1 Kings 12:6-15 And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?

6 H4428 And king H7346 Rehoboam H3289 took counsel H2205 with the old men, H5975 that had stood H6440 before H8010 Solomon H1 his father H2416 while he yet lived, H559 saying, H3289 What counsel H7725 give ye me to return H1697 answer H5971 to this people?

7 H1696 And they spake H559 unto him, saying, H5650 If thou wilt be a servant H5971 unto this people H3117 this day, H5647 and wilt serve H6030 them, and answer H1696 them, and speak H2896 good H1697 words H5650 to them, then they will be thy servants H3117 for ever.

8 H5800 But he forsook H6098 the counsel H2205 of the old men H3289 which they had given H3289 him, and took counsel H3206 with the young men H1431 that were grown up H5975 with him, that stood H6440 before him.

9 H559 And he said H3289 unto them, What counsel give H7725 ye, that we may H1697 return answer H5971 to this people, H1696 who have spoken H559 to me, saying, H7043 Make H5923 the yoke H1 that thy father H5414 did put H7043 upon us lighter?

10 H3206 And the young men H1431 that were grown up H1696 with him spake H559 unto him, saying, H559 Thus shalt thou say H5971 unto this people H1696 that spake H559 unto thee, saying, H1 Thy father H3513 made H5923 our yoke H3513 heavy, H7043 but make thou it lighter H1696 unto us; thus shalt thou speak H6995 unto them, My little H5666 finger is thicker H1 than my father's H4975 loins.

11 H1 And now whereas my father H6006 did lade H3515 you with a heavy H5923 yoke, H3254 I will add H5923 to your yoke: H1 my father H3256 chastised H7752 you with whips, H3256 but I will chastise H6137 you with scorpions.

12 H3379 So Jeroboam H5971 and all the people H935 came H7346 to Rehoboam H7992 the third H3117 day, H4428 as the king H1696 bade, H559 saying, H7725 Come to me again H7992 the third H3117 day.

13 H4428 And the king H6030 answered H5971 the people H7186 roughly, H5800 and forsook H6098 the counsel H2205 of the old men H3289 which they had given him,

14 H1696 and spake H6098 to them after the counsel H3206 of the young men, H559 saying, H1 My father H3513 made H5923 your yoke H3513 heavy, H3254 but I will add H5923 to your yoke: H1 my father H3256 chastised H7752 you with whips, H3256 but I will chastise H6137 you with scorpions.

15 H4428 So the king H8085 hearkened H5971 not unto the people; H5438 for it was H3068 a thing brought about of Jehovah, H6965 that he might establish H1697 his word, H3068 which Jehovah H1696 spake H3027 by H281 Ahijah H7888 the Shilonite H3379 to Jeroboam H1121 the son H5028 of Nebat.
