  13 H4428 And the king H1121 of the children H5983 of Ammon H559 [H8799] answered H4397 to the messengers H3316 of Jephthah H3478 , Because Israel H3947 [H8804] took away H776 my land H5927 [H8800] , when they came H4714 out of Egypt H769 , from Arnon H2999 even to Jabbok H3383 , and to Jordan H7725 [H8685] : now therefore restore those lands again H7965 peaceably.
  14 H3316 And Jephthah H7971 [H8799] sent H4397 messengers H3254 [H8686] again H4428 to the king H1121 of the children H5983 of Ammon:
  15 H559 [H8799] And said H559 [H8804] to him, Thus saith H3316 Jephthah H3478 , Israel H3947 [H8804] took not away H776 the land H4124 of Moab H776 , nor the land H1121 of the children H5983 of Ammon:
  16 H3478 But when Israel H5927 [H8800] came up H4714 from Egypt H3212 [H8799] , and walked H4057 through the wilderness H5488 to the Red H3220 sea H935 [H8799] , and came H6946 to Kadesh;
  17 H3478 Then Israel H7971 [H8799] sent H4397 messengers H4428 to the king H123 of Edom H559 [H8800] , saying H5674 [H8799] , Let me, I pray thee, pass through H776 thy land H4428 : but the king H123 of Edom H8085 [H8804] would not hearken H7971 [H8804] to it. And in like manner they sent H4428 to the king H4124 of Moab H14 [H8804] : but he would H3478 not consent: and Israel H3427 [H8799] abode H6946 in Kadesh.
  18 H3212 [H8799] Then they went along H4057 through the wilderness H5437 [H8799] , and went around H776 the land H123 of Edom H776 , and the land H4124 of Moab H935 [H8799] , and came H4217 H8121 by the east side H776 of the land H4124 of Moab H2583 [H8799] , and encamped H5676 on the other side H769 of Arnon H935 [H8804] , but came H1366 not within the border H4124 of Moab H769 : for Arnon H1366 was the border H4124 of Moab.
  19 H3478 And Israel H7971 [H8799] sent H4397 messengers H5511 to Sihon H4428 king H567 of the Amorites H4428 , the king H2809 of Heshbon H3478 ; and Israel H559 [H8799] said H5674 [H8799] to him, Let us pass H776 , we pray thee, through thy land H5704 to H4725 my place.
  20 H5511 But Sihon H539 [H8689] trusted H3478 not Israel H5674 [H8800] to pass H1366 through his land H5511 : but Sihon H622 0 gathered H5971 all his people H622 [H8799] together H2583 [H8799] , and encamped H3096 in Jahaz H3898 [H8735] , and fought H3478 against Israel.
  21 H3068 And the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel H5414 [H8799] delivered H5511 Sihon H5971 and all his people H3027 into the hand H3478 of Israel H5221 [H8686] , and they smote H3478 them: so Israel H3423 [H8799] possessed H776 all the land H567 of the Amorites H3427 [H8802] , the inhabitants H776 of that country.
  22 H3423 [H8799] And they possessed H1366 all the land H567 of the Amorites H769 , from Arnon H2999 even to Jabbok H4057 , and from the wilderness H3383 even to Jordan.
  23 H3068 So now the LORD H430 God H3478 of Israel H3423 [H8689] hath dispossessed H567 the Amorites H6440 from before H5971 his people H3478 Israel H3423 [H8799] , and shouldest thou possess it?
  24 H3423 [H8799] Wilt not thou possess H3645 that which Chemosh H430 thy god H3423 [H8686] giveth thee to possess H3068 ? So whomever the LORD H430 our God H3423 [H8689] shall drive out H6440 from before H3423 [H8799] us, them will we possess.
  25 H2896 And now art thou any thing better H1111 than Balak H1121 the son H6834 of Zippor H4428 , king H4124 of Moab H7378 [H8800] ? did he ever H7378 [H8804] strive H3478 against Israel H3898 [H8736] , or did he ever H3898 [H8738] fight against them,
  26 H3478 While Israel H3427 [H8800] dwelt H2809 in Heshbon H1323 and her towns H6177 , and in Aroer H1323 and her towns H5892 , and in all the cities H3027 that are along by the banks H769 of Arnon H7969 , three H3967 hundred H8141 years H5337 [H8689] ? why therefore did ye not recover H6256 them within that time?
