4 H559 Then said [H8799] H7586 Saul H5375 unto his armourbearer [H8802] H3627 H8025 , Draw [H8798] H2719 thy sword H1856 , and thrust me through [H8798] H6189 therewith; lest these uncircumcised H935 come [H8799] H1856 and thrust me through [H8804] H5953 , and abuse [H8694] H5375 me. But his armourbearer [H8802] H3627 H14 would [H8804] H3966 not; for he was sore H3372 afraid [H8804] H7586 . Therefore Saul H3947 took [H8799] H2719 a sword H5307 , and fell [H8799] upon it.

5 H5375 And when his armourbearer [H8802] H3627 H7200 saw [H8799] H7586 that Saul H4191 was dead [H8804] H5307 , he fell [H8799] H2719 likewise upon his sword H4191 , and died [H8799] with him.

6 H7586 So Saul H4191 died [H8799] H7969 , and his three H1121 sons H5375 , and his armourbearer [H8802] H3627 H582 , and all his men H3117 , that same day H3162 together.

7 H582 And when the men H3478 of Israel H5676 that were on the other side H6010 of the valley H5676 , and they that were on the other side H3383 Jordan H7200 , saw [H8799] H582 that the men H3478 of Israel H5127 fled [H8804] H7586 , and that Saul H1121 and his sons H4191 were dead [H8804] H5800 , they forsook [H8799] H5892 the cities H5127 , and fled [H8799] H6430 ; and the Philistines H935 came [H8799] H3427 and dwelt [H8799] in them.

8 H4283 And it came to pass on the morrow H6430 , when the Philistines H935 came [H8799] H6584 to strip [H8763] H2491 the slain H4672 , that they found [H8799] H7586 Saul H7969 and his three H1121 sons H5307 fallen [H8802] H2022 in mount H1533 Gilboa.

9 H3772 And they cut off [H8799] H7218 his head H6584 , and stripped off [H8686] H3627 his armour H7971 , and sent [H8762] H776 into the land H6430 of the Philistines H5439 round about H1319 , to publish [H8763] H1004 it in the house H6091 of their idols H5971 , and among the people.

10 H7760 And they put [H8799] H3627 his armour H1004 in the house H6252 of Ashtaroth [H8677] H1045 H8628 : and they fastened [H8804] H1472 his body H2346 to the wall H1052 of Bethshan.

11 H3427 And when the inhabitants [H8802] H3003 of Jabeshgilead H1568 H8085 heard [H8799] H6430 of that which the Philistines H6213 had done [H8804] H7586 to Saul;

12 H2428 All the valiant H376 men [H8677] H381 H6965 arose [H8799] H3212 , and went [H8799] H3915 all night H3947 , and took [H8799] H1472 the body H7586 of Saul H1472 and the bodies H1121 of his sons H2346 from the wall H1052 of Bethshan H935 , and came [H8799] H3003 to Jabesh H8313 , and burnt [H8799] them there.

13 H3947 And they took [H8799] H6106 their bones H6912 , and buried [H8799] H815 them under a tree H3003 at Jabesh H6684 , and fasted [H8799] H7651 seven H3117 days.

But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it. ⁵ And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died with him. ⁶ So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together. ⁷ And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were beyond Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them. ⁸ And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa. ⁹ And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry the tidings unto the house of their idols, and to the people. ¹⁰ And they put his armour in the house of the Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan. ¹¹ And when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard concerning him that which the Philistines had done to Saul, ¹² all the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan; and they came to Jabesh, and burnt them there. ¹³ And they took their bones, and buried them under the tamarisk tree in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
