KJV_Strongs(i)
H3290 And Jacob H1980 went [H8804]   H1870 on his way H4397 , and the angels H430 of God H6293 met [H8799]   him.
H3290 And when Jacob H7200 saw them [H8804]   H559 , he said [H8799]   H430 , This is God's H4264 host H7121 : and he called [H8799]   H8034 the name H4725 of that place H4266 Mahanaim.
H3290 And Jacob H7971 sent [H8799]   H4397 messengers H6440 before him H6215 to Esau H251 his brother H776 unto the land H8165 of Seir H7704 , the country H123 of Edom.
H6680 And he commanded [H8762]   H559 them, saying [H8800]   H559 , Thus shall ye speak [H8799]   H113 unto my lord H6215 Esau H5650 ; Thy servant H3290 Jacob H559 saith [H8804]   H1481 thus, I have sojourned [H8804]   H3837 with Laban H309 , and stayed there [H8799]   until now:
H7794 And I have oxen H2543 , and asses H6629 , flocks H5650 , and menservants H8198 , and womenservants H7971 : and I have sent [H8799]   H5046 to tell [H8687]   H113 my lord H4672 , that I may find [H8800]   H2580 grace H5869 in thy sight.
H4397 And the messengers H7725 returned [H8799]   H3290 to Jacob H559 , saying [H8800]   H935 , We came [H8804]   H251 to thy brother H6215 Esau H1980 , and also he cometh [H8802]   H7125 to meet thee [H8800]   H3967 , and four hundred H376 men with him.
H3290 Then Jacob H3966 was greatly H3372 afraid [H8799]   H3334 and distressed [H8799]   H2673 : and he divided [H8799]   H5971 the people H6629 that was with him, and the flocks H1241 , and herds H1581 , and the camels H8147 , into two H4264 bands;
H559 And said [H8799]   H6215 , If Esau H935 come [H8799]   H259 to the one H4264 company H5221 , and smite it [H8689]   H4264 , then the other company H7604 which is left [H8737]   H6413 shall escape.
H3290 And Jacob H559 said [H8799]   H430 , O God H1 of my father H85 Abraham H430 , and God H1 of my father H3327 Isaac H3068 , the LORD H559 which saidst [H8802]   H7725 unto me, Return [H8798]   H776 unto thy country H4138 , and to thy kindred H3190 , and I will deal well [H8686]   with thee:
H6994 I am not worthy of the least [H8804]   H2617 of all the mercies H571 , and of all the truth H6213 , which thou hast shewed [H8804]   H5650 unto thy servant H4731 ; for with my staff H5674 I passed over [H8804]   H3383 this Jordan H8147 ; and now I am become two H4264 bands.
H5337 Deliver me [H8685]   H3027 , I pray thee, from the hand H251 of my brother H3027 , from the hand H6215 of Esau H3373 : for I fear H935 him, lest he will come [H8799]   H5221 and smite me [H8689]   H517 , and the mother H5921 with H1121 the children.
H559 And thou saidst [H8804]   H3190 , I will surely [H8687]   H3190 do thee good [H8686]   H7760 , and make [H8804]   H2233 thy seed H2344 as the sand H3220 of the sea H5608 , which cannot be numbered [H8735]   H7230 for multitude.
H3885 And he lodged [H8799]   H3915 there that same night H3947 ; and took [H8799]   H935 of that which came [H8802]   H3027 to his hand H4503 a present H6215 for Esau H251 his brother;
H3967 Two hundred H5795 she goats H6242 , and twenty H8495 he goats H3967 , two hundred H7353 ewes H6242 , and twenty H352 rams,
H7970 Thirty H3243 milch [H8688]   H1581 camels H1121 with their colts H705 , forty H6510 kine H6235 , and ten H6499 bulls H6242 , twenty H860 she asses H6235 , and ten H5895 foals.
H5414 And he delivered [H8799]   H3027 them into the hand H5650 of his servants H5739 , every drove H559 by themselves; and said [H8799]   H5650 unto his servants H5674 , Pass over [H8798]   H6440 before me H7760 , and put [H8799]   H7305 a space H996 betwixt H5739 drove H996 and H5739 drove.
H6680 And he commanded [H8762]   H7223 the foremost H559 , saying [H8800]   H6215 , When Esau H251 my brother H6298 meeteth thee [H8799]   H7592 , and asketh thee [H8804]   H559 , saying [H8800]   H3212 , Whose art thou? and whither goest [H8799]   H6440 thou? and whose are these before thee?
