Judges 18 In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.

1 H3117 In those days H4428 there was no king H3478 in Israel: H3117 and in those days H7626 the tribe H1839 of the Danites H1245 sought H5159 them an inheritance H3427 to dwell in; H3117 for unto that day H5159 their inheritance H5307 had not fallen H8432 unto them among H7626 the tribes H3478 of Israel.

2 H1121 And the children H1835 of Dan H7971 sent H4940 of their family H2568 five H582 men H7098 from their whole number, H1121 men H2428 of valor, H6881 from Zorah, H847 and from Eshtaol, H7270 to spy H776 out the land, H2713 and to search H559 it; and they said H3212 unto them, Go, H2713 search H776 the land. H935 And they came H2022 to the hill-country H669 of Ephraim, H1004 unto the house H4318 of Micah, H3885 and lodged there.

3 H1004 When they were by the house H4318 of Micah, H5234 they knew H6963 the voice H5288 of the young man H3881 the Levite; H5493 and they turned aside H559 thither, and said H935 unto him, Who brought H1988 thee hither? H6213 and what doest thou in this place? and what hast thou here?

4 H559 And he said H2090 unto them, Thus H2090 and thus H4318 hath Micah H6213 dealt H7936 with me, and he hath hired H3548 me, and I am become his priest.

5 H559 And they said H7592 unto him, Ask counsel, H430 we pray thee, of God, H3045 that we may know H1870 whether our way H1980 which we go H6743 shall be prosperous.

6 H3548 And the priest H559 said H3212 unto them, Go H7965 in peace: H5227 before H3068 Jehovah H1870 is your way H3212 wherein ye go.

7 H2568 Then the five H582 men H3212 departed, H935 and came H3919 to Laish, H7200 and saw H5971 the people H7130 that were therein, H3427 how they dwelt H983 in security, H4941 after the manner H6722 of the Sidonians, H8252 quiet H982 and secure; H776 for there was none in the land, H3423 possessing authority, H3637 that might put them to shame H1697 in anything, H7350 and they were far H6722 from the Sidonians, H1697 and had no dealings H120 with any man.

8 H935 And they came H251 unto their brethren H6881 to Zorah H847 and Eshtaol: H251 and their brethren H559 said unto them, What say ye?

9 H559 And they said, H6965 Arise, H5927 and let us go up H7200 against them; for we have seen H776 the land, H3966 and, behold, it is very H2896 good: H2814 and are ye still? H6101 be not slothful H3212 to go H935 and to enter H3423 in to possess H776 the land.

10 H935 When ye go, H935 ye shall come H5971 unto a people H982 secure, H776 and the land H7342 is large; H430 for God H5414 hath given H3027 it into your hand, H4725 a place H4270 where there is no want H1697 of anything H776 that is in the earth.

11 H5265 And there set H4940 forth from thence of the family H1839 of the Danites, H6881 out of Zorah H847 and out of Eshtaol, H8337 six H3967 hundred H376 men H2296 girt H3627 with weapons H4421 of war.

12 H5927 And they went up, H2583 and encamped H7157 in Kiriath-jearim, H3063 in Judah: H7121 wherefore they called H4725 that place H4265 Mahaneh-dan, H3117 unto this day; H310 behold, it is behind H7157 Kiriath-jearim.

13 H5674 And they passed H2022 thence unto the hill-country H669 of Ephraim, H935 and came H1004 unto the house H4318 of Micah.

14 H6030 Then answered H2568 the five H582 men H1980 that went H7270 to spy out H776 the country H3919 of Laish, H559 and said H251 unto their brethren, H3045 Do ye know H3426 that there is H1004 in these houses H646 an ephod, H8655 and teraphim, H6459 and a graven image, H4541 and a molten image? H3045 now therefore consider H6213 what ye have to do.

15 H5493 And they turned H935 aside thither, and came H1004 to the house H5288 of the young man H3881 the Levite, H1004 even unto the house H4318 of Micah, H7592 and asked him of his welfare.

