  2 H1732 So David H5927 [H8799] went up H8147 there, and his two H802 wives H293 also, Ahinoam H3159 the Jezreelitess H26 , and Abigail H5037 Nabal's H802 wife H3761 the Carmelite.
  3 H582 And his men H1732 that were with him did David H5927 [H8689] bring up H376 , every man H1004 with his household H3427 [H8799] : and they dwelt H5892 in the cities H2275 of Hebron.
  4 H582 And the men H3063 of Judah H935 [H8799] came H4886 [H8799] , and there they anointed H1732 David H4428 king H1004 over the house H3063 of Judah H5046 [H8686] . And they told H1732 David H559 [H8800] , saying H582 , That the men H3003 H1568 of Jabeshgilead H6912 [H8804] were they that buried H7586 Saul.
  5 H1732 And David H7971 [H8799] sent H4397 messengers H582 to the men H3003 H1568 of Jabeshgilead H559 [H8799] , and said H1288 [H8803] to them, Blessed H3068 be ye of the LORD H6213 [H8804] , that ye have shown H2617 this kindness H113 to your lord H7586 , even to Saul H6912 [H8799] , and have buried him.
  6 H3068 And now the LORD H6213 [H8799] show H2617 kindness H571 and truth H6213 [H8799] to you: and I also will repay H2896 you this kindness H6213 [H8804] , because ye have done H1697 this thing.
  7 H3027 Therefore now let your hands H2388 [H8799] be strengthened H1121 H2428 , and be ye valiant H113 : for your master H7586 Saul H4191 [H8804] is dead H1004 , and also the house H3063 of Judah H4886 [H8804] have anointed H4428 me king over them.
  8 H74 But Abner H1121 the son H5369 of Ner H8269 , captain H7586 of Saul's H6635 host H3947 [H8804] , took H378 Ishbosheth H1121 the son H7586 of Saul H5674 [H8686] , and brought him over H4266 to Mahanaim;
  9 H4427 [H8686] And he made him king H1568 over Gilead H805 , and over the Ashurites H3157 , and over Jezreel H669 , and over Ephraim H1144 , and over Benjamin H3478 , and over all Israel.

  12 H74 And Abner H1121 the son H5369 of Ner H5650 , and the servants H378 of Ishbosheth H1121 the son H7586 of Saul H3318 [H8799] , went out H4266 from Mahanaim H1391 to Gibeon.
  13 H3097 And Joab H1121 the son H6870 of Zeruiah H5650 , and the servants H1732 of David H3318 [H8804] , went out H6298 [H8799] , and met H3162 together H1295 by the pool H1391 of Gibeon H3427 [H8799] : and they sat down H1295 , the one on the one side of the pool H1295 , and the other on the other side of the pool.
  14 H74 And Abner H559 [H8799] said H3097 to Joab H5288 , Let the young men H6965 [H8799] now arise H7832 [H8762] , and fight H6440 before H3097 us. And Joab H559 [H8799] said H6965 [H8799] , Let them arise.
  15 H6965 [H8799] Then there arose H5674 [H8799] and went over H4557 by number H8147 H6240 twelve H1144 of Benjamin H378 , who pertained to Ishbosheth H1121 the son H7586 of Saul H8147 H6240 , and twelve H5650 of the servants H1732 of David.
  16 H2388 [H8686] And they caught H376 every one H7453 his opponent H7218 by the head H2719 , and thrust his sword H7453 in his opponent's H6654 side H5307 [H8799] ; so they fell down H3162 together H4725 : therefore that place H7121 [H8799] was called H2521 Helkathhazzurim H1391 , which is in Gibeon.
  17 H3966 And there was a very H7186 fierce H4421 battle H3117 that day H74 ; and Abner H5062 [H8735] was smitten H582 , and the men H3478 of Israel H6440 , before H5650 the servants H1732 of David.
  18 H7969 And there were three H1121 sons H6870 of Zeruiah H3097 there, Joab H52 , and Abishai H6214 , and Asahel H6214 : and Asahel H7031 was as light H7272 of foot H259 as a H7704 wild H6643 roe.
