KJV_Strongs(i)
H8050 Then Samuel H3947 took [H8799]   H6378 a vial H8081 of oil H3332 , and poured [H8799]   H7218 it upon his head H5401 , and kissed [H8799]   H559 him, and said [H8799]   H3068 , Is it not because the LORD H4886 hath anointed [H8804]   H5057 thee to be captain H5159 over his inheritance?
H3212 When thou art departed [H8800]   H5978 from me H3117 to day H4672 , then thou shalt find [H8804]   H8147 two H582 men H7354 by Rachel's H6900 sepulchre H1366 in the border H1144 of Benjamin H6766 at Zelzah H559 ; and they will say [H8804]   H860 unto thee, The asses H1980 which thou wentest [H8804]   H1245 to seek [H8763]   H4672 are found [H8738]   H1 : and, lo, thy father H5203 hath left [H8804]   H1697 the care H860 of the asses H1672 , and sorroweth [H8804]   H559 for you, saying [H8800]   H6213 , What shall I do [H8799]   H1121 for my son?
H2498 Then shalt thou go on [H8804]   H1973 forward H935 from thence, and thou shalt come [H8804]   H436 to the plain H8396 of Tabor H4672 , and there shall meet [H8804]   H7969 thee three H582 men H5927 going up [H8802]   H430 to God H1008 to Bethel H259 , one H5375 carrying [H8802]   H7969 three H1423 kids H259 , and another H5375 carrying [H8802]   H7969 three H3603 loaves H3899 of bread H259 , and another H5375 carrying [H8802]   H5035 a bottle H3196 of wine:
H7592 And they will [H8804]   H7965 salute H5414 thee, and give [H8804]   H8147 thee two H3899 loaves of bread H3947 ; which thou shalt receive [H8804]   H3027 of their hands.
H310 After H935 that thou shalt come [H8799]   H1389 to the hill H430 of God H5333 , where is the garrison H6430 of the Philistines H935 : and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither [H8800]   H5892 to the city H6293 , that thou shalt meet [H8804]   H2256 a company H5030 of prophets H3381 coming down [H8802]   H1116 from the high place H5035 with a psaltery H8596 , and a tabret H2485 , and a pipe H3658 , and a harp H6440 , before H5012 them; and they shall prophesy [H8693]  :
H7307 And the Spirit H3068 of the LORD H6743 will come [H8804]   H5012 upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy [H8694]   H2015 with them, and shalt be turned [H8738]   H312 into another H376 man.
H226 And let it be, when these signs H935 are come [H8799]   H6213 unto thee, that thou do [H8798]   H4672 as occasion [H8799]   H3027 serve H430 thee; for God is with thee.
H3381 And thou shalt go down [H8804]   H6440 before H1537 me to Gilgal H3381 ; and, behold, I will come down [H8802]   H5927 unto thee, to offer [H8687]   H5930 burnt offerings H2076 , and to sacrifice [H8800]   H2077 sacrifices H8002 of peace offerings H7651 : seven H3117 days H3176 shalt thou tarry [H8686]   H935 , till I come [H8800]   H3045 to thee, and shew [H8689]   H6213 thee what thou shalt do [H8799]  .
H6437 And it was so, that when he had turned [H8687]   H7926 his back H3212 to go [H8800]   H8050 from Samuel H430 , God H2015 gave [H8799]   H312 him another H3820 heart H226 : and all those signs H935 came [H8799]   H3117 to pass that day.
H935 And when they came [H8799]   H1389 thither to the hill H2256 , behold, a company H5030 of prophets H7125 met [H8800]   H7307 him; and the Spirit H430 of God H6743 came [H8799]   H5012 upon him, and he prophesied [H8691]   H8432 among them.
H3045 And it came to pass, when all that knew [H8802]   H865 him beforetime H8032   H7200 saw [H8799]   H5012 that, behold, he prophesied [H8738]   H5030 among the prophets H5971 , then the people H559 said [H8799]   H376 one H7453 to another H1121 , What is this that is come unto the son H7027 of Kish H7586 ? Is Saul H5030 also among the prophets?
H376 And one H6030 of the same place answered [H8799]   H559 and said [H8799]   H1 , But who is their father H4912 ? Therefore it became a proverb H7586 , Is Saul H5030 also among the prophets?
H3615 And when he had made an end [H8762]   H5012 of prophesying [H8692]   H935 , he came [H8799]   H1116 to the high place.
H7586 And Saul's H1730 uncle H559 said [H8799]   H5288 unto him and to his servant H575 , Whither H1980 went [H8804]   H559 ye? And he said [H8799]   H1245 , To seek [H8763]   H860 the asses H7200 : and when we saw [H8799]   H369 that they were no where H935 , we came [H8799]   H8050 to Samuel.
H7586 And Saul's H1730 uncle H559 said [H8799]   H5046 , Tell [H8685]   H8050 me, I pray thee, what Samuel H559 said [H8804]   unto you.
