H1697 And the word H3068 of the LORD H559 came unto me, saying [H8800]  ,
H1121 Son H120 of man H2330 , put forth [H8798]   H2420 a riddle H4911 , and speak [H8798]   H4912 a parable H1004 unto the house H3478 of Israel;
H559 And say [H8804]   H559 , Thus saith [H8804]   H136 the Lord H3069 GOD H1419 ; A great H5404 eagle H1419 with great H3671 wings H83 , longwinged H750   H4392 , full H5133 of feathers H7553 , which had divers colours H935 , came [H8804]   H3844 unto Lebanon H3947 , and took [H8799]   H6788 the highest branch H730 of the cedar:
H6998 He cropped off [H8804]   H7218 the top H3242 of his young twigs H935 , and carried [H8686]   H776 it into a land H3667 of traffick H7760 ; he set [H8804]   H5892 it in a city H7402 of merchants [H8802]  .
H3947 He took [H8799]   H2233 also of the seed H776 of the land H5414 , and planted [H8799]   H2233 it in a fruitful H7704 field H3947 ; he placed [H8804]   H7227 it by great H4325 waters H7760 , and set [H8804]   H6851 it as a willow tree.
H6779 And it grew [H8799]   H5628 , and became a spreading [H8802]   H1612 vine H8217 of low H6967 stature H1808 , whose branches H6437 turned [H8800]   H8328 toward him, and the roots H1612 thereof were under him: so it became a vine H6213 , and brought forth [H8799]   H905 branches H7971 , and shot [H8762]   H6288 forth sprigs.
H259 There was also another H1419 great H5404 eagle H1419 with great H3671 wings H7227 and many H5133 feathers H1612 : and, behold, this vine H3719 did bend [H8804]   H8328 her roots H7971 toward him, and shot forth [H8765]   H1808 her branches H8248 toward him, that he might water [H8687]   H6170 it by the furrows H4302 of her plantation.
H8362 It was planted [H8803]   H2896 in a good H7704 soil H7227 by great H4325 waters H6213 , that it might bring forth [H8800]   H6057 branches H5375 , and that it might bear [H8800]   H6529 fruit H155 , that it might be a goodly H1612 vine.
H559 Say [H8798]   H559 thou, Thus saith [H8804]   H136 the Lord H3069 GOD H6743 ; Shall it prosper [H8799]   H5423 ? shall he not pull up [H8762]   H8328 the roots H7082 thereof, and cut off [H8779]   H6529 the fruit H3001 thereof, that it wither [H8804]   H3001 ? it shall wither [H8799]   H2964 in all the leaves H6780 of her spring H1419 , even without great H2220 power H7227 or many H5971 people H5375 to pluck it up [H8800]   H8328 by the roots thereof.
H8362 Yea, behold, being planted [H8803]   H6743 , shall it prosper [H8799]   H3001 ? shall it not utterly [H8800]   H3001 wither [H8799]   H6921 , when the east H7307 wind H5060 toucheth [H8800]   H3001 it? it shall wither [H8799]   H6170 in the furrows H6780 where it grew.
H1697 Moreover the word H3068 of the LORD H559 came unto me, saying [H8800]  ,
H559 Say [H8798]   H4805 now to the rebellious H1004 house H3045 , Know [H8804]   H559 ye not what these things mean ? tell [H8798]   H4428 them, Behold, the king H894 of Babylon H935 is come [H8802]   H3389 to Jerusalem H3947 , and hath taken [H8799]   H4428 the king H8269 thereof, and the princes H935 thereof, and led [H8686]   H894 them with him to Babylon;
H3947 And hath taken [H8799]   H4410 of the king's H2233 seed H3772 , and made [H8799]   H1285 a covenant H935 with him, and hath taken [H8686]   H423 an oath H3947 of him: he hath also taken [H8804]   H352 the mighty H776 of the land:
H4467 That the kingdom H8217 might be base H5375 , that it might not lift itself up [H8692]   H8104 , but that by keeping [H8800]   H1285 of his covenant H5975 it might stand [H8800]  .
H4775 But he rebelled [H8799]   H7971 against him in sending [H8800]   H4397 his ambassadors H4714 into Egypt H5414 , that they might give [H8800]   H5483 him horses H7227 and much H5971 people H6743 . Shall he prosper [H8799]   H4422 ? shall he escape [H8735]   H6213 that doeth [H8802]   H6565 such things ? or shall he break [H8689]   H1285 the covenant H4422 , and be delivered [H8738]  ?
