1 Chronicles 10 Now the Philistines fought against Israel ; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines , and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

2 H6430 And the Philistines H1692 followed hard [H8686] H310 after H7586 Saul H310 , and after H1121 his sons H6430 ; and the Philistines H5221 slew [H8686] H3129 Jonathan H41 , and Abinadab H4444 , and Malchishua H1121 , the sons H7586 of Saul.

3 H4421 And the battle H3513 went sore [H8799] H7586 against Saul H3384 , and the archers [H8688] H7198 H4672 hit [H8799] H2342 him, and he was wounded [H8799] H3384 of the archers [H8802] .

4 H559 Then said [H8799] H7586 Saul H5375 to his armourbearer [H8802] H3627 H8025 , Draw [H8798] H2719 thy sword H1856 , and thrust [H8798] H6189 me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised H935 come [H8799] H5953 and abuse [H8694] H5375 me. But his armourbearer [H8802] H3627 H14 would [H8804] H3966 not; for he was sore H3372 afraid [H8804] H7586 . So Saul H3947 took [H8799] H2719 a sword H5307 , and fell [H8799] upon it.

5 H5375 And when his armourbearer [H8802] H3627 H7200 saw [H8799] H7586 that Saul H4191 was dead [H8804] H5307 , he fell [H8799] H2719 likewise on the sword H4191 , and died [H8799] .

6 H7586 So Saul H4191 died [H8799] H7969 , and his three H1121 sons H1004 , and all his house H4191 died [H8804] H3162 together.

7 H376 And when all the men H3478 of Israel H6010 that were in the valley H7200 saw [H8799] H5127 that they fled [H8804] H7586 , and that Saul H1121 and his sons H4191 were dead [H8804] H5800 , then they forsook [H8799] H5892 their cities H5127 , and fled [H8799] H6430 : and the Philistines H935 came [H8799] H3427 and dwelt [H8799] in them.

8 H4283 And it came to pass on the morrow H6430 , when the Philistines H935 came [H8799] H6584 to strip [H8763] H2491 the slain H4672 , that they found [H8799] H7586 Saul H1121 and his sons H5307 fallen [H8802] H2022 in mount H1533 Gilboa.

9 H6584 And when they had stripped [H8686] H5375 him, they took [H8799] H7218 his head H3627 , and his armour H7971 , and sent [H8762] H776 into the land H6430 of the Philistines H5439 round about H1319 , to carry tidings [H8763] H6091 unto their idols H5971 , and to the people.

10 H7760 And they put [H8799] H3627 his armour H1004 in the house H430 of their gods H8628 , and fastened [H8804] H1538 his head H1004 in the temple H1712 of Dagon.

11 H3003 And when all Jabeshgilead H1568 H8085 heard [H8799] H6430 all that the Philistines H6213 had done [H8804] H7586 to Saul,

12 H6965 They arose [H8799] H2428 , all the valiant H376 men H5375 , and took away [H8799] H1480 the body H7586 of Saul H1480 , and the bodies H1121 of his sons H935 , and brought [H8686] H3003 them to Jabesh H6912 , and buried [H8799] H6106 their bones H424 under the oak H3003 in Jabesh H6684 , and fasted [H8799] H7651 seven H3117 days.

13 H7586 So Saul H4191 died [H8799] H4604 for his transgression H4603 which he committed [H8804] H3068 against the LORD H1697 , even against the word H3068 of the LORD H8104 , which he kept [H8804] H7592 not, and also for asking [H8800] H178 counsel of one that had a familiar spirit H1875 , to enquire [H8800] of it;

14 H1875 And enquired [H8804] H3068 not of the LORD H4191 : therefore he slew [H8686] H5437 him, and turned [H8686] H4410 the kingdom H1732 unto David H1121 the son H3448 of Jesse.

But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it. ⁵ And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died. ⁶ So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together. ⁷ And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them. ⁸ And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa. ⁹ And they stripped him, and took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry the tidings unto their idols, and to the people. ¹⁰ And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon. ¹¹ And when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul, ¹² all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days. ¹³ So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against the LORD, because of the word of the LORD, which he kept not; and also for that he asked counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire [thereby], ¹⁴ and inquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
