Joshua 10 Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it (as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king), and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;

1 H139 Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedek H4428 king H3389 of Jerusalem H8085 heard H3588 how H3091 Joshua H3920 had taken H5857 Ai, H2763 and had utterly destroyed H6213 it (as he had done H3405 to Jericho H4428 and her king, H6213 so he had done H5857 to Ai H4428 and her king), H3427 and how the inhabitants H1391 of Gibeon H7999 had made peace H3478 with Israel, H7130 and were among them;

2 H3372 that they feared H3966 greatly, H1391 because Gibeon H1419 was a great H5892 city, H259 as one H4467 of the royal H5892 cities, H1419 and because it was greater H5857 than Ai, H582 and all the men H1368 thereof were mighty.

3 H139 Wherefore Adoni-zedek H4428 king H3389 of Jerusalem H7971 sent H1944 unto Hoham H4428 king H2275 of Hebron, H6502 and unto Piram H4428 king H3412 of Jarmuth, H3309 and unto Japhia H4428 king H3923 of Lachish, H1688 and unto Debir H4428 king H5700 of Eglon, H559 saying,

4 H5927 Come up H5826 unto me, and help H5221 me, and let us smite H1391 Gibeon; H7999 for it hath made peace H3091 with Joshua H1121 and with the children H3478 of Israel.

5 H2568 Therefore the five H4428 kings H567 of the Amorites, H4428 the king H3389 of Jerusalem, H4428 the king H2275 of Hebron, H4428 the king H3412 of Jarmuth, H4428 the king H3923 of Lachish, H4428 the king H5700 of Eglon, H622 gathered themselves together, H5927 and went up, H4264 they and all their hosts, H2583 and encamped H1391 against Gibeon, H3898 and made war against it.

6 H582 And the men H1391 of Gibeon H7971 sent H3091 unto Joshua H4264 to the camp H1537 to Gilgal, H559 saying, H7503 Slack H3027 not thy hand H5650 from thy servants; H5927 come up H4120 to us quickly, H3467 and save H5826 us, and help H4428 us: for all the kings H567 of the Amorites H3427 that dwell H2022 in the hill-country H6908 are gathered together against us.

7 H3091 So Joshua H5927 went up H1537 from Gilgal, H5971 he, and all the people H4421 of war H1368 with him, and all the mighty H2428 men of valor.

8 H3068 And Jehovah H559 said H3091 unto Joshua, H3372 Fear H5414 them not: for I have delivered H3027 them into thy hands; H376 there shall not a man H5975 of them stand H6440 before thee.

9 H3091 Joshua H935 therefore came H6597 upon them suddenly; H5927 for he went up H1537 from Gilgal H3915 all the night.

10 H3068 And Jehovah H2000 discomfited H6440 them before H3478 Israel, H5221 and he slew H1419 them with a great H4347 slaughter H1391 at Gibeon, H7291 and chased H1870 them by the way H4608 of the ascent H1032 of Beth-horon, H5221 and smote H5825 them to Azekah, H4719 and unto Makkedah.

11 H5127 And it came to pass, as they fled H6440 from before H3478 Israel, H4174 while they were at the descent H1032 of Beth-horon, H3068 that Jehovah H4174 cast down H1419 great H68 stones H8064 from heaven H5825 upon them unto Azekah, H4191 and they died: H7227 they were more H4191 who died H1259 with the hailstones H834 than they whom H1121 the children H3478 of Israel H2026 slew H2719 with the sword.

12 H1696 Then spake H3091 Joshua H3068 to Jehovah H3117 in the day H3068 when Jehovah H5414 delivered up H567 the Amorites H6440 before H1121 the children H3478 of Israel; H559 and he said H5869 in the sight H3478 of Israel, H8121 Sun, H1826 stand thou still H1391 upon Gibeon; H3394 And thou, Moon, H6010 in the valley H357 of Aijalon.

