Deuteronomy 20 When you go forth to battle against your enemies, and see horses, chariots, and a people more than you, you shall not be afraid of them; for Yahweh your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

2 H7126 It shall be, when you draw near H4421 to the battle, H3548 that the priest H5066 shall approach H1696 and speak H5971 to the people,

3 H559 and shall tell H8085 them, "Hear, H3478 Israel, H7131 you draw near H3117 this day H4421 to battle H341 against your enemies: H3824 don't let your heart H7401 faint; H3372 don't be afraid, H2648 nor tremble, H6206 neither be scared H6440 of them;

4 H3068 for Yahweh H430 your God H1980 is he who goes H3898 with you, to fight H341 for you against your enemies, H3467 to save you."

5 H7860 The officers H1696 shall speak H5971 to the people, H559 saying, H376 "What man H1129 is there who has built H2319 a new H1004 house, H2596 and has not dedicated H3212 it? Let him go H7725 and return H1004 to his house, H4191 lest he die H4421 in the battle, H312 and another H376 man H2596 dedicate it.

6 H376 What man H5193 is there who has planted H3754 a vineyard, H2490 and has not used H3212 its fruit? Let him go H7725 and return H1004 to his house, H4191 lest he die H4421 in the battle, H312 and another H376 man H2490 use its fruit.

7 H376 What man H781 is there who has pledged to be married H802 a wife, H3947 and has not taken H3212 her? Let him go H7725 and return H1004 to his house, H4191 lest he die H4421 in the battle, H312 and another H376 man H3947 take her."

8 H7860 The officers H1696 shall speak H3254 further H5971 to the people, H559 and they shall say, H376 "What man H3373 is there who is fearful H7390 and fainthearted? H3212 Let him go H7725 and return H1004 to his house, H251 lest his brother's H3824 heart H4549 melt H3824 as his heart."

9 H7860 It shall be, when the officers H3615 have made an end H1696 of speaking H5971 to the people, H6485 that they shall appoint H8269 captains H6635 of armies H7218 at the head H5971 of the people.

10 H7126 When you draw near H5892 to a city H3898 to fight H7121 against it, then proclaim H7965 peace to it.

11 H6030 It shall be, if it makes you answer H7965 of peace, H6605 and opens H5971 to you, then it shall be, that all the people H4672 who are found H4522 therein shall become tributary H5647 to you, and shall serve you.

12 H7999 If it will make no peace H6213 with you, but will make H4421 war H6696 against you, then you shall besiege it:

13 H3068 and when Yahweh H430 your God H5414 delivers H3027 it into your hand, H5221 you shall strike H2138 every male H6310 of it with the edge H2719 of the sword:

14 H802 but the women, H2945 and the little ones, H929 and the livestock, H5892 and all that is in the city, H7998 even all its spoil, H962 you shall take H398 for a prey to yourself; and you shall eat H7998 the spoil H341 of your enemies, H3068 which Yahweh H430 your God H5414 has given you.

15 H6213 Thus you shall do H5892 to all the cities H3966 which are very H7350 far off H2007 from you, which H5892 are not of the cities H1471 of these nations.

16 H5892 But of the cities H5971 of these peoples, H3068 that Yahweh H430 your God H5414 gives H5159 you for an inheritance, H2421 you shall save alive H5397 nothing that breathes;

17 H2763 but you shall utterly H2763 destroy H2850 them: the Hittite, H567 and the Amorite, H3669 the Canaanite, H6522 and the Perizzite, H2340 the Hivite, H2983 and the Jebusite; H3068 as Yahweh H430 your God H6680 has commanded you;

18 H3925 that they not teach H6213 you to do H8441 after all their abominations, H6213 which they have done H430 to their gods; H2398 so would you sin H3068 against Yahweh H430 your God.

19 H6696 When you shall besiege H5892 a city H7227 a long H3117 time, H3898 in making war H8610 against it to take H7843 it, you shall not destroy H6086 its trees H5080 by wielding H1631 an axe H398 against them; for you may eat H3772 of them, and you shall not cut them down; H6086 for is the tree H7704 of the field H120 man, H935 that it should H6440 be besieged of you?

20 H6086 Only the trees H3045 of which you know H6086 that they are not trees H3978 for food, H7843 you shall destroy H3772 and cut them down; H1129 and you shall build H4692 bulwarks H5892 against the city H6213 that makes H4421 war H3381 with you, until it fall.
