2 Samuel 20 And there happened to be there a base fellow, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: and he blew the trumpet, and said, We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to his tents, O Israel.

1 H7122 And there happened H1100 to be there a base H376 fellow, H8034 whose name H7652 was Sheba, H1121 the son H1075 of Bichri, H1145 a Benjamite: H8628 and he blew H7782 the trumpet, H559 and said, H2506 We have no portion H1732 in David, H5159 neither have we inheritance H1121 in the son H3448 of Jesse: H376 every H376 man H168 to his tents, H3478 O Israel.

2 H376 So all the men H3478 of Israel H5927 went up H310 from following H1732 David, H310 and followed H7652 Sheba H1121 the son H1075 of Bichri; H376 but the men H3063 of Judah H1692 clave H4428 unto their king, H3383 from the Jordan H3389 even to Jerusalem.

3 H1732 And David H935 came H1004 to his house H3389 at Jerusalem; H4428 and the king H3947 took H6235 the ten H802 women H6370 his concubines, H3240 whom he had left H8104 to keep H1004 the house, H5414 and put H4931 them in ward, H3557 and provided them with sustenance, H935 but went not in H6887 unto them. So they were shut up H3117 unto the day H4191 of their death, H2424 living H491 in widowhood.

4 H559 Then said H4428 the king H6021 to Amasa, H2199 Call H376 me the men H3063 of Judah H7969 together within three H3117 days, H5975 and be thou here present.

5 H6021 So Amasa H3212 went H2199 to call H3063 the men of Judah H309 together; but he tarried longer H4150 than the set time H3259 which he had appointed him.

6 H1732 And David H559 said H52 to Abishai, H7652 Now will Sheba H1121 the son H1075 of Bichri H3415 do us more harm H53 than did Absalom: H3947 take H113 thou thy lord's H5650 servants, H7291 and pursue H310 after H4672 him, lest he get H1219 him fortified H5892 cities, H5337 and escape H5869 out of our sight.

7 H3318 And there went out H310 after H3097 him Joab's H582 men, H3774 and the Cherethites H6432 and the Pelethites, H1368 and all the mighty men; H3318 and they went out H3389 of Jerusalem, H7291 to pursue H310 after H7652 Sheba H1121 the son H1075 of Bichri.

8 H1419 When they were at the great H68 stone H1391 which is in Gibeon, H6021 Amasa H935 came H6440 to meet H3097 them. And Joab H2296 was girded H4055 with his apparel H3830 of war that he had put on, H2289 and thereon was a girdle H2719 with a sword H6775 fastened H4975 upon his loins H8593 in the sheath H3318 thereof; and as he went forth H3318 it fell out.

9 H3097 And Joab H559 said H6021 to Amasa, H7965 Is it well H251 with thee, my brother? H3097 And Joab H270 took H6021 Amasa H2206 by the beard H3225 with his right H3027 hand H5401 to kiss him.

10 H6021 But Amasa H8104 took no heed H2719 to the sword H3097 that was in Joab's H3027 hand: H5221 so he smote H2570 him therewith in the body, H8210 and shed out H4578 his bowels H776 to the ground, H8138 and struck him not again; H4191 and he died. H3097 And Joab H52 and Abishai H251 his brother H7291 pursued H310 after H7652 Sheba H1121 the son H1075 of Bichri.

11 H5975 And there stood H376 by him one H3097 of Joab's H5288 young men, H559 and said, H4310 He H2654 that favoreth H3097 Joab, H1732 and he that is for David, H310 let him follow H3097 Joab.

12 H6021 And Amasa H1556 lay wallowing H1818 in his blood H8432 in the midst H4546 of the highway. H376 And when the man H7200 saw H5971 that all the people H5975 stood still, H5437 he carried H6021 Amasa H4546 out of the highway H7704 into the field, H7993 and cast H899 a garment H7200 over him, when he saw H935 that every one that came H5975 by him stood still.

13 H3014 When he was removed H4546 out of the highway, H376 all the people H5674 went on H310 after H3097 Joab, H7291 to pursue H310 after H7652 Sheba H1121 the son H1075 of Bichri.

14 H5674 And he went H7626 through all the tribes H3478 of Israel H59 unto Abel, H1038 and to Beth-maacah, H1276 and all the Berites: H6950 and they were gathered together, H935 and went H310 also after him.

15 H935 And they came H6696 and besieged H59 him in Abel H1038 of Beth-maacah, H8210 and they cast up H5550 a mound H5892 against the city, H5975 and it stood H2426 against the rampart; H5971 and all the people H3097 that were with Joab H7843 battered H2346 the wall, H5307 to throw it down.

16 H7121 Then cried H2450 a wise H802 woman H5892 out of the city, H8085 Hear, H8085 hear; H559 say, H3097 I pray you, unto Joab, H7126 Come near H1696 hither, that I may speak with thee.

17 H7126 And he came near H802 unto her; and the woman H559 said, H3097 Art thou Joab? H559 And he answered, H559 I am. Then she said H8085 unto him, Hear H1697 the words H519 of thy handmaid. H559 And he answered, H8085 I do hear.

18 H559 Then she spake, H559 saying, H1696 They were wont H1696 to speak H7223 in old time, H559 saying, H7592 They shall surely H7592 ask H59 counsel at Abel: H8552 and so they ended the matter.

19 H7999 I am of them that are peaceable H539 and faithful H3478 in Israel: H1245 thou seekest H4191 to destroy H5892 a city H517 and a mother H3478 in Israel: H1104 why wilt thou swallow up H5159 the inheritance H3068 of Jehovah?

20 H3097 And Joab H6030 answered H559 and said, H2486 Far be it, H2486 far be it H1104 from me, that I should swallow up H7843 or destroy.

21 H1697 The matter H376 is not so: but a man H2022 of the hill-country H669 of Ephraim, H7652 Sheba H1121 the son H1075 of Bichri H8034 by name, H5375 hath lifted up H3027 his hand H4428 against the king, H1732 even against David; H5414 deliver H3212 him only, and I will depart H5892 from the city. H802 And the woman H559 said H3097 unto Joab, H7218 Behold, his head H7993 shall be thrown H1157 to thee over H2346 the wall.

22 H802 Then the woman H935 went H5971 unto all the people H2451 in her wisdom. H3772 And they cut off H7218 the head H7652 of Sheba H1121 the son H1075 of Bichri, H7993 and threw H3097 it out to Joab. H8628 And he blew H7782 the trumpet, H6327 and they were dispersed H5892 from the city, H376 every man H168 to his tent. H3097 And Joab H7725 returned H3389 to Jerusalem H4428 unto the king.

23 H3097 Now Joab H6635 was over all the host H3478 of Israel; H1141 and Benaiah H1121 the son H3077 of Jehoiada H3774 was over the Cherethites H6432 and over the Pelethites;

24 H151 and Adoram H4522 was over the men subject to taskwork; H3092 and Jehoshaphat H1121 the son H286 of Ahilud H2142 was the recorder;

25 H7864 and Sheva H5608 was scribe; H6659 and Zadok H54 and Abiathar H3548 were priests;

26 H5896 and also Ira H2972 the Jairite H3548 was chief minister H1732 unto David.
