Jeremiah 20 Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things.

1 H6583 Now Pashur H1121 the son H564 of Immer H3548 the priest, H6496 who was also chief H5057 governor H1004 in the house H3068 of the LORD, H8085 [H8799] heard H3414 that Jeremiah H5012 [H8738] prophesied H1697 these things.

2 H6583 Then Pashur H5221 [H8686] struck H3414 Jeremiah H5030 the prophet, H5414 [H8799] and put H4115 him in the stocks H5945 that were in the high H8179 gate H1144 of Benjamin, H1004 which was by the house H3068 of the LORD.

3 H4283 And it came to pass on the next day, H6583 that Pashur H3318 [H8686] brought forth H3414 Jeremiah H4115 out of the stocks. H559 [H8799] Then said H3414 Jeremiah H3068 to him, The LORD H7121 [H8804] hath not called H8034 thy name H6583 Pashur, H4036 but Magormissabib.

4 H559 [H8804] For thus saith H3068 the LORD, H5414 [H8802] Behold, I will make H4032 thee a terror H157 [H8802] to thyself, and to all thy friends: H5307 [H8804] and they shall fall H2719 by the sword H341 [H8802] of their enemies, H5869 and thine eyes H7200 [H8802] shall behold H5414 [H8799] it: and I will give H3063 all Judah H3027 into the hand H4428 of the king H894 of Babylon, H1540 [H8689] and he shall carry them captive H894 into Babylon, H5221 [H8689] and shall slay H2719 them with the sword.

5 H5414 [H8804] Moreover I will give H2633 all the strength H5892 of this city, H3018 and all its labours, H3366 and all its precious things, H214 and all the treasures H4428 of the kings H3063 of Judah H5414 [H8799] will I give H3027 into the hand H341 [H8802] of their enemies, H962 [H8804] who shall plunder H3947 [H8804] them, and take H935 [H8689] them, and carry H894 them to Babylon.

6 H6583 And thou, Pashur, H3427 [H8802] and all that dwell H1004 in thy house H3212 [H8799] shall go H7628 into captivity: H935 [H8799] and thou shalt come H894 to Babylon, H4191 [H8799] and there thou shalt die, H6912 [H8735] and shalt be buried H157 [H8802] there, thou, and all thy friends, H5012 [H8738] to whom thou hast prophesied H8267 lies.

7 H3068 O LORD, H6601 [H8765] thou hast deceived H6601 [H8735] me, and I was deceived: H2388 [H8804] thou art stronger H3201 [H8799] than I, and hast prevailed: H7814 I am in derision H3117 daily, H3932 [H8802] every one mocketh me.

8 H1767 For since H1696 [H8762] I spoke, H2199 [H8799] I cried out, H7121 [H8799] I called H2555 violence H7701 and spoil; H1697 because the word H3068 of the LORD H2781 was made a reproach H7047 to me, and a derision, H3117 daily.

9 H559 [H8804] Then I said, H2142 [H8799] I will not make mention H1696 [H8762] of him, nor speak H8034 any more in his name. H3820 But his word was in my heart H1197 [H8802] as a burning H784 fire H6113 [H8803] shut up H6106 in my bones, H3811 [H8738] and I was weary H3557 [H8771] with forbearing, H3201 [H8799] and I could not refrain.

10 H8085 [H8804] For I heard H1681 the defaming H7227 of many, H4032 fear H5439 on every side. H5046 [H8685] Report, H5046 [H8686] say they, and we will report H582 H7965 it. All my friends H8104 [H8802] watched H6763 H6761 [H8676] for my fall, H6601 [H8792] saying, Perhaps he will be enticed, H3201 [H8799] and we shall prevail H3947 [H8799] against him, and we shall take H5360 our revenge on him.

11 H3068 But the LORD H1368 is with me as a mighty H6184 terrible one: H7291 [H8802] therefore my persecutors H3782 [H8735] shall stumble, H3201 [H8799] and they shall not prevail: H3966 they shall be greatly H954 [H8804] pale; H7919 [H8689] for they shall not prosper: H5769 their everlasting H3639 disgrace H7911 [H8735] shall never be forgotten.

12 H3068 But, O LORD H6635 of hosts, H974 [H8802] that triest H6662 the righteous, H7200 [H8802] and seest H3629 the kidneys H3820 and the heart, H7200 [H8799] let me see H5360 thy vengeance H1540 [H8765] on them: for to thee have I opened H7379 my cause.

13 H7891 [H8798] Sing H3068 to the LORD, H1984 [H8761] praise H3068 ye the LORD: H5337 [H8689] for he hath delivered H5315 the breath H34 of the poor H3027 from the hand H7489 [H8688] of evildoers.

14 H779 [H8803] Cursed H3117 be the day H3205 [H8795] when I was born: H3117 let not the day H517 when my mother H3205 [H8804] bore H1288 [H8803] me be blessed.

15 H779 [H8803] Cursed H376 be the man H1319 [H8765] who brought tidings H1 to my father, H559 [H8800] saying, H2145 H1121 A son H3205 [H8795] is born H8055 [H8763] to thee; making him very H8055 [H8765] glad.

16 H376 And let that man H5892 be as the cities H3068 which the LORD H2015 [H8804] overthrew, H5162 [H8738] and sighed H8085 [H8804] not: and let him hear H2201 the outcry H1242 in the morning, H8643 and the shouting H6256 H6672 at noon;

17 H4191 [H8790] Because he slew H7358 me not in the womb; H517 or that my mother H6913 might have been my burying-place, H7358 and her womb H5769 to be always H2030 great with me.

18 H3318 [H8804] Why was I brought H7358 out of the womb H7200 [H8800] to see H5999 labour H3015 and sorrow, H3117 that my days H3615 [H8799] should be consumed H1322 with shame?
