in the hand of Ahias, the Silonite, to Jeroboam, the son of Nabat.

  11 H1 And now though my father H6006 [H8689] burdened H3515 you with a heavy H5923 yoke H3254 [H8686] , I will add H5923 to your yoke H1 : my father H3256 [H8765] hath chastised H7752 you with whips H3256 [H8762] , but I will chastise H6137 you with scorpions.
  12 H3379 So Jeroboam H5971 and all the people H935 [H8799] came H7346 to Rehoboam H7992 the third H3117 day H4428 , as the king H1696 [H8765] had appointed H559 [H8800] , saying H7725 [H8798] , Come to me again H7992 the third H3117 day.

15 H4428 Therefore the king H8085 [H8804] hearkened H5971 not to the people H5438 ; for the cause H3068 was from the LORD H6965 [H8687] , that he might perform H1697 his saying H3068 , which the LORD H1696 [H8765] spoke H3027 by H281 Ahijah H7888 the Shilonite H3379 to Jeroboam H1121 the son H5028 of Nebat.

And what shall I answer to this people who speak to me, saying, Lighten somewhat of the yoke which thy father has put upon us? 10 And the young men who had been brought up with him, who stood before his face, spoke to him, saying, Thus shalt thou say to this people who have spoken to thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, and do thou now lighten it from off us: thus shalt say to them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins. 11 And whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I also will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 12 And all Israel came to king Roboam on the third day, as the king spoke to them, saying, Return to me on the third day. 13 And the king answered the people harshly; and Roboam forsook the counsel of the old men which they counselled him. 14 And he spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 15 And the king hearkened not to the people, because the change was from the Lord, that he might establish his word which he spoke by Achia the Selonite concerning Jeroboam the son of Nabat.

YLT(i) 6 And king Rehoboam consulteth with the elders who have been standing in the presence of Solomon his father, in his being alive, saying, `How are ye counselling to answer this people?' 7 And they speak unto him, saying, `If, to-day, thou art servant to this people, and hast served them, and answered them, and spoken unto them good words, then they have been to thee servants all the days.' 8 And he forsaketh the counsel of the elders which they counselled him, and consulteth with the lads who have grown up with him, who are standing before him; 9 and he saith unto them, `What are ye counselling, and we answer this people, who have spoken unto me, saying, Lighten somewhat of the yoke that thy father put upon us?' 10 And they speak unto him—the lads who had grown up with him—saying, `Thus dost thou say to this people who have spoken unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, and thou, make it light upon us; thus dost thou speak unto them, My little finger is thicker than the loins of my father; 11 and now, my father laid on you a heavy yoke, and I add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I—I chastise you with scorpions.' 12 And they come—Jeroboam and all the people—unto Rehoboam, on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, `Come back unto me on the third day.' 13 And the king answereth the people sharply, and forsaketh the counsel of the elders which they counselled him, 14 and speaketh unto them, according to the counsel of the lads, saying, `My father made your yoke heavy, and I add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I—I chastise you with scorpions;' 15 and the king hearkened not unto the people, for the revolution was from Jehovah, in order to establish His word that Jehovah spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam son of Nebat.
JuliaSmith(i) 6 And king Rehoboam will consult the old men which were standing before Solomon his father in his being alive saying, How advise ye to turn back this people word? 7 And they will speak to him, saying, If this day thou wilt be a servant to this people and serve them, and answer them, and speak to them good words, and they were servants to thee all the days. 8 And he will forsake the counsel of the old men which they counseled him, and he will consult with the children which grew up with him which were standing before him. 9 And he will say to them, What do ye advise? and we will turn back word to this people who spake to me, saying, Lighten from the yoke which thy father gave upon us. 10 And the children which grew up with him will speak to him, saying, Thus shalt thou say to this people who spake to thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, do thou lighten from upon us; thus shalt thou speak to them, My littleness thick above my father's loins. 11 And now my father loaded upon you a heavy yoke, and I will add upon your yoke: my father chastised you with whips and I will chastise you with scorpions. 12 And Jeroboam and all the people will come to Rehoboam in the third day, as the king spake, saying, Turn back to me in the third day. 13 And the king will answer the people hard, and he will forsake the counsel of the old men which they counseled him; 14 And he will speak to them according to the counsel of the children, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add upon your yoke: my father chastised you with whips and I will chastise you with scorpions. 15 And the king heard not to the people, for the turn was from Jehovah for sake of lifting up his word which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam son of Nebat.