H2416 As I live H5002 , saith [H8803]   H136 the Lord H3069 GOD H4725 , surely in the place H4428 where the king H4427 dwelleth that made him king [H8688]   H423 , whose oath H959 he despised [H8804]   H1285 , and whose covenant H6565 he brake [H8689]   H8432 , even with him in the midst H894 of Babylon H4191 he shall die [H8799]  .
H6547 Neither shall Pharaoh H1419 with his mighty H2428 army H7227 and great H6951 company H6213 make [H8799]   H4421 for him in the war H8210 , by casting up [H8800]   H5550 mounts H1129 , and building [H8800]   H1785 forts H3772 , to cut off [H8687]   H7227 many H5315 persons:
H959 Seeing he despised [H8804]   H423 the oath H6565 by breaking [H8687]   H1285 the covenant H5414 , when, lo, he had given [H8804]   H3027 his hand H6213 , and hath done [H8804]   H4422 all these things, he shall not escape [H8735]  .
H559 Therefore thus saith [H8804]   H136 the Lord H3069 GOD H2416 ; As I live H423 , surely mine oath H959 that he hath despised [H8804]   H1285 , and my covenant H6331 that he hath broken [H8689]   H5414 , even it will I recompense [H8804]   H7218 upon his own head.
H6566 And I will spread [H8804]   H7568 my net H8610 upon him, and he shall be taken [H8738]   H4686 in my snare H935 , and I will bring [H8689]   H894 him to Babylon H8199 , and will plead [H8738]   H4603 with him there for his trespass [H8804]   H4604 that he hath trespassed against me.
H4015 And all his fugitives H102 with all his bands H5307 shall fall [H8799]   H2719 by the sword H7604 , and they that remain [H8737]   H6566 shall be scattered [H8735]   H7307 toward all winds H3045 : and ye shall know [H8804]   H3068 that I the LORD H1696 have spoken [H8765]   it .
H559 Thus saith [H8804]   H136 the Lord H3069 GOD H3947 ; I will also take [H8804]   H6788 of the highest branch H7311 of the high [H8802]   H730 cedar H5414 , and will set [H8804]   H6998 it; I will crop off [H8799]   H7218 from the top H3127 of his young twigs H7390 a tender one H8362 , and will plant [H8804]   H1364 it upon an high H2022 mountain H8524 and eminent [H8803]  :
H2022 In the mountain H4791 of the height H3478 of Israel H8362 will I plant [H8799]   H5375 it: and it shall bring forth [H8804]   H6057 boughs H6213 , and bear [H8804]   H6529 fruit H117 , and be a goodly H730 cedar H7931 : and under it shall dwell [H8804]   H6833 all fowl H3671 of every wing H6738 ; in the shadow H1808 of the branches H7931 thereof shall they dwell [H8799]  .
H6086 And all the trees H7704 of the field H3045 shall know [H8804]   H3068 that I the LORD H8213 have brought down [H8689]   H1364 the high H6086 tree H1361 , have exalted [H8689]   H8217 the low H6086 tree H3001 , have dried [H8689]   H3892 up the green H6086 tree H3002 , and have made the dry H6086 tree H6524 to flourish [H8689]   H3068 : I the LORD H1696 have spoken [H8765]   H6213 and have done [H8804]   it .
ERV(i) 1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel; 3 and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD: A great eagle with great wings and long pinions, full of feathers, which had divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the top of the cedar: 4 he cropped off the topmost of the young twigs thereof, and carried it into a land of traffic; he set it in a city of merchants. 5 He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful soil; he placed it beside many waters; he set it as a willow tree. 6 And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs. 7 There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend its roots toward him, and shot forth its branches toward him, from the beds of its plantation, that he might water it. 8 It was planted in a good soil by many waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine. 9 Say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD: Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it may wither; that all its fresh springing leaves may wither; even without great power or much people to pluck it up by the roots thereof? 10 Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither; when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the beds where it grew. 11 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 12 Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took the king thereof, and the princes thereof, and brought them to him to Babylon; 13 and he took of the seed royal, and made a covenant with him; he also brought him under an oath, and took away the mighty of the land: 14 that the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand. 15 But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? shall he break the covenant, and yet escape? 16 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die. 17 Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, when they cast up mounts and build forts, to cut off many persons. 18 For he hath despised the oath by breaking the covenant; and behold, he had given his hand, and yet hath done all these things; he shall not escape. 19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD: As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, I will even bring it upon his own head. 20 And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me. 21 And all his fugitives in all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward every wind: and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken it. 22 Thus saith the Lord GOD: I will also take of the lofty top of the cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the topmost of his young twigs a tender one, and I will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent: 23 in the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell. 24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.
