KJV_Strongs(i)
H1697 And the word H8050 of Samuel H3478 came to all Israel H3478 . Now Israel H3318 went out [H8799]   H7125 against [H8800]   H6430 the Philistines H4421 to battle H2583 , and pitched [H8799]   H72 beside Ebenezer H6430 : and the Philistines H2583 pitched [H8804]   H663 in Aphek.
H6430 And the Philistines H6186 put themselves in array [H8799]   H7125 against [H8800]   H3478 Israel H5203 : and when they joined [H8799]   H4421 battle H3478 , Israel H5062 was smitten [H8735]   H6440 before H6430 the Philistines H5221 : and they slew [H8686]   H4634 of the army H7704 in the field H702 about four H505 thousand H376 men.
H5971 And when the people H935 were come [H8799]   H4264 into the camp H2205 , the elders H3478 of Israel H559 said [H8799]   H3068 , Wherefore hath the LORD H5062 smitten [H8804]   H3117 us to day H6440 before H6430 the Philistines H3947 ? Let us fetch [H8799]   H727 the ark H1285 of the covenant H3068 of the LORD H7887 out of Shiloh H935 unto us, that, when it cometh [H8799]   H7130 among H3467 us, it may save [H8686]   H3709 us out of the hand H341 of our enemies [H8802]  .
H5971 So the people H7971 sent [H8799]   H7887 to Shiloh H5375 , that they might bring [H8799]   H727 from thence the ark H1285 of the covenant H3068 of the LORD H6635 of hosts H3427 , which dwelleth [H8802]   H3742 between the cherubims H8147 : and the two H1121 sons H5941 of Eli H2652 , Hophni H6372 and Phinehas H727 , were there with the ark H1285 of the covenant H430 of God.
H727 And when the ark H1285 of the covenant H3068 of the LORD H935 came [H8800]   H4264 into the camp H3478 , all Israel H7321 shouted [H8686]   H1419 with a great H8643 shout H776 , so that the earth H1949 rang again [H8735]  .
H6430 And when the Philistines H8085 heard [H8799]   H6963 the noise H8643 of the shout H559 , they said [H8799]   H6963 , What meaneth the noise H1419 of this great H8643 shout H4264 in the camp H5680 of the Hebrews H3045 ? And they understood [H8799]   H727 that the ark H3068 of the LORD H935 was come [H8804]   H4264 into the camp.
H6430 And the Philistines H3372 were afraid [H8799]   H559 , for they said [H8804]   H430 , God H935 is come [H8804]   H4264 into the camp H559 . And they said [H8799]   H188 , Woe H865 unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore H8032  .
H188 Woe H5337 unto us! who shall deliver [H8686]   H3027 us out of the hand H117 of these mighty H430 Gods H430 ? these are the Gods H5221 that smote [H8688]   H4714 the Egyptians H4347 with all the plagues H4057 in the wilderness.
H2388 Be strong [H8690]   H1961 , and quit [H8798]   H582 yourselves like men H6430 , O ye Philistines H5647 , that ye be not servants [H8799]   H5680 unto the Hebrews H5647 , as they have been [H8804]   H1961 to you: quit [H8804]   H582 yourselves like men H3898 , and fight [H8738]  .
H6430 And the Philistines H3898 fought [H8735]   H3478 , and Israel H5062 was smitten [H8735]   H5127 , and they fled [H8799]   H376 every man H168 into his tent H3966 : and there was a very H1419 great H4347 slaughter H5307 ; for there fell [H8799]   H3478 of Israel H7970 thirty H505 thousand H7273 footmen.
H727 And the ark H430 of God H3947 was taken [H8738]   H8147 ; and the two H1121 sons H5941 of Eli H2652 , Hophni H6372 and Phinehas H4191 , were slain [H8804]  .
H7323 And there ran [H8799]   H376 a man H1144 of Benjamin H4634 out of the army H935 , and came [H8799]   H7887 to Shiloh H3117 the same day H4055 with his clothes H7167 rent [H8803]   H127 , and with earth H7218 upon his head.
H935 And when he came [H8799]   H5941 , lo, Eli H3427 sat [H8802]   H3678 upon a seat H1870 by the wayside H3027   [H8675]   H3197   H6822 watching [H8764]   H3820 : for his heart H2730 trembled H727 for the ark H430 of God H376 . And when the man H935 came [H8802]   H5892 into the city H5046 , and told [H8687]   H5892 it, all the city H2199 cried out [H8799]  .