Rotherham(i) 6 Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who used to stand before Solomon his father, while he yet lived, saying,––How do, ye, advise, that I answer this people? 7 And they spake unto him, saying––If, today, thou wilt be servant unto this people, and wilt serve them,––and answer them kindly, and speak unto them good words, then will they be, thy, servants, always. 8 But he declined the counsel of the elders which they gave him, and consulted with the young men, who had grown up with him, who were standing before himself; 9 and said unto them––What counsel do, ye, give as to how we shall answer this people who have spoken unto me, saying––Make a lightening of the yoke which thy father put upon us? 10 Then spake unto him the young men who had grown up with him, saying, Thus, shalt thou say to this people that have spoken unto thee, saying––Thy father, made our yoke heavy, thou, therefore lighten it upon us, Thus, shalt thou speak unto them, My little finger, is thicker than my father’s loins; 11 Now, therefore, whereas, my father, laid upon you a heavy yoke, I, will add to your yoke,––My father, did chastise you with whips, but, I, will chastise you with scorpions. 12 So Jeroboam and all the people came in unto Rehoboam, on the third day,––as the king had bidden, saying––Come again unto me, on the third day. 13 And the king answered the people, harshly,––and declined the counsel of the elders wherewith they had counselled him; 14 and spake unto them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father, made your yoke heavy, but, I, will add unto your yoke,––My father, chastised you, with whips, but, I, will chastise you, with scorpions. 15 Thus the king hearkened not unto the people,––for there had come about a turn from Yahweh, that he might establish his word, which Yahweh had spoken by Ahijah the Shilonite, unto Jeroboam, son of Nebat.