13 H8121 And the sun H1826 stood still, H3394 and the moon H5975 stayed, H1471 Until the nation H5358 had avenged H341 themselves of their enemies. H1931 Is not this H3789 written H5612 in the book H3477 of Jashar? H8121 And the sun H5975 stayed H2677 in the midst H8064 of heaven, H213 and hasted H935 not to go down H8549 about a whole H3117 day.

14 H3117 And there was no day H6440 like that before H310 it or after H3068 it, that Jehovah H8085 hearkened H6963 unto the voice H376 of a man: H3068 for Jehovah H3898 fought H3478 for Israel.

15 H3091 And Joshua H7725 returned, H3478 and all Israel H4264 with him, unto the camp H1537 to Gilgal.

16 H2568 And these five H4428 kings H5127 fled, H2244 and hid H4631 themselves in the cave H4719 at Makkedah.

17 H5046 And it was told H3091 Joshua, H559 saying, H2568 The five H4428 kings H4672 are found, H2244 hidden H4631 in the cave H4719 at Makkedah.

18 H3091 And Joshua H559 said, H1556 Roll H1419 great H68 stones H6310 unto the mouth H4631 of the cave, H6485 and set H582 men H8104 by it to keep them:

19 H5975 but stay H7291 not ye; pursue H310 after H341 your enemies, H2179 and smite the hindmost H5414 of them; suffer H935 them not to enter H5892 into their cities: H3068 for Jehovah H430 your God H5414 hath delivered H3027 them into your hand.

20 H3091 And it came to pass, when Joshua H1121 and the children H3478 of Israel H3615 had made an end H5221 of slaying H3966 them with a very H1419 great H4347 slaughter, H8552 till they were consumed, H8300 and the remnant H8277 which remained H935 of them had entered H4013 into the fortified H5892 cities,

21 H5971 that all the people H7725 returned H4264 to the camp H3091 to Joshua H4719 at Makkedah H7965 in peace: H2782 none moved H3956 his tongue H376 against any H1121 of the children H3478 of Israel.

22 H559 Then said H3091 Joshua, H6605 Open H6310 the mouth H4631 of the cave, H3318 and bring forth H2568 those five H4428 kings H4631 unto me out of the cave.

23 H6213 And they did H3318 so, and brought forth H2568 those five H4428 kings H4631 unto him out of the cave, H4428 the king H3389 of Jerusalem, H4428 the king H2275 of Hebron, H4428 the king H3412 of Jarmuth, H4428 the king H3923 of Lachish, H4428 the king H5700 of Eglon.

24 H3318 And it came to pass, when they brought forth H4428 those kings H3091 unto Joshua, H3091 that Joshua H7121 called H376 for all the men H3478 of Israel, H559 and said H7101 unto the chiefs H582 of the men H4421 of war H1980 that went H7126 with him, Come near, H7760 put H7272 your feet H6677 upon the necks H4428 of these kings. H7126 And they came near, H7760 and put H7272 their feet H6677 upon the necks of them.

25 H3091 And Joshua H559 said H3372 unto them, Fear H2865 not, nor be dismayed; H2388 be strong H553 and of good courage: H3068 for thus shall Jehovah H6213 do H341 to all your enemies H3898 against whom ye fight.

26 H310 And afterward H3091 Joshua H5221 smote H4191 them, and put them to death, H8518 and hanged H2568 them on five H6086 trees: H8518 and they were hanging H6086 upon the trees H6153 until the evening.

27 H6256 And it came to pass at the time H935 of the going down H8121 of the sun, H3091 that Joshua H6680 commanded, H3381 and they took them down H6086 off the trees, H7993 and cast H4631 them into the cave H2244 wherein they had hidden H7760 themselves, and laid H1419 great H68 stones H6310 on the mouth H4631 of the cave, H6106 unto this very H3117 day.

