H7637 And when the seventh H2320 month H5060 was come [H8799]   H1121 , and the children H3478 of Israel H5892 were in the cities H5971 , the people H622 gathered themselves together [H8735]   H259 as one H376 man H3389 to Jerusalem.
H6965 Then stood up [H8799]   H3442 Jeshua H1121 the son H3136 of Jozadak H251 , and his brethren H3548 the priests H2216 , and Zerubbabel H1121 the son H7597 of Shealtiel H251 , and his brethren H1129 , and builded [H8799]   H4196 the altar H430 of the God H3478 of Israel H5927 , to offer [H8687]   H5930 burnt offerings H3789 thereon, as it is written [H8803]   H8451 in the law H4872 of Moses H376 the man H430 of God.
H3559 And they set [H8686]   H4196 the altar H4350 upon his bases H367 ; for fear H5971 was upon them because of the people H776 of those countries H5927 : and they offered [H8686]   H5930 burnt offerings H3068 thereon unto the LORD H5930 , even burnt offerings H1242 morning H6153 and evening.
H6213 They kept [H8799]   H2282 also the feast H5521 of tabernacles H3789 , as it is written [H8803]   H3117 , and offered the daily H3117   H5930 burnt offerings H4557 by number H4941 , according to the custom H1697 , as the duty H3117 of every day H3117 required;
H310 And afterward H8548 offered the continual H5930 burnt offering H2320 , both of the new moons H4150 , and of all the set feasts H3068 of the LORD H6942 that were consecrated [H8794]   H5068 , and of every one that willingly offered [H8693]   H5071 a freewill offering H3068 unto the LORD.
H259 From the first H3117 day H7637 of the seventh H2320 month H2490 began [H8689]   H5927 they to offer [H8687]   H5930 burnt offerings H3068 unto the LORD H3245 . But the foundation H1964 of the temple H3068 of the LORD H3245 was not yet laid [H8795]  .
H5414 They gave [H8799]   H3701 money H2672 also unto the masons [H8802]   H2796 , and to the carpenters H3978 ; and meat H4960 , and drink H8081 , and oil H6722 , unto them of Zidon H6876 , and to them of Tyre H935 , to bring [H8687]   H730 cedar H6086 trees H3844 from Lebanon H3220 to the sea H3305 of Joppa H7558 , according to the grant H3566 that they had of Cyrus H4428 king H6539 of Persia.
H8145 Now in the second H8141 year H935 of their coming [H8800]   H1004 unto the house H430 of God H3389 at Jerusalem H8145 , in the second H2320 month H2490 , began [H8689]   H2216 Zerubbabel H1121 the son H7597 of Shealtiel H3442 , and Jeshua H1121 the son H3136 of Jozadak H7605 , and the remnant H251 of their brethren H3548 the priests H3881 and the Levites H935 , and all they that were come out [H8802]   H7628 of the captivity H3389 unto Jerusalem H5975 ; and appointed [H8686]   H3881 the Levites H6242 , from twenty H8141 years H1121 old H4605 and upward H5329 , to set forward [H8763]   H4399 the work H1004 of the house H3068 of the LORD.
H5975 Then stood [H8799]   H3442 Jeshua H1121 with his sons H251 and his brethren H6934 , Kadmiel H1121 and his sons H1121 , the sons H3063 of Judah H259 , together H5329 , to set forward [H8763]   H6213 the workmen [H8802]   H4399   H1004 in the house H430 of God H1121 : the sons H2582 of Henadad H1121 , with their sons H251 and their brethren H3881 the Levites.
H1129 And when the builders [H8802]   H3245 laid the foundation [H8765]   H1964 of the temple H3068 of the LORD H5975 , they set [H8686]   H3548 the priests H3847 in their apparel [H8794]   H2689 with trumpets H3881 , and the Levites H1121 the sons H623 of Asaph H4700 with cymbals H1984 , to praise [H8763]   H3068 the LORD H3027 , after the ordinance H1732 of David H4428 king H3478 of Israel.
H6030 And they sang together by course [H8799]   H1984 in praising [H8763]   H3034 and giving thanks [H8687]   H3068 unto the LORD H2896 ; because he is good H2617 , for his mercy H5769 endureth for ever H3478 toward Israel H5971 . And all the people H7321 shouted [H8689]   H1419 with a great H8643 shout H1984 , when they praised [H8763]   H3068 the LORD H3245 , because the foundation H1004 of the house H3068 of the LORD H3245 was laid [H8717]  .
H7227 But many H3548 of the priests H3881 and Levites H7218 and chief H1 of the fathers H2205 , who were ancient men H7200 , that had seen [H8804]   H7223 the first H1004 house H3245 , when the foundation H1004 of this house H3245 was laid [H8800]   H5869 before their eyes H1058 , wept [H8802]   H1419 with a loud H6963 voice H7227 ; and many H8643 shouted H7311 aloud [H8687]   H8057 for joy:
H5971 So that the people H5234 could not discern [H8688]   H6963 the noise H8643 of the shout H8057 of joy H6963 from the noise H1065 of the weeping H5971 of the people H5971 : for the people H7321 shouted [H8688]   H1419 with a loud H8643 shout H6963 , and the noise H8085 was heard [H8738]   H7350 afar off.
ERV(i) 1 And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem. 2 Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God. 3 And they set the altar upon its base; for fear was upon them because of the people of the countries: and they offered burnt offerings thereon unto the LORD, even burnt offerings morning and evening. 4 And they kept the feast of tabernacles, as it is written, and [offered] the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the ordinance, as the duty of every day required; 5 and afterward the continual burnt offering, and [the offerings] of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of the LORD that were consecrated, and of every one that willingly offered a freewill offering unto the LORD. 6 From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the LORD: but the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid. 7 They gave money also unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and meat, and drink, and oil, unto them of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea, unto Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia. 8 Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to have the oversight of the work of the house of the LORD. 9 Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to have the oversight of the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren the Levites. 10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the LORD, after the order of David king of Israel. 11 And they sang one to another in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD, [saying], For he is good, for his mercy [endureth] for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. 12 But many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers’ [houses], the old men that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy: 13 so that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off.