BBE(i) 6 Then King Rehoboam took the opinion of the old men who had been with Solomon his father when he was living, and said, In your opinion, what answer am I to give to this people? 7 And they said to him, If you will be a servant to this people today, caring for them and giving them a gentle answer, then they will be your servants for ever. 8 But he gave no attention to the opinion of the old men, and went to the young men of his generation who were waiting before him: 9 And said to them, What is your opinion? What answer are we to give to this people who have said to me, Make less the weight of the yoke which your father put on us? 10 And the young men of his generation said to him, This is the answer to give to the people who came to you saying, Your father put a hard yoke on us; will you make it less? say to them, My little finger is thicker than my father's body; 11 If my father put a hard yoke on you, I will make it harder: my father gave you punishment with whips, but I will give you blows with snakes. 12 So all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had given orders, saying, Come back to me the third day. 13 And the king gave them a rough answer, giving no attention to the suggestion of the old men; 14 But giving them the answer put forward by the young men, saying, My father made your yoke hard, but I will make it harder; my father gave you punishment with whips, but I will give it with snakes. 15 So the king did not give ear to the people; and this came about by the purpose of the Lord, so that what he had said by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam, son of Nebat, might be effected.
MKJV(i) 6 And King Rehoboam talked with the old men who had stood before Solomon his father while he still lived, and said, How do you advise to return a word to this people? 7 And they spoke to him, saying, If you will be a servant to this people today, and will serve them and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever. 8 But he left the counsel of the old men which they had advised him, and talked with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him. 9 And he said to them, What advice do you give that we may answer this people who have spoken to me, saying, Lighten the yoke which your father put on us? 10 And the young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, So shall you speak to this people who spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, but you make it lighter for us, so you shall say to them: My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins. 11 And now my father loaded you with a heavy yoke, and I will add to your yoke. My father has whipped you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 12 And they came, Jeroboam and all the people, to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day. 13 And the king answered the people roughly, and left the old men's advice which they advised him, 14 and spoke to them according to the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke. My father whipped you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 15 And the king did not listen to the people, for the cause was from Jehovah, that He might perform His saying which Jehovah spoke by Ahijah of Shiloh to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
LITV(i) 6 And king Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had been standing before the face of his father Solomon while he was alive, saying, How do you advise in order to answer this people? 7 And they spoke to him, saying, If you are servant to this people today, and will serve them, and answer them and speak to them good words, then they will be servants to you forever. 8 But he forsook the counsel of the elders which they advised him, and consulted with the young men who had grown up with him, who were standing before him. 9 And he said to them, What do you advise, and we shall answer the people who have spoken to me, saying, Lighten some of the yoke that your father put upon us? 10 And they spoke to him, the young men who had grown up with him, saying, So you shall say to this people who have spoken to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, and you make it light on us; so you shall speak to them, My little finger is thicker than the loins of my father, 11 and now my father laid a heavy yoke on you, and I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I will surely chastise you with scorpions. 12 And they came, Jeroboam and all the people, to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, Come back to me on the third day. 13 And the king replied to the people harshly, and forsook the counsel of the elders which they advised him, 14 and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I shall add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I will surely chastise you with scorpions. 15 And the king did not listen to the people, for the revolution was from Jehovah, in order to establish His word that Jehovah spoke by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
ECB(i) 6 and sovereign Rechab Am counsels with the elders who had stood at the face of Shelomoh his father while he yet lived, saying, How counsel you, that I return word to this people? 7 And they word to him, saying, If you are a servant to this people this day and serve them and answer them and word good words to them, then they become your servants all days. 8 And he forsakes the counsel the elders counsel him; and counsels with the children who grew up with him - who stand at his face: 9 and he says to them, What counsel give you that we return word to this people, who word to me, saying, Swiften the yoke your father gave on us? 10 And the children who grew up with him word to him, saying, Say thus to this people who word to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, but swiften it to us - word to them thus, My pinky is thicker than the loins of my father! 11 And now, whereas my father loaded you with a heavy yoke, I add to your yoke: my father disciplined you with whips; and I - I discipline you with scorpions. 12 So Yarob Am and all the people come to Rechab Am the third day as the sovereign worded, saying, Return to me the third day: 13 and the sovereign answers the people hard and forsakes the counsel the elders counsel him; 14 and words to them after the counsel of the children, saying, My father made your yoke heavy and I - I add to your yoke: my father disciplined you with whips, and I - I discipline you with scorpions. 15 And the sovereign hearkens not to the people; for the revolution is from Yah Veh to raise his word which Yah Veh worded by the hand of Achiy Yah the Shilohiy to Yarob Am the son of Nebat.
ACV(i) 6 And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye to me to return an answer to this people? 7 And they spoke to him, saying, If thou will be a servant to this people this day, and will serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants forever. 8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men that grew up with him, who stood before him. 9 And he said to them, What counsel give ye, that we may return an answer to this people who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke that thy father put upon us lighter? 10 And the young men that grew up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus shall thou say to this people that spoke to thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter to us; thus shall thou speak to them, My little finger is thicker than my father's loins. 11 And now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come to me again the third day. 13 And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, 14 and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 15 So the king did not hearken to the people, for it was a thing brought about by LORD, that he might establish his word, which LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
WEB(i) 6 King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me to answer these people?” 7 They replied, “If you will be a servant to this people today, and will serve them, and answer them with good words, then they will be your servants forever.” 8 But he abandoned the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him. 9 He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may answer these people, who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter?’” 10 The young men who had grown up with him said to him, “Tell these people who spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us;’ tell them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist. 11 Now my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’” 12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, “Come to me again the third day.” 13 The king answered the people roughly, and abandoned the counsel of the old men which they had given him, 14 and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.” 15 So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was a thing brought about from Yahweh, that he might establish his word, which Yahweh spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