16 H8337 And the six H3967 hundred H376 men H2296 girt H3627 with their weapons H4421 of war, H1121 who were of the children H1835 of Dan, H5324 stood H6607 by the entrance H8179 of the gate.

17 H2568 And the five H582 men H1980 that went H7270 to spy out H776 the land H5927 went up, H935 and came in H3947 thither, and took H6459 the graven image, H646 and the ephod, H8655 and the teraphim, H4541 and the molten image: H3548 and the priest H5324 stood H6607 by the entrance H8179 of the gate H8337 with the six H3967 hundred H376 men H2296 girt H3627 with weapons H4421 of war.

18 H935 And when these went H4318 into Micah's H1004 house, H3947 and fetched H6459 the graven image, H646 the ephod, H8655 and the teraphim, H4541 and the molten image, H3548 the priest H559 said H6213 unto them, What do ye?

19 H559 And they said H2790 unto him, Hold thy peace, H7760 lay H3027 thy hand H6310 upon thy mouth, H3212 and go H1961 with us, and be to us H1 a father H3548 and a priest: H2896 is it better H3548 for thee to be priest H1004 unto the house H259 of one H376 man, H3548 or to be priest H7626 unto a tribe H4940 and a family H3478 in Israel?

20 H3548 And the priest's H3820 heart H3190 was glad, H3947 and he took H646 the ephod, H8655 and the teraphim, H6459 and the graven image, H935 and went in H7130 the midst H5971 of the people.

21 H6437 So they turned H3212 and departed, H7760 and put H2945 the little ones H4735 and the cattle H3520 and the goods H6440 before them.

22 H7368 When they were a good way H1004 from the house H4318 of Micah, H582 the men H1004 that were in the houses H4318 near to Micah's H1004 house H2199 were gathered together, H1692 and overtook H1121 the children H1835 of Dan.

23 H7121 And they cried H1121 unto the children H1835 of Dan. H5437 And they turned H6440 their faces, H559 and said H4318 unto Micah, H2199 What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company?

24 H559 And he said, H3947 ye have taken away H430 my gods H6213 which I made, H3548 and the priest, H3212 and are gone away, H559 and what have I more? and how then say ye unto me, What aileth thee?

25 H1121 And the children H1835 of Dan H559 said H6963 unto him, Let not thy voice H8085 be heard H4751 among us, lest angry H582 fellows H6293 fall H622 upon you, and thou lose H5315 thy life, H5315 with the lives H1004 of thy household.

26 H1121 And the children H1835 of Dan H3212 went H1870 their way: H4318 and when Micah H7200 saw H2389 that they were too strong H6437 for him, he turned H7725 and went back H1004 unto his house.

27 H3947 And they took H4318 that which Micah H6213 had made, H3548 and the priest H935 whom he had, and came H3919 unto Laish, H5971 unto a people H8252 quiet H982 and secure, H5221 and smote H6310 them with the edge H2719 of the sword; H8313 and they burnt H5892 the city H784 with fire.

28 H5337 And there was no deliverer, H7350 because it was far H6721 from Sidon, H1697 and they had no dealings H120 with any man; H6010 and it was in the valley H1050 that lieth by Beth-rehob. H1129 And they built H5892 the city, H3427 and dwelt therein.

29 H7121 And they called H8034 the name H5892 of the city H1835 Dan, H8034 after the name H1835 of Dan H1 their father, H3205 who was born H3478 unto Israel: H199 howbeit H8034 the name H5892 of the city H3919 was Laish H7223 at the first.

30 H1121 And the children H1835 of Dan H6965 set up H6459 for themselves the graven image: H3083 and Jonathan, H1121 the son H1647 of Gershom, H1121 the son H4519 of Moses, H1121 he and his sons H3548 were priests H7626 to the tribe H1839 of the Danites H3117 until the day H1540 of the captivity H776 of the land.

31 H7760 So they set them up H4318 Micah's H6459 graven image H6213 which he made, H3117 all the time H1004 that the house H430 of God H7887 was in Shiloh.
