Indonesian⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹ Sementara bangsa Israel tinggal di Lembah Sitim, orang-orang lelaki mereka mulai berzinah dengan wanita-wanita Moab yang ada di situ. ² Wanita-wanita itu mengajak mereka ke pesta-pesta kurban untuk menghormati ilah mereka. Orang Israel juga ikut makan kurban itu dan menyembah ilah orang Moab. ³ Karena orang Israel menyembah Baal di Peor, TUHAN marah kepada mereka dan berkata kepada Musa, ⁴ "Tangkaplah semua orang yang mengepalai bangsa itu dan bunuhlah mereka di depan umum sebagai pelaksanaan perintah-Ku, supaya Aku tidak marah lagi kepada bangsa itu." ⁵ Kemudian Musa berkata kepada hakim-hakim Israel, "Kamu masing-masing harus membunuh semua orang dalam sukumu yang telah menyembah Baal di Peor." ⁶ Ketika Musa dan seluruh umat sedang meratap di pintu Kemah TUHAN, mereka melihat seorang Israel membawa seorang wanita Midian masuk ke dalam kemahnya. ⁷ Waktu Pinehas, anak Eleazar, cucu Imam Harun melihat hal itu, ia bangkit dan meninggalkan perkumpulan itu. І запалав гнів Господній на Ізраїля. ⁴ І сказав Господь до Мойсея: Візьми всіх голів народу, та й повішай їх для Господа навпроти сонця. І відвернеться палючий Господній гнів від Ізраїля. ⁵ І сказав Мойсей до Ізраїлевих суддів: Позабивайте кожен мужів своїх, приліплених до пеорського Ваала. ⁶ Аж ось прийшов один із Ізраїлевих синів, та й привів до братів своїх мідіянітянку на очах Мойсея й на очах усієї громади Ізраїлевих синів, а вони плакали при вході скинії заповіту. ⁷ І побачив це Пінхас, син Елеазара, сина священика Аарона. І встав він з-посеред громади, і взяв списа в свою руку. ⁸ І ввійшов він за Ізраїлевим мужем до середини мешкання, та й пробив їх обох ізраїльтянина та ту жінку, аж через її черево. І була стримана поразка Ізраїлевих синів. ⁹ І померло в поразці двадцять і чотири тисячі.