9 H559 He said H3289 to them, "What counsel do you give, H7725 that we may H1697 return answer H5971 to this people, H1696 who have spoken H559 to me, saying, H7043 ‘Make H5923 the yoke H1 that your father H5414 put H7043 on us lighter?'"
10 H3206 The young men H1431 who had grown up H1696 with him spoke H559 to him, saying, H559 "Thus you shall tell H5971 this people H559 who spoke H559 to you, saying, H1 ‘Your father H3513 made H5923 our yoke H3513 heavy, H7043 but make it lighter H1696 to us;' you shall say H6995 to them, ‘My little H5666 finger is thicker H1 than my father's H4975 waist.
11 H1 Now whereas my father H6006 burdened H3515 you with a heavy H5923 yoke, H3254 I will add H5923 to your yoke: H1 my father H3256 chastised H7752 you with whips, H3256 but I will chastise H6137 you with scorpions.'"
12 H3379 So Jeroboam H5971 and all the people H935 came H7346 to Rehoboam H7992 the third H3117 day, H4428 as the king H1696 asked, H559 saying, H7725 "Come to me again H7992 the third H3117 day."
13 H4428 The king H6030 answered H5971 the people H7186 roughly, H5800 and forsook H6098 the counsel H2205 of the old men H3289 which they had given him,
14 H1696 and spoke H6098 to them according to the counsel H3206 of the young men, H559 saying, H1 "My father H3513 made H5923 your yoke H3513 heavy, H3254 but I will add H5923 to your yoke. H1 My father H3256 chastised H7752 you with whips, H3256 but I will chastise H6137 you with scorpions."
15 H4428 So the king H8085 didn't listen H5971 to the people; H5438 for it was H3068 a thing brought about of Yahweh, H6965 that he might establish H1697 his word, H3068 which Yahweh H1696 spoke H3027 by H281 Ahijah H7888 the Shilonite H3379 to Jeroboam H1121 the son H5028 of Nebat.
NHEB(i) 6 King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, "What counsel do you give me to return answer to this people?" 7 They spoke to him, saying, "If you will be a servant to this people this day, and will serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever." 8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him. 9 He said to them, "What counsel do you give, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, 'Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter?'" 10 The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, "Thus you shall tell this people who spoke to you, saying, 'Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us;' you shall say to them, 'My little finger is thicker than my father's waist. 11 Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.'" 12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, "Come to me again the third day." 13 The king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, 14 and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, "My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions." 15 So the king did not listen to the people; for it was a thing brought about of the LORD, that he might establish his word, which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
AKJV(i) 6 And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do you advise that I may answer this people? 7 And they spoke to him, saying, If you will be a servant to this people this day, and will serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants for ever. 8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him: 9 And he said to them, What counsel give you that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which your father did put on us lighter? 10 And the young men that were grown up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus shall you speak to this people that spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, but make you it lighter to us; thus shall you say to them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins. 11 And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father has chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day. 13 And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men's counsel that they gave him; 14 And spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 15 Why the king listened not to the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

6 H4428 And king H7346 Rehoboam H3289 consulted H2205 with the old H5975 men, that stood H854 before H6440 H8010 Solomon H1 his father H2416 while he yet lived, H559 and said, H349 How H3289 do you advise H7725 that I may answer H1697 H2088 this H5971 people?
7 H1696 And they spoke H559 to him, saying, H518 If H5650 you will be a servant H2088 to this H5971 people H2088 this H3117 day, H5647 and will serve H6030 them, and answer H1696 them, and speak H2896 good H1697 words H5650 to them, then they will be your servants H3605 for ever. H3117

9 H559 And he said H4100 to them, What H3289 counsel H7725 give you that we may answer H1697 H2088 this H5971 people, H834 who H1696 have spoken H559 to me, saying, H5923 Make the yoke H834 which H1 your father H5414 did put H7043 on us lighter?
10 H3206 And the young H1431 men that were grown H1696 up with him spoke H559 to him, saying, H3541 Thus H559 shall you speak H2088 to this H5971 people H1696 that spoke H559 to you, saying, H1 Your father H5923 made our yoke H3513 heavy, H7043 but make you it lighter H3541 to us; thus H1696 shall you say H6996 to them, My little H5666 finger shall be thicker H1 than my father’s H4975 loins.
11 H6258 And now H1 whereas my father H6006 did lade H3515 you with a heavy H5923 yoke, H3254 I will add H5923 to your yoke: H1 my father H3256 has chastised H7752 you with whips, H3256 but I will chastise H6137 you with scorpions.
12 H3379 So Jeroboam H3605 and all H5971 the people H935 came H7346 to Rehoboam H7992 the third H3117 day, H4428 as the king H1696 had appointed, H559 saying, H7725 Come H7725 to me again H7992 the third H3117 day.
  13 H4428 And the king H6030 answered H5971 the people H7186 roughly, H5800 and forsook H2205 the old H6098 men’s counsel H3289 that they gave him;
14 H1696 And spoke H6098 to them after the counsel H3206 of the young H559 men, saying, H1 My father H5923 made your yoke H3513 heavy, H3254 and I will add H5923 to your yoke: H1 my father H3256 also chastised H7752 you with whips, H3256 but I will chastise H6137 you with scorpions.
15 H4428 Why the king H8085 listened H5971 not to the people; H5438 for the cause H3068 was from the LORD, H6965 that he might perform H1697 his saying, H834 which H3068 the LORD H1696 spoke H281 by Ahijah H7888 the Shilonite H3379 to Jeroboam H1121 the son H5028 of Nebat.

