H8050 And it came to pass, when Samuel H2204 was old, H7760 that he made H1121 his sons H8199 judges H3478 over Israel.
H8034 Now the name H1121 of his firstborn H3100 was Joel; H8034 and the name H4932 of his second, H29 Abiah: H8199 they were judges H884 in Beer–sheba.
H1121 And his sons H1980 walked H1870 not in his ways, H5186 but turned aside H310 after H1215 lucre, H3947 and took H7810 bribes, H5186 and perverted H4941 judgment.
H2205 Then all the elders H3478 of Israel H6908 gathered themselves together, H935 and came H8050 to Samuel H7414 unto Ramah,
H559 And said H2204 unto him, Behold, you are old, H1121 and your sons H1980 walk H1870 not in your ways: H7760 now make H4428 us a king H8199 to judge H1471 us like all the nations.
H1697 But the thing H3415 displeased H8050 Samuel, H559 when they said, H5414 Give H4428 us a king H8199 to judge H8050 us. And Samuel H6419 prayed H3068 unto the Lord.
H3068 And the Lord H559 said H8050 unto Samuel, H8085 Listen H6963 unto the voice H5971 of the people H559 in all that they say H3988 unto you: for they have not rejected H3988 you, but they have rejected H4427 me, that I should not reign over them.
H4639 According to all the works H6213 which they have done H3117 since the day H5927 that I brought them up H4714 out of Egypt H3117 even unto this day, H5800 with which they have forsaken H5647 me, and served H312 other H430 gods, H6213 so do they also unto you.
H8085 Now therefore listen H6963 unto their voice: H389 but H5749 yet protest H5749 solemnly H5046 unto them, and show H4941 them the manner H4428 of the king H4427 that shall reign over them.
H8050 And Samuel H559 told H1697 all the words H3068 of the Lord H5971 unto the people H7592 that asked H4428 of him a king.
H559 And he said, H4941 This will be the manner H4428 of the king H4427 that shall reign H3947 over you: He will take H1121 your sons, H7760 and appoint H4818 them for himself, for his chariots, H6571 and to be his horsemen; H7323 and some shall run H6440 before H4818 his chariots.
H7760 And he will appoint H8269 him captains H505 over thousands, H8269 and captains H2572 over fifties; H2790 and will set them to plow H2758 his ground, H7114 and to reap H7105 his harvest, H6213 and to make H3627 his instruments H4421 of war, H3627 and instruments H7393 of his chariots.
H3947 And he will take H1323 your daughters H7548 to be confectionaries, H2879 and to be cooks, H644 and to be bakers.
H3947 And he will take H7704 your fields, H3754 and your vineyards, H2132 and your oliveyards, H2896 even the best H5414 of them, and give H5650 them to his servants.
H6237 And he will take the tenth H2233 of your seed, H3754 and of your vineyards, H5414 and give H5631 to his officers, H5650 and to his servants.
H3947 And he will take H5650 your menservants, H8198 and your maidservants, H2896 and your best H970 young men, H2543 and your donkeys, H6213 and put H4399 them to his work.
H2199 And you shall cry out H3117 in that day H6440 because H4428 of your king H977 which you shall have chosen H3068 you; and the Lord H6030 will not hear H3117 you in that day.
H5971 Nevertheless the people H3985 refused H8085 to obey H6963 the voice H8050 of Samuel; H559 and they said, H4428 No; but we will have a king over us;
H1471 That we also may be like all the nations; H4428 and that our king H8199 may judge H3318 us, and go out H6440 before H3898 us, and fight H4421 our battles.
H8050 And Samuel H8085 heard H1697 all the words H5971 of the people, H1696 and he rehearsed H241 them in the ears H3068 of the Lord.
