Judges 11:12-40 And Jephthah sent messengers unto the king of the sons of Ammon, saying, What have you to do with me, that you are come against me to fight in my land?

12 H3316 And Jephthah H7971 sent H4397 messengers H4428 unto the king H1121 of the sons H5983 of Ammon, H559 saying, H935 What have you to do with me, that you are come H3898 against me to fight H776 in my land?

13 H4428 And the king H1121 of the sons H5983 of Ammon H559 answered H4397 unto the messengers H3316 of Jephthah, H3478 Because Israel H3947 took away H776 my land, H5927 when they came up H4714 out of Egypt, H769 from Arnon H2999 even unto Jabbok, H3383 and unto Jordan: H7725 now therefore restore those lands again H7965 peaceably.

14 H3316 And Jephthah H7971 sent H4397 messengers H3254 again H4428 unto the king H1121 of the sons H5983 of Ammon:

15 H559 And said H559 unto him, Thus says H3316 Jephthah, H3478 Israel H3947 took not away H776 the land H4124 of Moab, H776 nor the land H1121 of the sons H5983 of Ammon:

16 H3478 But when Israel H5927 came up H4714 from Egypt, H3212 and walked H4057 through the wilderness H5488 unto the Red H3220 sea, H935 and came H6946 to Kadesh;

17 H3478 Then Israel H7971 sent H4397 messengers H4428 unto the king H123 of Edom, H559 saying, H5674 Let me, I pray you, pass through H776 your land: H4428 but the king H123 of Edom H8085 would not listen H7971 thereto. And in like manner they sent H4428 unto the king H4124 of Moab: H14 but he would H3478 not consent: and Israel H3427 lived H6946 in Kadesh.

18 H3212 Then they went along H4057 through the wilderness, H5437 and compassed H776 the land H123 of Edom, H776 and the land H4124 of Moab, H935 and came H4217 by the east side H776 of the land H4124 of Moab, H2583 and pitched H5676 on the other side H769 of Arnon, H935 but came H1366 not inside the border H4124 of Moab: H769 for Arnon H1366 was the border H4124 of Moab.

19 H3478 And Israel H7971 sent H4397 messengers H5511 unto Sihon H4428 king H567 of the Amorites, H4428 the king H2809 of Heshbon; H3478 and Israel H559 said H5674 unto him, Let us pass, H776 we pray you, through your land H5704 into H4725 my place.

20 H5511 But Sihon H539 trusted H3478 not Israel H5674 to pass H1366 through his coast: H5511 but Sihon H622 gathered H5971 all his people H622 together, H2583 and pitched H3096 in Jahaz, H3898 and fought H3478 against Israel.

21 H3068 And the Lord H430 God H3478 of Israel H5414 delivered H5511 Sihon H5971 and all his people H3027 into the hand H3478 of Israel, H5221 and they struck H3478 them: so Israel H3423 possessed H776 all the land H567 of the Amorites, H3427 the inhabitants H776 of that country.

22 H3423 And they possessed H1366 all the coasts H567 of the Amorites, H769 from Arnon H2999 even unto Jabbok, H4057 and from the wilderness H3383 even unto Jordan.

23 H3068 So now the Lord H430 God H3478 of Israel H3423 has dispossessed H567 the Amorites H6440 from before H5971 his people H3478 Israel, H3423 and should you possess it?

24 H3423 Will not you possess H3645 that which Chemosh H430 your god H3423 gives you to possess? H3068 So whomever the Lord H430 our God H3423 shall drive out H6440 from before H3423 us, them will we possess.

25 H2896 And now are you any thing better H1111 than Balak H1121 the son H6834 of Zippor, H4428 king H4124 of Moab? H7378 did he ever H7378 argue H3478 against Israel, H3898 or did he ever H3898 fight against them,

26 H3478 While Israel H3427 lived H2809 in Heshbon H1323 and her towns, H6177 and in Aroer H1323 and her towns, H5892 and in all the cities H3027 that be along by the coasts H769 of Arnon, H7969 three H3967 hundred H8141 years? H5337 why therefore did you not recover H6256 them inside that time?

