Judges 11:8-33 ויאמרו said זקני And the elders גלעד of Gilead אל unto יפתח Jephthah, לכן Therefore עתה thee now, שׁבנו we turn again אליך to והלכת that thou mayest go עמנו with ונלחמת us, and fight בבני against the children עמון of Ammon, והיית and be לנו לראשׁ our head לכל over all ישׁבי the inhabitants גלעד׃ of Gilead.

8 H559 ויאמרו said H2205 זקני And the elders H1568 גלעד of Gilead H413 אל unto H3316 יפתח Jephthah, H3651 לכן Therefore H6258 עתה thee now, H7725 שׁבנו we turn again H413 אליך to H1980 והלכת that thou mayest go H5973 עמנו with H3898 ונלחמת us, and fight H1121 בבני against the children H5983 עמון of Ammon, H1961 והיית and be H7218 לנו לראשׁ our head H3605 לכל over all H3427 ישׁבי the inhabitants H1568 גלעד׃ of Gilead.

9 H559 ויאמר said H3316 יפתח And Jephthah H413 אל unto H2205 זקני the elders H1568 גלעד of Gilead, H518 אם If H7725 משׁיבים H859 אתם ye H853 אותי H3898 להלחם to fight H1121 בבני against the children H5983 עמון of Ammon, H5414 ונתן deliver H3068 יהוה and the LORD H853 אותם H6440 לפני them before H595 אנכי me, shall I H1961 אהיה be H7218 לכם לראשׁ׃ your head?

10 H559 ויאמרו said H2205 זקני And the elders H1568 גלעד of Gilead H413 אל unto H3316 יפתח Jephthah, H3068 יהוה The LORD H1961 יהיה be H8085 שׁמע witness H996 בינותינו between H518 אם us, if H3808 לא not H1697 כדברך according to thy words. H3651 כן so H6213 נעשׂה׃ we do

11 H1980 וילך went H3316 יפתח Then Jephthah H5973 עם with H2205 זקני the elders H1568 גלעד of Gilead, H7760 וישׂימו made H5971 העם and the people H853 אותו H5921 עליהם over H7218 לראשׁ him head H7101 ולקצין and captain H1696 וידבר uttered H3316 יפתח them: and Jephthah H853 את H3605 כל all H1697 דבריו his words H6440 לפני before H3068 יהוה the LORD H4709 במצפה׃ in Mizpeh.

12 H7971 וישׁלח sent H3316 יפתח And Jephthah H4397 מלאכים messengers H413 אל unto H4428 מלך the king H1121 בני of the children H5983 עמון of Ammon, H559 לאמר saying, H4100 מה What H3588 לי ולך כי hast thou to do with me, that H935 באת thou art come H413 אלי against H3898 להלחם me to fight H776 בארצי׃ in my land?

13 H559 ויאמר answered H4428 מלך And the king H1121 בני of the children H5983 עמון of Ammon H413 אל unto H4397 מלאכי the messengers H3316 יפתח of Jephthah, H3588 כי Because H3947 לקח took away H3478 ישׂראל Israel H853 את H776 ארצי my land, H5927 בעלותו when they came up H4714 ממצרים H769 מארנון H5704 ועד even unto H2999 היבק Jabbok, H5704 ועד and unto H3383 הירדן Jordan: H6258 ועתה now H7725 השׁיבה H853 אתהן H7965 בשׁלום׃ peaceably.

14 H3254 ויוסף again H5750 עוד again H3316 יפתח And Jephthah H7971 וישׁלח sent H4397 מלאכים messengers H413 אל unto H4428 מלך the king H1121 בני of the children H5983 עמון׃ of Ammon:

15 H559 ויאמר And said H3541 לו כה unto him, Thus H559 אמר saith H3316 יפתח Jephthah, H3808 לא took not away H3947 לקח took not away H3478 ישׂראל Israel H853 את H776 ארץ the land H4124 מואב of Moab, H853 ואת H776 ארץ nor the land H1121 בני of the children H5983 עמון׃ of Ammon:

16 H3588 כי But H5927 בעלותם came up H4714 ממצרים H1980 וילך and walked H3478 ישׂראל when Israel H4057 במדבר through the wilderness H5704 עד unto H3220 ים sea, H5488 סוף the Red H935 ויבא and came H6946 קדשׁה׃ to Kadesh;

17 H7971 וישׁלח sent H3478 ישׂראל Then Israel H4397 מלאכים messengers H413 אל unto H4428 מלך the king H123 אדום of Edom, H559 לאמר saying, H5674 אעברה pass H4994 נא Let me, I pray thee, H776 בארצך through thy land: H3808 ולא would not H8085 שׁמע hearken H4428 מלך but the king H123 אדום of Edom H1571 וגם And in like manner H413 אל unto H4428 מלך the king H4124 מואב of Moab: H7971 שׁלח they sent H3808 ולא not H14 אבה but he would H3427 וישׁב abode H3478 ישׂראל and Israel H6946 בקדשׁ׃ in Kadesh.

18 H1980 וילך Then they went along H4057 במדבר through the wilderness, H5437 ויסב and compassed H853 את H776 ארץ the land H123 אדום of Edom, H853 ואת H776 ארץ and the land H4124 מואב of Moab, H935 ויבא and came H4217 ממזרח H8121 שׁמשׁ H776 לארץ of the land H4124 מואב of Moab, H2583 ויחנון and pitched H5676 בעבר on the other side H769 ארנון of Arnon, H3808 ולא not H935 באו but came H1366 בגבול within the border H4124 מואב of Moab: H3588 כי for H769 ארנון Arnon H1366 גבול the border H4124 מואב׃ of Moab.

19 H7971 וישׁלח sent H3478 ישׂראל And Israel H4397 מלאכים messengers H413 אל unto H5511 סיחון Sihon H4428 מלך king H567 האמרי of the Amorites, H4428 מלך the king H2809 חשׁבון of Heshbon; H559 ויאמר said H3478 לו ישׂראל and Israel H5674 נעברה unto him, Let us pass, H4994 נא we pray thee, H776 בארצך through thy land H5704 עד into H4725 מקומי׃ my place.

20 H3808 ולא not H539 האמין trusted H5511 סיחון But Sihon H853 את H3478 ישׂראל Israel H5674 עבר to pass H1366 בגבלו through his coast: H622 ויאסף H5511 סיחון but Sihon H853 את H3605 כל H5971 עמו H2583 ויחנו and pitched H3096 ביהצה in Jahaz, H3898 וילחם and fought H5973 עם against H3478 ישׂראל׃ Israel.

21 H5414 ויתן delivered H3068 יהוה And the LORD H430 אלהי God H3478 ישׂראל of Israel H853 את H5511 סיחון Sihon H853 ואת H3605 כל and all H5971 עמו his people H3027 ביד into the hand H3478 ישׂראל of Israel, H5221 ויכום and they smote H3423 ויירשׁ possessed H3478 ישׂראל them: so Israel H853 את H3605 כל all H776 ארץ the land H567 האמרי of the Amorites, H3427 יושׁב the inhabitants H776 הארץ country. H1931 ההיא׃ of that

22 H3423 ויירשׁו And they possessed H853 את H3605 כל all H1366 גבול the coasts H567 האמרי of the Amorites, H769 מארנון H5704 ועד even unto H2999 היבק Jabbok, H4480 ומן and from H4057 המדבר the wilderness H5704 ועד even unto H3383 הירדן׃ Jordan.

23 H6258 ועתה So now H3068 יהוה the LORD H430 אלהי God H3478 ישׂראל of Israel H3423 הורישׁ hath dispossessed H853 את H567 האמרי the Amorites H6440 מפני from before H5971 עמו his people H3478 ישׂראל Israel, H859 ואתה and shouldest thou H3423 תירשׁנו׃ possess

24 H3808 הלא Wilt not H853 את H834 אשׁר that which H3423 יורישׁך thou possess H3645 כמושׁ Chemosh H430 אלהיך thy god H853 אותו H3423 תירשׁ giveth thee to possess? H853 ואת H3605 כל H834 אשׁר H3423 הורישׁ shall drive out H3068 יהוה the LORD H430 אלהינו our God H6440 מפנינו from before H853 אותו H3423 נירשׁ׃ us, them will we possess.