  27 H2398 [H8804] Therefore I have not sinned H6213 H853 [H8802] against thee, but thou doest H7451 me wrong H3898 [H8736] to war H3068 against me: the LORD H8199 [H8802] the Judge H8199 [H8799] be judge H3117 this day H1121 between the children H3478 of Israel H1121 and the children H5983 of Ammon.
  28 H4428 But the king H1121 of the children H5983 of Ammon H8085 [H8804] hearkened H1697 not to the words H3316 of Jephthah H7971 [H8804] which he sent him.
  29 H7307 Then the Spirit H3068 of the LORD H3316 came upon Jephthah H5674 [H8799] , and he passed over H1568 Gilead H4519 , and Manasseh H5674 [H8799] , and passed over H4708 Mizpeh H1568 of Gilead H4708 , and from Mizpeh H1568 of Gilead H5674 [H8804] he passed over H1121 to the children H5983 of Ammon.
  30 H3316 And Jephthah H5087 [H8799] vowed H5088 a vow H3068 to the LORD H559 [H8799] , and said H5414 [H8800] , If thou shalt without fail H5414 [H8799] deliver H1121 the children H5983 of Ammon H3027 into my hands,
  31 H3318 [H8802] Then it shall be, that whatever H3318 [H8799] cometh out H1817 of the doors H1004 of my house H7125 [H8800] to meet H7725 [H8800] me, when I return H7965 in peace H1121 from the children H5983 of Ammon H3068 , shall surely be the LORD'S H5927 [H8689] , and I will offer it H5930 for a burnt offering.
  32 H3316 So Jephthah H5674 [H8799] passed over H1121 to the children H5983 of Ammon H3898 [H8736] to fight H3068 against them; and the LORD H5414 [H8799] delivered H3027 them into his hands.
  33 H5221 [H8686] And he smote H6177 them from Aroer H935 [H8800] , even till thou comest H4511 to Minnith H6242 , even twenty H5892 cities H58 , and to the plain H3754 H64 [H8677] of the vineyards H3966 , with a very H1419 great H4347 slaughter H1121 . Thus the children H5983 of Ammon H3665 [H8735] were subdued H6440 before H1121 the children H3478 of Israel.
  34 H3316 And Jephthah H935 [H8799] came H4709 to Mizpeh H1004 to his house H1323 , and, behold, his daughter H3318 [H8802] came out H7125 [H8800] to meet H8596 him with timbrels H4246 and with dances H3173 : and she was his only child H1121 ; beside her he had neither son H176 nor H1323 daughter.
  35 H7200 [H8800] And it came to pass, when he saw H7167 [H8799] her, that he tore H899 his clothes H559 [H8799] , and said H162 , Alas H1323 , my daughter H3766 0 ! thou hast brought H3766 [H8689] me very H3766 [H8687] low H5916 [H8802] , and thou art one of them that trouble H6475 [H8804] me: for I have opened H6310 my mouth H3068 to the LORD H3201 [H8799] , and I cannot H7725 [H8800] go back.
  36 H559 [H8799] And she said H1 to him, My father H6475 [H8804] , if thou hast opened H6310 thy mouth H3068 to the LORD H6213 [H8798] , do H834 to me according to that which H3318 [H8804] hath proceeded H6310 out of thy mouth H310 ; forasmuch H3068 as the LORD H6213 [H8804] hath taken H5360 vengeance H341 [H8802] for thee of thy enemies H1121 , even of the children H5983 of Ammon.
  37 H559 [H8799] And she said H1 to her father H1697 , Let this thing H6213 [H8735] be done H7503 [H8685] for me: let me alone H8147 two H2320 months H3212 [H8799] , that I may go up H3381 [H8804] and down H2022 upon the mountains H1058 [H8799] , and bewail H1331 my virginity H7464 H7474 [H8675] , I and my companions.
  38 H559 [H8799] And he said H3212 [H8798] , Go H7971 [H8799] . And he sent her away H8147 for two H2320 months H3212 [H8799] : and she went H7464 with her companions H1058 [H8799] , and bewailed H1331 her virginity H2022 upon the mountains.
  39 H7093 And it came to pass at the end H8147 of two H2320 months H7725 [H8799] , that she returned H1 to her father H6213 [H8799] , who did H5088 with her according to his vow H5087 [H8804] which he had vowed H3045 [H8804] : and she knew H376 no man H2706 . And it was a custom H3478 in Israel,
  40 H1323 That the daughters H3478 of Israel H3212 [H8799] went H3117 yearly H8567 [H8763] to lament H1323 the daughter H3316 of Jephthah H1569 the Gileadite H702 four H3117 days H8141 in a year.