  19 H6214 And Asahel H7291 [H8799] pursued H310 after H74 Abner H3212 [H8800] ; and in going H5186 [H8804] he turned H3225 not to the right hand H8040 nor to the left H310 from following H74 Abner.
  20 H74 Then Abner H6437 [H8799] looked H310 behind H559 [H8799] him, and said H6214 , Art thou Asahel H559 [H8799] ? And he answered, I am.
  21 H74 And Abner H559 [H8799] said H5186 [H8798] to him, Turn thee aside H3225 to thy right hand H8040 or to thy left H270 [H8798] , and lay hold H259 on one H5288 of the young men H3947 [H8798] , and take H2488 to thee his armour H6214 . But Asahel H14 [H8804] would H5493 [H8800] not turn aside H310 from following him.
  22 H74 And Abner H559 [H8800] said H3254 [H8686] again H6214 to Asahel H5493 [H8798] , Turn thee aside H310 from following H5221 [H8686] me: why should I smite H776 thee to the ground H5375 [H8799] ? how then should I hold up H6440 my face H3097 to Joab H251 thy brother?
  23 H3985 [H8762] But he refused H5493 [H8800] to turn aside H74 : therefore Abner H310 with the blunt end H2595 of the spear H5221 [H8686] smote H413 him under H2570 the fifth H2595 rib, that the spear H3318 [H8799] came out H310 behind H5307 [H8799] him; and he fell down H4191 [H8799] there, and died H8478 in the same place H935 [H8802] : and it came to pass, that as many as came H4725 to the place H6214 where Asahel H5307 [H8804] fell down H4191 [H8799] and died H5975 [H8799] stood still.
  24 H3097 Joab H52 also and Abishai H7291 H310 [H8799] pursued H74 Abner H8121 : and the sun H935 [H8804] went down H935 [H8804] when they had come H1389 to the hill H522 of Ammah H6440 , that lieth before H1520 Giah H1870 by the way H4057 of the wilderness H1391 of Gibeon.
  25 H1121 And the children H1144 of Benjamin H6908 [H8691] gathered themselves together H310 after H74 Abner H259 , and became one H92 troop H5975 [H8799] , and stood H7218 on the top H1389 of an hill.
  26 H74 Then Abner H7121 [H8799] called H3097 to Joab H559 [H8799] , and said H2719 , Shall the sword H398 [H8799] devour H5331 for ever H3045 [H8804] ? knowest H4751 thou not that it will be bitterness H314 in the latter end H559 [H8799] ? how long shall it be then, before thou wilt bid H5971 the people H7725 [H8800] return H310 from following H251 their brethren?
  27 H3097 And Joab H559 [H8799] said H430 , As God H2416 liveth H3884 , unless H1696 [H8765] thou hadst spoken H1242 , surely then in the morning H5971 the people H5927 [H8738] had gone up H376 every one H310 from following H251 his brother.
  28 H3097 So Joab H8628 [H8799] blew H7782 a trumpet H5971 , and all the people H5975 [H8799] stood still H7291 H310 [H8799] , and pursued H3478 Israel H3898 [H8736] no more, neither fought H3254 [H8804] they any more.
  29 H74 And Abner H582 and his men H1980 [H8804] walked H3915 all that night H6160 through the plain H5674 [H8799] , and passed over H3383 Jordan H3212 [H8799] , and went through H1338 all Bithron H935 [H8799] , and they came H4266 to Mahanaim.
  30 H3097 And Joab H7725 [H8804] returned H310 from following H74 Abner H6908 0 : and when he had gathered H5971 all the people H6908 [H8799] together H6485 [H8735] , there lacked H1732 of David's H5650 servants H8672 H6240 nineteen H376 men H6214 and Asahel.
  31 H5650 But the servants H1732 of David H5221 [H8689] had smitten H1144 of Benjamin H74 , and of Abner's H582 men H7969 , so that three H3967 hundred H8346 and sixty H376 men H4191 [H8804] died.
  32 H5375 [H8799] And they took up H6214 Asahel H6912 [H8799] , and buried H6913 him in the sepulchre H1 of his father H1035 , which was in Bethlehem H3097 . And Joab H582 and his men H3212 [H8799] went H3915 all night H2275 , and they came to Hebron H215 [H8735] at break of day.