12 H3379 So Jeroboam H5971 and all the people H935 came H7346 to Rehoboam H7992 the third H3117 day, H4428 as the king H1696 had appointed, H559 saying, H7725 Come to me again H7992 the third H3117 day.
  13 H4428 And the king H6030 answered H5971 the people H7186 roughly, H5800 and forsook H2205 the old men's H6098 counsel H3289 that they gave him;
14 H1696 And spoke H6098 to them after the counsel H3206 of the young men, H559 saying, H1 My father H3513 made H5923 your yoke H3513 heavy, H3254 and I will add H5923 to your yoke: H1 my father H3256 also chastised H7752 you with whips, H3256 but I will chastise H6137 you with scorpions.

EJ2000(i) 6 Then King Rehoboam consulted with the old men that had stood before Solomon, his father, while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people? 7 And they spoke unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a slave unto this people this day and wilt serve them and answer them by speaking good words unto them, then they will be thy slaves for ever. 8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him and who stood before him. 9 And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father put upon us lighter? 10 And the young men that were grown up with him spoke unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spoke unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them: My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins. 11 And now whereas my father ladened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke; my father has chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day. 13 And the king answered the people roughly and forsook the old men’s counsel that they gave him 14 and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke; my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 15 Therefore, the king did not hearken unto the people, for the cause was from the LORD, to confirm his word, which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam, the son of Nebat.
CAB(i) 6 Then the king referred the matter to the elders, who stood before Solomon his father while he was yet living, saying, How do you advise that I should answer this people? 7 And they spoke to him, saying, If you will this day be a servant to this people, and serve them, and speak to them good words, then will they be your servants continually. 8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they gave him, and consulted with the young men who were brought up with him, who stood in his presence. 9 And he said to them, What counsel do you give? And what shall I answer to this people who speak to me, saying, Lighten somewhat of the yoke which your father has put upon us? 10 And the young men who had been brought up with him, who stood before his face, spoke to him, saying, Thus shall you say to this people who have spoken to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, and would you now lighten it from off us. Thus shall say to them: My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins. 11 And whereas my father put a heavy yoke on you, I also will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 12 And all Israel came to King Rehoboam on the third day, as the king spoke to them, saying, Return to me on the third day. 13 And the king answered the people harshly. And Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men which they counseled him. 14 And he spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 15 And the king hearkened not to the people, because the change was from the Lord, that He might establish His word which He spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite concerning Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
LXX2012(i) 6 And the king referred [the matter] to the elders, who stood before Solomon his father while he was yet living, saying, How do you⌃ advise that I should answer this people? 7 And they spoke to him, saying, If you will this day be a servant to this people, and will serve them, and will speak to them good words, then will they be your servants continually. 8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they gave him, and consulted with the young men who were brought up with him, who stood in his presence. 9 And he said to them, What counsel do you⌃ give? And what shall I answer to this people who speak to me, saying, Lighten somewhat of the yoke which your father has put upon us? 10 And the young men who had been brought up with him, who stood before his face, spoke to him, saying, Thus shall you say to this people who have spoken to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, and do you now lighten it from off us: thus shall say to them, My little [finger shall be] thicker than my father's loins. 15 And the king listened not to the people, because the change was from the Lord, that he might establish his word which he spoke by Achia the Selonite concerning Jeroboam the son of Nabat.
NSB(i) 6 Then King Rehoboam consulted elders who had been with Solomon his father when he was living. He said: »In your opinion, what answer am I to give to these people?« 7 They said to him: »If you will be a servant to this people today, caring for them and giving them a favorable answer, then they will be your servants for ever.« 8 But he paid no attention to the opinion of the elders. He went to the young men who were his advisors: 9 »What is your opinion?« He asked: »What answer are we to give to this people? They want me to lighten the burdens placed on them by my father.« 10 His young advisors said: »This is the answer to give to the people who came to you saying: ‘Your father put a hard yoke on us; will you make it less?’ Say to them: ‘My little finger is thicker than my father's body.’ 11 »‘If my father put a hard yoke on you, I will make it harder! My father gave you punishment with whips, but I will give you blows with snakes.’« 12 So all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day just as the king ordered. 13 The king gave them a harsh answer. He paid no attention to the suggestion of the elders. 14 He gave them the answer suggested by the young advisors. He said: »My father made your yoke hard, but I will make it harder! My father gave you punishment with whips, but I will give it with snakes.« 15 The king did not listen to the people. This came about by Jehovah’s purpose, so that what he had said by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam, son of Nebat, might be fulfilled.
ISV(i) 6 while King Rehoboam conferred with his advisors who had worked for his father Solomon during his administration. He asked them, “What is your advice as to how I should respond to these people?”
7 They advised him, “If today you are a servant, you will serve this people by answering them and speaking kindly to them. Then they will serve you forever.”
8 But Rehoboam ignored the counsel that his elder advisors had given him. Instead, he consulted the younger men who had grown up with him and who worked for him. 9 As a result, he asked them, “What’s your advice so that we can give an answer to these people who have asked me, ‘Please lighten the burden that your father put on us.’?”
10 “This is what you should tell these people who asked you ‘Your father made our burden heavy, but you must make it lighter for us!’” the young men who grew up with Rehoboam replied. “Tell them, ‘My little finger will be thicker than my father’s whole body! 11 Not only that, but since my father loaded you down heavily, I’m going to add to that burden. My father disciplined you with whips, but I’m going to discipline you with scorpions!’”
