1 Chronicles 21:4-17

  4 H4428 Nevertheless the king’s H1697 word H2388 prevailed H5921 against H3097 Joab. H3097 Why Joab H3318 departed, H1980 and went H3605 throughout all H3478 Israel, H935 and came H3389 to Jerusalem.

  5 H3097 And Joab H5414 gave H4557 the sum H4662 of the number H5971 of the people H1732 to David. H3605 And all H3478 they of Israel H505 were a thousand H505 thousand H3967 and an hundred H505 thousand H376 men H8025 that drew H2719 sword: H3063 and Judah H702 was four H3967 hundred H7657 three score H505 and ten thousand H376 men H8025 that drew H2719 sword.

  6 H3878 But Levi H1144 and Benjamin H6485 counted H8432 he not among H4428 them: for the king’s H1697 word H8581 was abominable H3097 to Joab.

  7 H430 And God H3415 was displeased H5869 H2088 with this H1697 thing; H5221 therefore he smote H3478 Israel.

  8 H1732 And David H559 said H430 to God, H2398 I have sinned H3966 greatly, H834 because H6213 I have done H2088 this H1697 thing: H6258 but now, H4994 I beseech H5674 you, do H5674 away H5771 the iniquity H5650 of your servant; H3966 for I have done very H5528 foolishly.

  9 H3068 And the LORD H1696 spoke H1410 to Gad, H1732 David’s H2374 seer, H559 saying,

  10 H3212 Go H1696 and tell H1732 David, H559 saying, H3541 Thus H559 said H3068 the LORD, H5186 I offer H7969 you three H977 things: choose H259 you one H6213 of them, that I may do it to you.

  11 H1410 So Gad H935 came H1732 to David, H559 and said H3541 to him, Thus H559 said H3068 the LORD, H6901 Choose you

  12 H518 Either H7969 three H8141 years’ H7458 famine; H7969 or three H2320 months H5595 to be destroyed H6440 before H6862 your foes, H2719 while that the sword H341 of your enemies H5381 overtakes H518 you; or else H7969 three H3117 days H2719 the sword H3068 of the LORD, H1698 even the pestilence, H776 in the land, H4397 and the angel H3068 of the LORD H7843 destroying H3605 throughout all H1366 the coasts H3478 of Israel. H6258 Now H7200 therefore advise H4100 yourself what H1697 word H7725 I shall bring H7725 again H7971 to him that sent me.

  13 H1732 And David H559 said H1410 to Gad, H3966 I am in a great H6887 strait: H5307 let me fall H4994 now H3027 into the hand H3068 of the LORD; H3966 for very H7227 great H7356 are his mercies: H5307 but let me not fall H3027 into the hand H120 of man.

  14 H3068 So the LORD H5414 sent H1698 pestilence H3478 on Israel: H5307 and there fell H3478 of Israel H7657 seventy H505 thousand H376 men.

  15 H430 And God H7971 sent H4397 an angel H3389 to Jerusalem H7843 to destroy H7843 it: and as he was destroying, H3068 the LORD H7200 beheld, H5162 and he repented H7451 him of the evil, H559 and said H4397 to the angel H7843 that destroyed, H7227 It is enough, H7503 stay H6258 now H3027 your hand. H4397 And the angel H3068 of the LORD H5975 stood H1637 by the threshing floor H771 of Ornan H2983 the Jebusite.

  16 H1732 And David H5375 lifted H5869 up his eyes, H7200 and saw H4397 the angel H3068 of the LORD H5975 stand H996 between H776 the earth H8064 and the heaven, H8025 having a drawn H2719 sword H3027 in his hand H5186 stretched H5921 out over H3389 Jerusalem. H1732 Then David H2205 and the elders H3680 of Israel, who were clothed H8242 in sackcloth, H5307 fell H6440 on their faces.

  17 H1732 And David H559 said H430 to God, H559 Is it not I that commanded H5971 the people H4487 to be numbered? H2398 even I it is that have sinned H7489 and done evil H428 indeed; but as for these H6629 sheep, H6213 what have they done? H3027 let your hand, H4994 I pray H3068 you, O LORD H430 my God, H1 be on me, and on my father’s H1004 house; H5971 but not on your people, H4046 that they should be plagued.