H5941 And when Eli H8085 heard [H8799]   H6963 the noise H6818 of the crying H559 , he said [H8799]   H6963 , What meaneth the noise H1995 of this tumult H376 ? And the man H935 came [H8799]   H4116 in hastily [H8765]   H5046 , and told [H8686]   H5941 Eli.
H5941 Now Eli H8673 was ninety H8083 and eight H8141 years H1121 old H5869 ; and his eyes H6965 were dim [H8804]   H3201 , that he could [H8804]   H7200 not see [H8800]  .
H376 And the man H559 said [H8799]   H5941 unto Eli H935 , I am he that came [H8802]   H4634 out of the army H5127 , and I fled [H8804]   H3117 to day H4634 out of the army H559 . And he said [H8799]   H1697 , What is there done H1121 , my son?
H1319 And the messenger [H8764]   H6030 answered [H8799]   H559 and said [H8799]   H3478 , Israel H5127 is fled [H8804]   H6440 before H6430 the Philistines H1419 , and there hath been also a great H4046 slaughter H5971 among the people H8147 , and thy two H1121 sons H2652 also, Hophni H6372 and Phinehas H4191 , are dead [H8804]   H727 , and the ark H430 of God H3947 is taken [H8738]  .
H2142 And it came to pass, when he made mention [H8687]   H727 of the ark H430 of God H5307 , that he fell [H8799]   H3678 from off the seat H322 backward H1157 by H3027 the side H8179 of the gate H4665 , and his neck H7665 brake [H8735]   H4191 , and he died [H8799]   H2204 : for he was an old [H8804]   H376 man H3513 , and heavy [H8804]   H8199 . And he had judged [H8804]   H3478 Israel H705 forty H8141 years.
H3618 And his daughter in law H6372 , Phinehas H802 ' wife H2030 , was with child H3205 , near to be delivered [H8800]   H8085 : and when she heard [H8799]   H8052 the tidings H413 that H727 the ark H430 of God H3947 was taken [H8736]   H2524 , and that her father in law H376 and her husband H4191 were dead [H8804]   H3766 , she bowed [H8799]   H3205 herself and travailed [H8799]   H6735 ; for her pains H2015 came [H8738]   upon her.
H6256 And about the time H4191 of her death [H8800]   H5324 the women that stood [H8737]   H1696 by her said [H8762]   H3372 unto her, Fear [H8799]   H3205 not; for thou hast born [H8804]   H1121 a son H6030 . But she answered [H8804]   H7896 not, neither did she regard [H8804]   H3820   it .
H7121 And she named [H8799]   H5288 the child H350 Ichabod H559 , saying [H8800]   H3519 , The glory H1540 is departed [H8804]   H3478 from Israel H413 : because H727 the ark H430 of God H3947 was taken [H8736]   H2524 , and because of her father in law H376 and her husband.
H559 And she said [H8799]   H3519 , The glory H1540 is departed [H8804]   H3478 from Israel H727 : for the ark H430 of God H3947 is taken [H8738]  .
KJV(i) 1 And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and pitched beside Ebenezer: and the Philistines pitched in Aphek. 2 And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was smitten before the Philistines: and they slew of the army in the field about four thousand men. 3 And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the LORD smitten us to day before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies. 4 So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubim: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. 5 And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again. 6 And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the camp. 7 And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore. 8 Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty Gods? these are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness. 9 Be strong and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight. 10 And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen. 11 And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain. 12 And there ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes rent, and with earth upon his head. 13 And when he came, lo, Eli sat upon a seat by the wayside watching: for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out. 14 And when Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, What meaneth the noise of this tumult? And the man came in hastily, and told Eli. 15 Now Eli was ninety and eight years old; and his eyes were dim, that he could not see. 16 And the man said unto Eli, I am he that came out of the army, and I fled to day out of the army. And he said, What is there done, my son? 17 And the messenger answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken. 18 And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years. 19 And his daughter in law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her. 20 And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast born a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it. 21 And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband. 22 And she said, The glory is departed from Israel: for the ark of God is taken.
