1 Samuel 8

ECB(i) 1
And so be it, Shemu El ages; and he sets his sons judges over Yisra El: 2 and the name of his firstbirthed son is Yah El and the name of his second, Abi Yah - judges in Beer Sheba: 3 and his sons walk not in his ways, but spread after greed and take bribes and pervert judgment. 4
Then all the elders of Yisra El gather themselves together and come to Shemu El to Ramah, 5 and say to him, Behold, you age; and your sons walk not in your ways: now set us a sovereign to judge us - as all the goyim. 6 And the word is evil in the eyes of Shemu El, when they say, Give us a sovereign to judge us. - and Shemu El prays to Yah Veh. 7 And Yah Veh says to Shemu El, Hearken to the voice of the people in all they say to you: for they refuse not you; but they refuse me; - that I not reign over them. 8 According to all the works they worked since the day I ascended them from Misrayim even to this day; wherewith they forsake me and serve other elohim, thus also they work to you: 9 and now, hearken to their voice: only, in witnessing, witness to them; and tell them the judgment of the sovereign who reigns over them. 10 And Shemu El says all the words of Yah Veh to the people who ask a sovereign of him: 11 and he says, This becomes the judgment of the sovereign who reigns over you: He takes your sons and sets them for himself for his chariots and for his cavalry; at the face of his chariots; 12 and sets for himself governors over thousands and governors over fifties; and sets them to plough his ploughing and to harvest his harvest; and to work his instruments of war and instruments of his chariots: 13 and he takes your daughters for perfumers and for slaughterers and for bakers: 14 and he takes your fields and your vineyards and your oliveyards - the best of them and gives them to his servants: 15 and he takes the tithe of your seed and of your vineyards and gives to his eunuchs and to his servants: 16 and he takes your servants and your maids and your goodliest youths and your he burros and works them to his work: 17 he takes the tithe of your flock: and you become his servants: 18 and in that day you cry out at the face of your sovereign whom you choose: and in that day Yah Veh answers you not. 19 And the people refuse to hear the voice of Shemu El; and they say, No - a sovereign over us; 20 that we also become as all the goyim; and that our sovereign judge us and go from our face and fight our wars. 21 And Shemu El hears all the words of the people and he words them in the ears of Yah Veh. 22 And Yah Veh says to Shemu El, Hearken to their voice, to have a sovereign reign. And Shemu El says to the men of Yisra El, Go you every man to his city.
