Joshua 7:1-25 But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing : for Achan , the son of Carmi , the son of Zabdi , the son of Zerah , of the tribe of Judah , took of the accursed thing : and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.

2 H3091 And Joshua H7971 [H8799] sent H582 men H3405 from Jericho H5857 to Ai H5973 , which is beside H1007 Bethaven H6924 , on the east side H1008 of Bethel H559 [H8799] , and spoke H559 [H8800] to them, saying H5927 [H8798] , Go up H7270 [H8761] and view H776 the country H582 . And the men H5927 [H8799] went up H7270 [H8762] and viewed H5857 Ai.

3 H7725 [H8799] And they returned H3091 to Joshua H559 [H8799] , and said H5971 to him, Let not all the people H5927 [H8799] go up H7969 ; but let about two or three H505 thousand H376 men H5927 [H8799] go up H5221 [H8686] and smite H5857 Ai H5971 ; and make not all the people H3021 [H8762] to labour H4592 there; for they are but few.

4 H5927 [H8799] So there went up H5971 there from the people H7969 about three H505 thousand H376 men H5127 [H8799] : and they fled H6440 before H582 the men H5857 of Ai.

5 H582 And the men H5857 of Ai H5221 [H8686] smote H7970 of them about thirty H8337 and six H376 men H7291 [H8799] : for they chased H6440 them from before H8179 the gate H7671 even to Shebarim H5221 [H8686] , and smote H4174 them in the going down H3824 : therefore the hearts H5971 of the people H4549 [H8735] melted H4325 , and became as water.

6 H3091 And Joshua H7167 [H8799] tore H8071 his clothes H5307 [H8799] , and fell H776 to the earth H6440 upon his face H6440 before H727 the ark H3068 of the LORD H6153 until the evening H2205 , he and the elders H3478 of Israel H5927 [H8686] , and put H6083 dust H7218 upon their heads.

7 H3091 And Joshua H559 [H8799] said H162 , Alas, O H136 Lord H3069 GOD H5674 [H8687] , why hast thou at all H5674 0 brought H5971 this people H5674 [H8689] over H3383 Jordan H5414 [H8800] , to deliver H3027 us into the hand H567 of the Amorites H6 [H8687] , to destroy H3863 us? O that H2974 [H8689] we had been content H3427 [H8799] , and dwelt H5676 on the other side H3383 of Jordan!

9 H3669 For the Canaanites H3427 [H8802] and all the inhabitants H776 of the land H8085 [H8799] shall hear H5437 [H8738] of it, and shall surround us H3772 [H8689] , and cut off H8034 our name H776 from the earth H6213 [H8799] : and what wilt thou do H1419 to thy great H8034 name?

10 H3068 And the LORD H559 [H8799] said H3091 to Joshua H6965 [H8798] , Arise H5307 [H8802] ; why liest H6440 thou thus upon thy face?

11 H3478 Israel H2398 [H8804] hath sinned H5674 [H8804] , and they have also transgressed H1285 my covenant H6680 [H8765] which I commanded H3947 [H8804] them: for they have even taken H2764 of the accursed thing H1589 [H8804] , and have also stolen H3584 [H8765] , and deceived H7760 [H8804] also, and they have put H3627 it even among their own goods.

12 H1121 Therefore the children H3478 of Israel H3201 [H8799] could H6965 [H8800] not stand H6440 before H341 [H8802] their enemies H6437 [H8799] , but turned H6203 their backs H6440 before H341 [H8802] their enemies H2764 , because they were accursed H3254 [H8686] : neither will I be with you any more H3808 , except H8045 [H8686] ye destroy H2764 the accursed H7130 from among you.

13 H6965 [H8798] Rise H6942 [H8761] , sanctify H5971 the people H559 [H8804] , and say H6942 [H8690] , Sanctify H4279 yourselves for to morrow H559 [H8804] : for thus saith H3068 the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel H2764 , There is an accursed thing H7130 in the midst H3478 of thee, O Israel H3201 [H8799] : thou canst H6965 [H8800] not stand H6440 before H341 [H8802] thy enemies H5493 [H8687] , until ye take away H2764 the accursed thing H7130 from among you.