H7586 And Saul H559 said [H8799]   H1730 unto his uncle H5046 , He told [H8689]   H5046 us plainly [H8687]   H860 that the asses H4672 were found [H8738]   H1697 . But of the matter H4410 of the kingdom H8050 , whereof Samuel H559 spake [H8804]   H5046 , he told [H8689]   him not.
H8050 And Samuel H6817 called [H8686]   H5971 the people H3068 together unto the LORD H4709 to Mizpeh;
H559 And said [H8799]   H1121 unto the children H3478 of Israel H559 , Thus saith [H8804]   H3068 the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel H5927 , I brought up [H8689]   H3478 Israel H4714 out of Egypt H5337 , and delivered [H8686]   H3027 you out of the hand H4714 of the Egyptians H3027 , and out of the hand H4467 of all kingdoms H3905 , and of them that oppressed [H8801]   you:
H3117 And ye have this day H3988 rejected [H8804]   H430 your God H3467 , who himself saved [H8688]   H7451 you out of all your adversities H6869 and your tribulations H559 ; and ye have said [H8799]   H7760 unto him, Nay, but set [H8799]   H4428 a king H3320 over us. Now therefore present [H8690]   H6440 yourselves before H3068 the LORD H7626 by your tribes H505 , and by your thousands.
H8050 And when Samuel H7626 had caused all the tribes H3478 of Israel H7126 to come near [H8686]   H7626 , the tribe H1144 of Benjamin H3920 was taken [H8735]  .
H7626 When he had caused the tribe H1144 of Benjamin H7126 to come near [H8686]   H4940 by their families H4940 , the family H4309 of Matri H3920 was taken [H8735]   H7586 , and Saul H1121 the son H7027 of Kish H3920 was taken [H8735]   H1245 : and when they sought [H8762]   H4672 him, he could not be found [H8738]  .
H7592 Therefore they enquired [H8799]   H3068 of the LORD H376 further, if the man H935 should yet come [H8804]   H1988 thither H3068 . And the LORD H559 answered [H8799]   H2244 , Behold, he hath hid [H8737]   H3627 himself among the stuff.
H7323 And they ran [H8799]   H3947 and fetched [H8799]   H3320 him thence: and when he stood [H8691]   H8432 among H5971 the people H1361 , he was higher [H8799]   H5971 than any of the people H7926 from his shoulders H4605 and upward.
H8050 And Samuel H559 said [H8799]   H5971 to all the people H7200 , See [H8804]   H3068 ye him whom the LORD H977 hath chosen [H8804]   H5971 , that there is none like him among all the people H5971 ? And all the people H7321 shouted [H8686]   H559 , and said [H8799]   H2421 , God save [H8799]   H4428 the king.
H8050 Then Samuel H1696 told [H8762]   H5971 the people H4941 the manner H4410 of the kingdom H3789 , and wrote [H8799]   H5612 it in a book H3240 , and laid it up [H8686]   H6440 before H3068 the LORD H8050 . And Samuel H7971 sent H5971 all the people H7971 away [H8762]   H376 , every man H1004 to his house.
H7586 And Saul H1980 also went [H8804]   H1004 home H1390 to Gibeah H3212 ; and there went [H8799]   H2428 with him a band of men H3820 , whose hearts H430 God H5060 had touched [H8804]  .
H1121 But the children H1100 of Belial H559 said [H8804]   H3467 , How shall this man save [H8686]   H959 us? And they despised [H8799]   H935 him, and brought [H8689]   H4503 him no presents H2790 . But he held his peace [H8688]  .
ERV(i) 1 Then Samuel took the vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not that the LORD hath anointed thee to be prince over his inheritance? 2 When thou art departed from me today, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel’s sepulchre, in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and taketh thought for you, saying, What shall I do for my son? 3 Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the oak of Tabor, and there shall meet thee there three men going up to God to Beth-el, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine: 4 and they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hand. 5 After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a timbrel, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall be prophesying: 6 and the spirit of the LORD will come mightily upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man. 7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee. 8 And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come unto thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do. 9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day. 10 And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a band of prophets met him; and the spirit of God came mightily upon him, and he prophesied among them. 11 And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied with the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets? 12 And one of the same place answered and said, And who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets? 13 And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place. 14 And Saul’s uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that they were not found, we came to Samuel. 15 And Saul’s uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you. 16 And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But concerning the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not. 17 And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpah; 18 and he said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all the kingdoms that oppressed you: 19 but ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saveth you out of all your calamities and your distresses; and ye have said unto him, [Nay], but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands. 20 So Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken. 21 And he brought the tribe of Benjamin near by their families, and the family of the Matrites was taken: and Saul the son of Kish was taken; but when they sought him, he could not be found. 22 Therefore they asked of the LORD further, Is there yet a man to come hither? And the LORD answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the stuff. 23 And they ran and fetched him thence; and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward. 24 And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king. 25 Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house. 26 And Saul also went to his house to Gibeah; and there went with him the host, whose hearts God had touched. 27 But certain sons of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no present. But he held his peace.