28 H3091 And Joshua H3920 took H4719 Makkedah H3117 on that day, H5221 and smote H6310 it with the edge H2719 of the sword, H4428 and the king H2763 thereof: he utterly destroyed H5315 them and all the souls H7604 that were therein; he left H8300 none remaining; H6213 and he did H4428 to the king H4719 of Makkedah H6213 as he had done H4428 unto the king H3405 of Jericho.

29 H3091 And Joshua H5674 passed H4719 from Makkedah, H3478 and all Israel H3841 with him, unto Libnah, H3898 and fought H3841 against Libnah:

30 H3068 and Jehovah H5414 delivered H4428 it also, and the king H3027 thereof, into the hand H3478 of Israel; H5221 and he smote H6310 it with the edge H2719 of the sword, H5315 and all the souls H7604 that were therein; he left H8300 none remaining H6213 in it; and he did H4428 unto the king H6213 thereof as he had done H4428 unto the king H3405 of Jericho.

31 H3091 And Joshua H5674 passed H3841 from Libnah, H3478 and all Israel H3923 with him, unto Lachish, H2583 and encamped H3898 against it, and fought against it:

32 H3068 and Jehovah H5414 delivered H3923 Lachish H3027 into the hand H3478 of Israel; H3920 and he took H8145 it on the second H3117 day, H5221 and smote H6310 it with the edge H2719 of the sword, H5315 and all the souls H6213 that were therein, according to all that he had done H3841 to Libnah.

33 H2036 Then Horam H4428 king H1507 of Gezer H5927 came up H5826 to help H3923 Lachish; H3091 and Joshua H5221 smote H5971 him and his people, H7604 until he had left H8300 him none remaining.

34 H3091 And Joshua H5674 passed H3923 from Lachish, H3478 and all Israel H5700 with him, unto Eglon; H2583 and they encamped H3898 against it, and fought against it;

35 H3920 and they took H3117 it on that day, H5221 and smote H6310 it with the edge H2719 of the sword; H5315 and all the souls H2763 that were therein he utterly destroyed H3117 that day, H6213 according to all that he had done H3923 to Lachish.

36 H3091 And Joshua H5927 went up H5700 from Eglon, H3478 and all Israel H2275 with him, unto Hebron; H3898 and they fought against it:

37 H3920 and they took H5221 it, and smote H6310 it with the edge H2719 of the sword, H4428 and the king H5892 thereof, and all the cities H5315 thereof, and all the souls H7604 that were therein; he left H8300 none remaining, H6213 according to all that he had done H5700 to Eglon; H2763 but he utterly destroyed H5315 it, and all the souls that were therein.

38 H3091 And Joshua H7725 returned, H3478 and all Israel H1688 with him, to Debir, H3898 and fought against it:

39 H3920 and he took H4428 it, and the king H5892 thereof, and all the cities H5221 thereof; and they smote H6310 them with the edge H2719 of the sword, H2763 and utterly destroyed H5315 all the souls H7604 that were therein; he left H8300 none remaining: H6213 as he had done H2275 to Hebron, H6213 so he did H1688 to Debir, H4428 and to the king H6213 thereof; as he had done H3841 also to Libnah, H4428 and to the king thereof.

40 H3091 So Joshua H5221 smote H776 all the land, H2022 the hill-country, H5045 and the South, H8219 and the lowland, H794 and the slopes, H4428 and all their kings: H7604 he left H8300 none remaining, H2763 but he utterly destroyed H5397 all that breathed, H3068 as Jehovah, H430 the God H3478 of Israel, H6680 commanded.

41 H3091 And Joshua H5221 smote H6947 them from Kadesh-barnea H5804 even unto Gaza, H776 and all the country H1657 of Goshen, H1391 even unto Gibeon.

42 H4428 And all these kings H776 and their land H3091 did Joshua H3920 take H259 at one H6471 time, H3068 because Jehovah, H430 the God H3478 of Israel, H3898 fought H3478 for Israel.

43 H3091 And Joshua H7725 returned, H3478 and all Israel H4264 with him, unto the camp H1537 to Gilgal.