14 H1242 In the morning H7126 [H8738] therefore ye shall be brought H7626 according to your tribes H7626 : and it shall be, that the tribe H3068 which the LORD H3920 [H8799] taketh H7126 [H8799] shall come H4940 according to their families H4940 ; and the family H3068 which the LORD H3920 [H8799] shall take H7126 [H8799] shall come H1004 by households H1004 ; and the household H3068 which the LORD H3920 [H8799] shall take H7126 [H8799] shall come H1397 man H1397 by man.

15 H3920 [H8737] And it shall be, that he that is taken H2764 with the accursed thing H8313 [H8735] shall be burnt H784 with fire H5674 [H8804] , he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed H1285 the covenant H3068 of the LORD H6213 [H8804] , and because he hath wrought H5039 folly H3478 in Israel.

16 H3091 So Joshua H7925 [H8686] rose early H1242 in the morning H7126 [H8686] , and brought H3478 Israel H7626 by their tribes H7626 ; and the tribe H3063 of Judah H3920 [H8735] was taken:

17 H7126 [H8686] And he brought H4940 the family H3063 of Judah H3920 [H8799] ; and he took H4940 the family H2227 of the Zarhites H7126 [H8686] : and he brought H4940 the family H2227 of the Zarhites H1397 man H1397 by man H2067 ; and Zabdi H3920 [H8735] was taken:

18 H7126 [H8686] And he brought H1004 his household H1397 man H1397 by man H5912 ; and Achan H1121 , the son H3756 of Carmi H1121 , the son H2067 of Zabdi H1121 , the son H2226 of Zerah H4294 , of the tribe H3063 of Judah H3920 [H8735] , was taken.

19 H3091 And Joshua H559 [H8799] said H5912 to Achan H1121 , My son H7760 [H8798] , give H3519 , I pray thee, glory H3068 to the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel H5414 [H8798] , and make H8426 confession H5046 [H8685] to him; and tell H6213 [H8804] me now what thou hast done H3582 [H8762] ; hide it not from me.

20 H5912 And Achan H6030 [H8799] answered H3091 Joshua H559 [H8799] , and said H546 , Indeed H2398 [H8804] I have sinned H3068 against the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel H6213 [H8804] , and thus and thus have I done:

21 H7200 [H8799] When I saw H7998 among the spoils H259 a H2896 beautiful H8152 Babylonish H155 garment H3967 , and two hundred H8255 shekels H3701 of silver H259 , and a H3956 wedge H2091 of gold H2572 of fifty H8255 shekels H4948 weight H2530 [H8799] , then I coveted H3947 [H8799] them, and took H2934 [H8803] them; and, behold, they are hid H776 in the earth H8432 in the midst H168 of my tent H3701 , and the silver under it.

22 H3091 So Joshua H7971 [H8799] sent H4397 messengers H7323 [H8799] , and they ran H168 to the tent H2934 [H8803] ; and, behold, it was hid H168 in his tent H3701 , and the silver under it.

23 H3947 [H8799] And they took H8432 them from the midst H168 of the tent H935 [H8686] , and brought H3091 them to Joshua H1121 , and to all the children H3478 of Israel H3332 [H8686] , and laid them out H6440 before H3068 the LORD.

24 H3091 And Joshua H3478 , and all Israel H3947 [H8799] with him, took H5912 Achan H1121 the son H2226 of Zerah H3701 , and the silver H155 , and the garment H3956 , and the wedge H2091 of gold H1121 , and his sons H1323 , and his daughters H7794 , and his oxen H2543 , and his donkeys H6629 , and his sheep H168 , and his tent H5927 [H8686] , and all that he had: and they brought H6010 them to the valley H5911 of Achor.

25 H3091 And Joshua H559 [H8799] said H4100 , Why H5916 [H8804] hast thou troubled H3068 us? the LORD H5916 [H8799] shall trouble H3117 thee this day H3478 . And all Israel H7275 [H8799] stoned H68 him with stones H8313 [H8799] , and burned H784 them with fire H5619 [H8799] , after they had stoned H68 them with stones.