27 H2398 Why I have not sinned H6213 against you, but you do H7451 me wrong H3898 to war H3068 against me: the Lord H8199 the Judge H8199 be judge H3117 this day H1121 between the sons H3478 of Israel H1121 and the sons H5983 of Ammon.

28 H4428 But the king H1121 of the sons H5983 of Ammon H8085 listened H1697 not unto the words H3316 of Jephthah H7971 which he sent him.

29 H7307 Then the Spirit H3068 of the Lord H3316 came upon Jephthah, H5674 and he passed over H1568 Gilead, H4519 and Manasseh, H5674 and passed over H4708 Mizpeh H1568 of Gilead, H4708 and from Mizpeh H1568 of Gilead H5674 he passed over H1121 unto the sons H5983 of Ammon.

30 H3316 And Jephthah H5087 vowed H5088 a vow H3068 unto the Lord, H559 and said, H5414 If you shall outside fail H5414 deliver H1121 the sons H5983 of Ammon H3027 into my hands,

31 H3318 Then it shall be, that whatever H3318 comes forth H1817 of the doors H1004 of my house H7125 to meet H7725 me, when I return H7965 in peace H1121 from the sons H5983 of Ammon, H3068 shall surely be the Lord's, H5927 and I will offer it up H5930 for a burnt offering.

32 H3316 So Jephthah H5674 passed over H1121 unto the sons H5983 of Ammon H3898 to fight H3068 against them; and the Lord H5414 delivered H3027 them into his hands.

33 H5221 And he struck H6177 them from Aroer, H935 even until you come H4511 to Minnith, H6242 even twenty H5892 cities, H58 and unto the plain H3754 of the vineyards, H3966 with a very H1419 great H4347 slaughter. H1121 Thus the sons H5983 of Ammon H3665 were subdued H6440 before H1121 the sons H3478 of Israel.

34 H3316 And Jephthah H935 came H4709 to Mizpeh H1004 unto his house, H1323 and, behold, his daughter H3318 came out H7125 to meet H8596 him with tambourines H4246 and with dances: H3173 and she was his only child; H1121 beside her he had neither son H176 nor H1323 daughter.

35 H7200 And it came to pass, when he saw H7167 her, that he tore H899 his clothes, H559 and said, H162 Alas, H1323 my daughter! H3766 you have brought H3766 me very H3766 low, H5916 and you are one of them that trouble H6475 me: for I have opened H6310 my mouth H3068 unto the Lord, H3201 and I cannot H7725 go back.

36 H559 And she said H1 unto him, My father, H6475 if you have opened H6310 your mouth H3068 unto the Lord, H6213 do H834 to me according to that which H3318 has proceeded H6310 out of your mouth; H310 forasmuch H3068 as the Lord H6213 has taken H5360 vengeance H341 for you of your enemies, H1121 even of the sons H5983 of Ammon.

37 H559 And she said H1 unto her father, H1697 Let this thing H6213 be done H7503 for me: let me alone H8147 two H2320 months, H3212 that I may go up H3381 and down H2022 upon the mountains, H1058 and bewail H1331 my virginity, H7464 I and my fellows.

38 H559 And he said, H3212 Go. H7971 And he sent her away H8147 for two H2320 months: H3212 and she went H7464 with her companions, H1058 and bewailed H1331 her virginity H2022 upon the mountains.

39 H7093 And it came to pass at the end H8147 of two H2320 months, H7725 that she returned H1 unto her father, H6213 who did H5088 with her according to his vow H5087 which he had vowed: H3045 and she knew H376 no man. H2706 And it was a custom H3478 in Israel,

40 H1323 That the daughters H3478 of Israel H3212 went H3117 yearly H8567 to lament H1323 the daughter H3316 of Jephthah H1569 the Gileadite H702 four H3117 days H8141 in a year.