12 So Jeroboam and all the people went back to Rehoboam on the third day, just as they had been directed when the king said, “Come back again in three days.” 13 But the king gave the people a harsh response, because he was ignoring the counsel that his elders had given him. 14 Instead, Rehoboam spoke to them along the lines of what the younger men suggested. He told them “My father burdened you heavily, but I will add to that burden. If my father disciplined you with whips, I’m going to discipline you with scorpions!”
15 The king would not listen to the people, because the turn of events was from the LORD, to fulfill his prediction that the LORD spoke by means of Ahijah the Shilonite to Nebat’s son Jeroboam
LEB(i) 6 Then King Rehoboam consulted with the old men who had been serving* before Solomon his father when he was alive, saying, "How are you advising me to answer this people?"* 7 They said to him, "If you will be a servant today to this people, then you will serve them; and if you answer them and speak good words to them, they will always be your servants." 8 But he rejected the advice of the old men, which they gave him, and he consulted with the youngsters who had grown up with him, who were serving* before him. 9 He said to them, "What are you advising that we should reply to this people who spoke to me by saying, 'Lighten the yoke your father put on us.'" 10 Then the youngsters who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, "Thus you shall say to this people who spoke to you: 'Your father made our yoke heavy, but you lighten it for us,' you shall say to them, 'My little finger is thicker than my father's loins. 11 So then, my father loaded a heavy yoke on all of you, but I will add to your yoke; my father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions!'" 12 Jeroboam and all of the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had spoken: "Return to me on the third day." 13 Then the king answered all the people harshly, as he had rejected the advice of the old men that they had offered. 14 He spoke to them according to the advice of the youngsters, saying, "My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add onto your yoke; my father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions." 15 So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a turning of events from Yahweh in order to fulfill his word which Yahweh had spoken through the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
BSB(i) 6 Then King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime. “How do you advise me to respond to these people?” he asked. 7 They replied, “If you will be a servant to these people and serve them this day, and if you will respond by speaking kind words to them, they will be your servants forever.” 8 But Rehoboam rejected the advice of the elders; instead, he consulted the young men who had grown up with him and served him. 9 He asked them, “What message do you advise that we send back to these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Lighten the yoke your father put on us’?” 10 The young men who had grown up with him replied, “This is how you should answer these people who said to you, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but you should make it lighter.’ This is what you should tell them: ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist! 11 Whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my father scourged you with whips, I will scourge you with scorpions.’” 12 After three days, Jeroboam and all the people returned to Rehoboam, since the king had said, “Come back to me on the third day.” 13 And the king answered the people harshly. He rejected the advice of the elders 14 and spoke to them as the young men had advised, saying, “Whereas my father made your yoke heavy, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my father scourged you with whips, I will scourge you with scorpions.” 15 So the king did not listen to the people, and indeed this turn of events was from the LORD, to fulfill the word He had spoken to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah the Shilonite.
MSB(i) 6 Then King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime.
MLV(i) 6 And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give you* to me to return an answer to this people? 7 And they spoke to him, saying, If you will be a servant to this people this day and will serve them and answer them and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.
8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him and took counsel with the young men that grew up with him, who stood before him. 9 And he said to them, What counsel give you*, that we may return an answer to this people who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke that your father put upon us lighter?
10 And the young men that grew up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus you will say to this people that spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, but make you it lighter to us; thus will you speak to them, My little finger is thicker than my father's loins. 11 And now in what my father burdened you* with a heavy yoke, I will add to your* yoke. My father disciplined you* with whips, but I will chastise you* with scorpions.
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king commanded, saying, Come to me again the third day. 13 And the king answered the people roughly and forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, 14 and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your* yoke heavy, but I will add to your* yoke. My father disciplined you* with whips, but I will chastise you* with scorpions.
15 So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a thing brought about by Jehovah, that he might establish his word, which Jehovah spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
VIN(i) 6 Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who used to stand before Solomon his father, while he yet lived, saying,—How do, ye, advise, that I answer this people? 7 They said to him: "If you will be a servant to this people today, caring for them and giving them a favorable answer, then they will be your servants for ever." 8 But he rejected the advice of the old men, which they gave him, and he consulted with the youngsters who had grown up with him, who were serving before him. 9 He said to them, "What are you advising that we should reply to this people who spoke to me by saying, 'Lighten the yoke your father put on us.'" 10 The young men who had grown up with him said to him, “Tell these people who spoke to you, saying, 'Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us;' tell them, 'My little finger is thicker than my father's waist. 11 and now, my father laid on you a heavy yoke, and I add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I--I chastise you with scorpions.. 12 And they came, Jeroboam and all the people, to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, Come back to me on the third day. 13 the king answered the people churlishly and left the advice that old men gave him: 14 and spoke to them, in the manner the young men advised, saying, My father made your yoke heavy but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 15 The king would not listen to the people because the turn of events was from the LORD, to fulfill his prediction that the LORD spoke through Nebat's son Ahijah the Shilonite.

