Matthew(i)
4 Neuerthelater the kynges wordes preuailed agaynst Ioab. And Ioab toke his waye. And went thorow oute all Israel, and came to Ierusalem,
5 and gaue the nombre of the counte of the people vnto Dauid. And al Israel were in nombre a thousand thousande, and an hundred thousande men that drewe swerde: and Iuda was .cccc.lxx. thousand men that drewe swerde.
6 But the Leuites and Beniamin he counted not amonge them. For the kynges deade semed abominable to Ioab.
7 And the the Lord dyspleased wt this thing, & smote Israel.
8 Then sayde Dauid to God: I haue synned exceadingly in doyinge thys thynge. Neuerthelesse yet do awaye the wekednesse of thy seruaunte, for I haue done aboue measure folyshly.
9 And the Lorde spake vnto Gad Dauids sear of vysions saying:
10 go and tel Dauid sayinge. Thus sayth the Lorde: I geue the the chose of thre thynges: chose the one of them, that I maye do vnto the.
11 And Gad came to Dauid and sayde vnto him. Thus sayth the Lorde.
12 Chose the eyther thre yeares famyshement, or thre monethes to be consumed of thine aduersaries, the swerde of thyne enemyes ouertakynge the: or else the swerde of the Lord thre dayes and pestilence in the lande, the Aungel of the Lorde destroyinge thorowe oute all the coastes of Israel. And now aduise thy self what word I shal brynge againe to hym that sent me.
13 And Dauid sayde to Gad: I am in an exceadynge strayte. But let me fal into the handes of the Lord, for passynge great in his mercye, and let me not falle into the handes of men.
14 And the Lorde sent pestilence vpon all Israel, so that there were ouerthrowen of Israel .lxx. thousande men
15 And God sent the Aungel to Ierusalem to destroye it. And as he was about to destroye, the Lorde behelde and had compassion on the wretchednesse, and sayde to the Aungell that destroyed, it is ynoughe, nowe cease thyne hand. And the Aungel of the Lorde stode by the thressyng floure of Ornan the Iebusite.
16 And Dauid lyfte vp hys eyes & saw the Aungel of the Lorde stand betwene the earth and heauen with a drawen swerde in his hande stretched oute towarde Ierusalem. Then fel Dauid & the elders of Israel clothed in sacke vpon their faces.
17 And Dauid said vnto God: Is it not I that commaunded to nombre the people? And I am he that haue sinned and done euyl in deade. But what haue these shepe done? let thyne hande therfore O Lorde God, be on me and on my fathers house, and not on thy people to destroye them.