H559 Then thou shalt say [H8804]   H5650 , They be thy servant H3290 Jacob's H4503 ; it is a present H7971 sent [H8803]   H113 unto my lord H6215 Esau H310 : and, behold, also he is behind us.
H1571 And so H6680 commanded he [H8762]   H8145 the second H7992 , and the third H1980 , and all that followed [H8802]   H310   H5739 the droves H559 , saying [H8800]   H1697 , On this manner H1696 shall ye speak [H8762]   H6215 unto Esau H4672 , when ye find [H8800]   him.
H559 And say ye [H8804]   H1571 moreover H5650 , Behold, thy servant H3290 Jacob H310 is behind us H559 . For he said [H8804]   H3722 , I will appease [H8762]   H6440 him H4503 with the present H1980 that goeth [H8802]   H6440 before me H310 , and afterward H7200 I will see [H8799]   H6440 his face H5375 ; peradventure he will accept [H8799]   H6440 of me.
H5674 So went H4503 the present H5674 over [H8799]   H6440 before him H3885 : and himself lodged [H8804]   H3915 that night H4264 in the company.
H6965 And he rose up [H8799]   H3915 that night H3947 , and took [H8799]   H8147 his two H802 wives H8147 , and his two H8198 womenservants H6240 , and his eleven H259   H3206 sons H5674 , and passed over [H8799]   H4569 the ford H2999 Jabbok.
H3947 And he took them [H8799]   H5674 , and sent them over [H8686]   H5158 the brook H5674 , and sent over [H8686]   that he had.
H3290 And Jacob H3498 was left [H8735]   H79 alone; and there wrestled [H8735]   H376 a man H5927 with him until the breaking [H8800]   H7837 of the day.
H7200 And when he saw [H8799]   H3201 that he prevailed [H8804]   H5060 not against him, he touched [H8799]   H3409 the hollow of his thigh H3709 ; and the hollow H3290 of Jacob's H3409 thigh H3363 was out of joint [H8799]   H79 , as he wrestled [H8736]   with him.
H559 And he said [H8799]   H7971 , Let me go [H8761]   H7837 , for the day H5927 breaketh [H8804]   H559 . And he said [H8799]   H7971 , I will not let thee go [H8762]   H518 , except H1288 thou bless [H8765]   me.
H559 And he said [H8799]   H8034 unto him, What is thy name H559 ? And he said [H8799]   H3290 , Jacob.
H559 And he said [H8799]   H8034 , Thy name H559 shall be called [H8735]   H3290 no more Jacob H3478 , but Israel H8280 : for as a prince hast thou power [H8804]   H430 with God H582 and with men H3201 , and hast prevailed [H8799]  .
H3290 And Jacob H7592 asked [H8799]   H559 him, and said [H8799]   H5046 , Tell [H8685]   H8034 me, I pray thee, thy name H559 . And he said [H8799]   H2088 , Wherefore is it H7592 that thou dost ask [H8799]   H8034 after my name H1288 ? And he blessed [H8762]   him there.
H3290 And Jacob H7121 called [H8799]   H8034 the name H4725 of the place H6439 Peniel H7200 : for I have seen [H8804]   H430 God H6440 face H6440 to face H5315 , and my life H5337 is preserved [H8735]  .
H5674 And as he passed over [H8804]   H6439 Penuel H8121 the sun H2224 rose [H8799]   H6760 upon him, and he halted [H8802]   H3409 upon his thigh.
H1121 Therefore the children H3478 of Israel H398 eat [H8799]   H1517 not of the sinew H5384 which shrank H3709 , which is upon the hollow H3409 of the thigh H3117 , unto this day H5060 : because he touched [H8804]   H3709 the hollow H3290 of Jacob's H3409 thigh H1517 in the sinew H5384 that shrank.
KJV(i) 1 And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. 2 And when Jacob saw them, he said, This is God's host: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim. 3 And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom. 4 And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now: 5 And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight. 6 And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him. 7 Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands; 8 And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape. 9 And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee: 10 I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast showed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands. 11 Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children. 12 And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude. 13 And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother; 14 Two hundred she goats, and twenty he goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams, 15 Thirty milch camels with their colts, forty kine, and ten bulls, twenty she asses, and ten foals. 16 And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by themselves; and said unto his servants, Pass over before me, and put a space betwixt drove and drove. 17 And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither goest thou? and whose are these before thee? 18 Then thou shalt say, They be thy servant Jacob's; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us. 19 And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him. 20 And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me. 21 So went the present over before him: and himself lodged that night in the company. 22 And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok. 23 And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had. 24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. 25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. 26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. 27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. 28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. 29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. 30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. 31 And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh. 32 Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank.