9 A řekl k nim: Co vy radíte, jakou bychom dali odpověd lidu tomuto, kteříž mluvili ke mně, řkouce: Polehč břemene, kteréž vzložil otec tvůj na nás? 10 I odpověděli jemu mládenci, kteříž zrostli s ním, řkouce: Takto odpovíš lidu tomu, kteříž mluvili k tobě a řekli: Otec tvůj ztížil jho naše, ty pak polehč nám. Takto díš jim: Nejmenší prst můj tlustší jest nežli bedra otce mého. 11 Nyní tedy otec můj těžké břímě vložil na vás, já pak přidám břemene vašeho; otec můj trestal vás bičíky, ale já trestati vás budu biči uzlovatými. 12 Přišel tedy Jeroboám i všecken lid k Roboámovi dne třetího, jakž byl rozkázal král, řka: Navraťte se ke mně dne třetího. 13 I odpověděl král lidu tvrdě, opustiv radu starců, kterouž dali jemu. 14 A mluvil k nim vedlé rady mládenců, řka: Otec můj ztížil jho vaše, já pak přidám břemene vašeho; otec můj trestal vás bičíky, ale já trestati vás budu biči uzlovatými. 15 I neuposlechl král lidu.

11 Przetoż teraz ojciec mój kładł na was jarzmo ciężkie, ale ja przydam do jarzma waszego; ojciec mój karał was biczykami, ale ja was będę karał korbaczami. 12 Przyszedł tedy Jeroboam, i wszystek lud do Roboama dnia trzeciego, jako był rozkazał król, mówiąc: Wróćcie się do mnie dnia trzeciego. 13 I dał srogą odpowiedź król ludowi, opuściwszy radę starszych, którą mu byli dali, 14 A rzekł do nich według rady młodzieńców, mówiąc: Ojciec mój obciążał was jarzmem ciężkiem, ale ja przydam do jarzma waszego; ojciec mój karał was biczykami, ale ja was będę karał korbaczami.