25 H6258 ועתה And now H2896 הטוב any thing better H2896 טוב any thing better H859 אתה thou H1111 מבלק H1121 בן the son H6834 צפור of Zippor, H4428 מלך king H4124 מואב of Moab? H7378 הרוב did he ever strive H7378 רב did he ever strive H5973 עם against H3478 ישׂראל Israel, H518 אם or H3898 נלחם did he ever fight H3898 נלחם׃ did he ever fight

26 H3427 בשׁבת dwelt H3478 ישׂראל While Israel H2809 בחשׁבון in Heshbon H1323 ובבנותיה and her towns, H6177 ובערעור and in Aroer H1323 ובבנותיה and her towns, H3605 ובכל and in all H5892 הערים the cities H834 אשׁר that H5921 על along by H3027 ידי the coasts H769 ארנון of Arnon, H7969 שׁלשׁ three H3967 מאות hundred H8141 שׁנה years? H4069 ומדוע why H3808 לא therefore did ye not H5337 הצלתם recover H6256 בעת time? H1931 ההיא׃ within that

27 H595 ואנכי Wherefore I H3808 לא have not H2398 חטאתי sinned H859 לך ואתה against thee, but thou H6213 עשׂה doest H853 אתי H7451 רעה me wrong H3898 להלחם to war H8199 בי ישׁפט the Judge H3068 יהוה against me: the LORD H8199 השׁפט be judge H3117 היום this day H996 בין between H1121 בני the children H3478 ישׂראל of Israel H996 ובין H1121 בני and the children H5983 עמון׃ of Ammon.

28 H3808 ולא not H8085 שׁמע hearkened H4428 מלך Howbeit the king H1121 בני of the children H5983 עמון of Ammon H413 אל unto H1697 דברי the words H3316 יפתח of Jephthah H834 אשׁר which H7971 שׁלח he sent H413 אליו׃ he sent

29 H1961 ותהי came H5921 על upon H3316 יפתח Jephthah, H7307 רוח Then the Spirit H3068 יהוה of the LORD H5674 ויעבר and he passed over H853 את H1568 הגלעד Gilead, H853 ואת H4519 מנשׁה and Manasseh, H5674 ויעבר and passed over H853 את H4708 מצפה Mizpeh H1568 גלעד of Gilead, H4708 וממצפה H1568 גלעד of Gilead H5674 עבר he passed over H1121 בני the children H5983 עמון׃ of Ammon.

30 H5087 וידר vowed H3316 יפתח And Jephthah H5088 נדר a vow H3068 ליהוה unto the LORD, H559 ויאמר and said, H518 אם If H5414 נתון thou shalt without fail deliver H5414 תתן thou shalt without fail deliver H853 את H1121 בני the children H5983 עמון of Ammon H3027 בידי׃ into mine hands,

31 H1961 והיה Then it shall be, H3318 היוצא cometh forth H834 אשׁר that whatsoever H3318 יצא H1817 מדלתי of the doors H1004 ביתי of my house H7125 לקראתי to meet H7725 בשׁובי me, when I return H7965 בשׁלום in peace H1121 מבני from the children H5983 עמון of Ammon, H1961 והיה shall surely be H3068 ליהוה the LORD's, H5927 והעליתהו and I will offer it up H5930 עולה׃ for a burnt offering.

32 H5674 ויעבר passed over H3316 יפתח So Jephthah H413 אל unto H1121 בני the children H5983 עמון of Ammon H3898 להלחם to fight H5414 בם ויתנם delivered H3068 יהוה against them; and the LORD H3027 בידו׃ them into his hands.

33 H5221 ויכם And he smote H6177 מערוער H5704 ועד even till H935 בואך thou come H4511 מנית to Minnith, H6242 עשׂרים twenty H5892 עיר cities, H5704 ועד and unto H58 אבל the plain H3754 כרמים of the vineyards, H4347 מכה slaughter. H1419 גדולה great H3966 מאד with a very H3665 ויכנעו were subdued H1121 בני Thus the children H5983 עמון of Ammon H6440 מפני before H1121 בני the children H3478 ישׂראל׃ of Israel.
