Ruth Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled , that there was a famine in the land . And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab , he, and his wife , and his two sons.

And they came [H8799] H7704 into the country H4124 of Moab H1961 , and continued [H8799] H8033 there.

3 H458 And Elimelech H5281 Naomi's H376 husband H4191 died [H8799] H7604 ; and she was left [H8735] H8147 , and her two H1121 sons.

4 H5375 And they took [H8799] H802 them wives H802 of the women H4125 of Moab H8034 ; the name H259 of the one H6204 was Orpah H8034 , and the name H8145 of the other H7327 Ruth H3427 : and they dwelled [H8799] H6235 there about ten H8141 years.

5 H4248 And Mahlon H3630 and Chilion H4191 died [H8799] H8147 also both H802 of them; and the woman H7604 was left [H8735] H8147 of her two H3206 sons H376 and her husband.

6 H6965 Then she arose [H8799] H3618 with her daughters in law H7725 , that she might return [H8799] H7704 from the country H4124 of Moab H8085 : for she had heard [H8804] H7704 in the country H4124 of Moab H3068 how that the LORD H6485 had visited [H8804] H5971 his people H5414 in giving [H8800] H3899 them bread.

7 H3318 Wherefore she went forth [H8799] H4725 out of the place H8147 where she was, and her two H3618 daughters in law H3212 with her; and they went [H8799] H1870 on the way H7725 to return [H8800] H776 unto the land H3063 of Judah.

9 H3068 The LORD H5414 grant [H8799] H4672 you that ye may find [H8798] H4496 rest H802 , each H1004 of you in the house H376 of her husband H5401 . Then she kissed [H8799] H5375 them; and they lifted up [H8799] H6963 their voice H1058 , and wept [H8799] .

20 H559 And she said [H8799] H7121 unto them, Call [H8799] H5281 me not Naomi H7121 , call [H8798] H4755 me Mara H7706 : for the Almighty H3966 hath dealt very H4843 bitterly [H8689] with me.

21 H1980 I went out [H8804] H4392 full H3068 , and the LORD H7725 hath brought me home again [H8689] H7387 empty H7121 : why then call [H8799] H5281 ye me Naomi H3068 , seeing the LORD H6030 hath testified [H8804] H7706 against me, and the Almighty H7489 hath afflicted [H8689] me?

22 H5281 So Naomi H7725 returned [H8799] H7327 , and Ruth H4125 the Moabitess H3618 , her daughter in law H7725 , with her, which returned [H8804] H7704 out of the country H4124 of Moab H935 : and they came [H8804] H1035 to Bethlehem H8462 in the beginning H8184 of barley H7105 harvest.

And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi? ²⁰ And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me. ²¹ I went out full and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me? ²² So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
