Deuteronomy 20 When thou goest out to battle against thy enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt.

1 H3318 [H8799] When thou goest out H4421 to battle H341 [H8802] against thy enemies, H7200 [H8804] and seest H5483 horses, H7393 and chariots, H5971 and a people H7227 more H3372 [H8799] than thou, be not afraid H3068 of them: for the LORD H430 thy God H5927 [H8688] is with thee, who brought thee H776 out of the land H4714 of Egypt.

2 H7126 [H8800] And it shall be, when ye are come near H4421 to the battle, H3548 that the priest H5066 [H8738] shall approach H1696 [H8765] and speak H5971 to the people,

3 H559 [H8804] And shall say H8085 [H8798] to them, Hear, H3478 O Israel, H7131 ye approach H3117 this day H4421 to battle H341 [H8802] against your enemies: H3824 let not your hearts H7401 [H8735] faint, H3372 [H8799] fear H2648 [H8799] not, and do not tremble, H6206 [H8799] neither be ye terrified H6440 because of them;

4 H3068 For the LORD H430 your God H1980 [H8802] is he that goeth H3898 [H8736] with you, to fight H341 [H8802] for you against your enemies, H3467 [H8687] to liberate you.

5 H7860 [H8802] And the officers H1696 [H8765] shall speak H5971 to the people, H559 [H8800] saying, H376 What man H1129 [H8804] is there that hath built H2319 a new H1004 house, H2596 [H8804] and hath not dedicated H3212 [H8799] it? let him go H7725 [H8799] and return H1004 to his house, H4191 [H8799] lest he should die H4421 in the battle, H312 and another H376 man H2596 [H8799] should dedicate it.

6 H376 And what man H5193 [H8804] is he that hath planted H3754 a vineyard, H2490 [H8765] and hath not yet eaten H3212 [H8799] of it? let him also go H7725 [H8799] and return H1004 to his house, H4191 [H8799] lest he should die H4421 in the battle, H312 and another H376 man H2490 [H8762] should eat of it.

7 H376 And what man H781 [H8765] is there that hath betrothed H802 a wife, H3947 [H8804] and hath not taken H3212 [H8799] her? let him go H7725 [H8799] and return H1004 to his house, H4191 [H8799] lest he should die H4421 in battle, H312 and another H376 man H3947 [H8799] should take her.

8 H7860 [H8802] And the officers H1696 [H8763] shall speak H3254 [H8804] further H5971 to the people, H559 [H8804] and they shall say, H376 What man H3373 is there that is fearful H7390 H3824 and fainthearted? H3212 [H8799] let him go H7725 [H8799] and return H1004 to his house, H251 lest his brethren's H3824 heart H4549 [H8735] should faint H3824 as well as his heart.

9 H7860 [H8802] And it shall be, when the officers H3615 [H8763] have finished H1696 [H8763] speaking H5971 to the people, H6485 [H8804] that they shall make H8269 captains H6635 of the armies H7218 to lead H5971 the people.

10 H7126 [H8799] When thou comest near H5892 to a city H3898 [H8736] to fight H7121 [H8804] against it, then call H7965 peace to it.

11 H6030 [H8799] And it shall be, if it shall make thee answer H7965 of peace, H6605 [H8804] and open H5971 to thee, then it shall be, that all the people H4672 [H8737] that are found H4522 in it shall be forced labourers H5647 [H8804] to thee, and they shall serve thee.

12 H7999 [H8686] And if it will make no peace H6213 [H8804] with thee, but will make H4421 war H6696 [H8804] against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:

13 H3068 And when the LORD H430 thy God H5414 [H8804] hath given H3027 it into thine hands, H5221 [H8689] thou shalt smite H2138 every male H6310 of it with the edge H2719 of the sword:

14 H802 But the women, H2945 and the little ones, H929 and the cattle, H5892 and all that is in the city, H7998 even all the spoil H962 [H8799] of it, shalt thou take H398 [H8804] to thyself; and thou shalt eat H7998 the spoil H341 [H8802] of thy enemies, H3068 which the LORD H430 thy God H5414 [H8804] hath given thee.

15 H6213 [H8799] Thus shalt thou do H5892 to all the cities H3966 which are very H7350 distant H2007 from thee, which H5892 are not of the cities H1471 of these nations.

16 H5892 But of the cities H5971 of these people, H3068 which the LORD H430 thy God H5414 [H8802] doth give H5159 thee for an inheritance, H2421 [H8762] thou shalt save alive H5397 nothing that breatheth:

17 H2763 [H8687] But thou shalt utterly H2763 [H8686] seclude H2850 them; namely, the Hittites, H567 and the Amorites, H3669 the Canaanites, H6522 and the Perizzites, H2340 the Hivites, H2983 and the Jebusites; H3068 as the LORD H430 thy God H6680 [H8765] hath commanded thee:

18 H3925 [H8762] That they may not teach H6213 [H8800] you to do H8441 after all their abominations, H6213 [H8804] which they have done H430 to their gods; H2398 [H8804] so should ye sin H3068 against the LORD H430 your God.

19 H6696 [H8799] When thou shalt besiege H5892 a city H7227 a long H3117 time, H3898 [H8736] in making war H8610 [H8800] against it to take H7843 [H8686] it, thou shalt not decay H6086 the trees H5080 [H8800] of it by forcing H1631 an axe H398 [H8799] against them: for thou mayest eat H3772 [H8799] of them, and thou shalt not cut them down H6086 (for the tree H7704 of the field H120 is man's H935 [H8800] life) to employ H6440 H4692 them in the siege:

20 H6086 Only the trees H3045 [H8799] which thou knowest H6086 that they are not trees H3978 for food, H7843 [H8686] thou shalt decay H3772 [H8804] and cut them down; H1129 [H8804] and thou shalt build H4692 bulwarks H5892 against the city H6213 [H8802] that maketh H4421 war H3381 [H8800] with thee, until it shall be subdued.
