A lăsat sfatul pe care i -l dăduseră bătrînii, ¹⁴ şi le -a vorbit astfel, după sfatul tinerilor:,,Tatăl meu v'a îngreuiat jugul, dar eu vi -l voi face şi mai greu; tatăl meu v'a bătut cu bice, dar eu vă voi bate cu scorpioane.`` ¹⁵ Astfel împăratul n'a ascultat pe popor; căci lucrul acesta a fost cîrmuit de Domnul, în vederea împlinirii cuvîntului, pe care -l spusese Domnul prin Ahia din Silo lui Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat. ¹⁶ Cînd a văzut tot Israelul că împăratul nu -l ascultă, poporul a răspuns împăratului:,,Ce parte avem noi cu David? Noi n'avem moştenire cu fiul lui Isai! La corturile tale, Israele! Acum vezi-ţi de casă, Davide!`` Şi Israel s'a dus în corturile lui.

Ukrainian⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹³ І цар жорстоко відповів народові, і відкинув пораду старших, що радили йому. ¹⁴ І він говорив до них за порадою тих молодиків, кажучи: Мій батько вчинив був тяжким ваше ярмо, а я додам до вашого ярма. Батько мій карав вас бичами, а я каратиму вас скорпіонами!... ¹⁵ І не послухався цар народу, бо причина була від Господа, щоб справдилося слово Його, яке говорив був Господь через шілонянина Ахійю до Єровоама, Неватового сина. ¹⁶ І побачив увесь Ізраїль, що цар не послухався їх, і народ відповів цареві, кажучи: Яка нам частина в Давиді? І спадщини нема нам у сині Єссея! До наметів своїх, о Ізраїлю! Познай тепер дім свій, Давиде!... І пішов Ізраїль до наметів своїх.
