2 H4911 What mean ye, that ye use [H8802] H4912 this proverb H127 concerning the land H3478 of Israel H559 , saying [H8800] H1 , The fathers H398 have eaten [H8799] H1155 sour grapes H1121 , and the children's H8127 teeth H6949 are set on edge [H8799] ?

3 H2416 As I live H5002 , saith [H8803] H136 the Lord H3069 GOD H4911 , ye shall not have occasion any more to use [H8800] H4912 this proverb H3478 in Israel.

4 H5315 Behold, all souls H5315 are mine; as the soul H1 of the father H5315 , so also the soul H1121 of the son H5315 is mine: the soul H2398 that sinneth [H8802] H4191 , it shall die [H8799] .

5 H376 But if a man H6662 be just H6213 , and do [H8804] H4941 that which is lawful H6666 and right,

6 H398 And hath not eaten [H8804] H2022 upon the mountains H5375 , neither hath lifted up [H8804] H5869 his eyes H1544 to the idols H1004 of the house H3478 of Israel H2930 , neither hath defiled [H8765] H7453 his neighbour's H802 wife H7126 , neither hath come near [H8799] H5079 to a menstruous H802 woman,

7 H3238 And hath not oppressed [H8686] H376 any H7725 , but hath restored [H8686] H2326 to the debtor H2258 his pledge H1497 , hath spoiled [H8799] H1500 none by violence H5414 , hath given [H8799] H3899 his bread H7457 to the hungry H3680 , and hath covered [H8762] H5903 the naked H899 with a garment;

8 H5414 He that hath not given forth [H8799] H5392 upon usury H3947 , neither hath taken [H8799] H8636 any increase H7725 , that hath withdrawn [H8686] H3027 his hand H5766 from iniquity H6213 , hath executed [H8799] H571 true H4941 judgment H376 between man H376 and man,

9 H1980 Hath walked [H8762] H2708 in my statutes H8104 , and hath kept [H8804] H4941 my judgments H6213 , to deal [H8800] H571 truly H6662 ; he is just H2421 , he shall surely [H8800] H2421 live [H8799] H5002 , saith [H8803] H136 the Lord H3069 GOD.

10 H3205 If he beget [H8689] H1121 a son H6530 that is a robber H8210 , a shedder [H8802] H1818 of blood H6213 , and that doeth [H8804] H251 the like H259 to any one of these things,

11 H6213 And that doeth [H8804] H398 not any of those duties, but even hath eaten [H8804] H2022 upon the mountains H2930 , and defiled [H8765] H7453 his neighbour's H802 wife,

12 H3238 Hath oppressed [H8689] H6041 the poor H34 and needy H1497 , hath spoiled [H8804] H1500 by violence H7725 , hath not restored [H8686] H2258 the pledge H5375 , and hath lifted up [H8804] H5869 his eyes H1544 to the idols H6213 , hath committed [H8804] H8441 abomination,

13 H5414 Hath given forth [H8804] H5392 upon usury H3947 , and hath taken [H8804] H8636 increase H2425 : shall he then live [H8804] H2421 ? he shall not live [H8799] H6213 : he hath done [H8804] H8441 all these abominations H4191 ; he shall surely [H8800] H4191 die [H8714] H1818 ; his blood shall be upon him.

14 H3205 Now, lo, if he beget [H8689] H1121 a son H7200 , that seeth [H8799] H1 all his father's H2403 sins H6213 which he hath done [H8804] H7200 , and considereth [H8799] H6213 , and doeth [H8799] H2004 not such like,

15 H398 That hath not eaten [H8804] H2022 upon the mountains H5375 , neither hath lifted up [H8804] H5869 his eyes H1544 to the idols H1004 of the house H3478 of Israel H2930 , hath not defiled [H8765] H7453 his neighbour's H802 wife,

16 H3238 Neither hath oppressed [H8689] H376 any H2254 , hath not withholden [H8804] H2258 the pledge H1497 , neither hath spoiled [H8804] H1500 by violence H5414 , but hath given [H8804] H3899 his bread H7457 to the hungry H3680 , and hath covered [H8765] H5903 the naked H899 with a garment,

17 H7725 That hath taken off [H8689] H3027 his hand H6041 from the poor H3947 , that hath not received [H8804] H5392 usury H8636 nor increase H6213 , hath executed [H8804] H4941 my judgments H1980 , hath walked [H8804] H2708 in my statutes H4191 ; he shall not die [H8799] H5771 for the iniquity H1 of his father H2421 , he shall surely [H8800] H2421 live [H8799] .

18 H1 As for his father H6233 , because he cruelly H6231 oppressed [H8804] H1497 , spoiled [H8804] H251 his brother H1499 by violence H6213 , and did [H8804] H2896 that which is not good H8432 among H5971 his people H4191 , lo, even he shall die [H8801] H5771 in his iniquity.

19 H559 Yet say [H8804] H1121 ye, Why? doth not the son H5375 bear [H8804] H5771 the iniquity H1 of the father H1121 ? When the son H6213 hath done [H8804] H4941 that which is lawful H6666 and right H8104 , and hath kept [H8804] H2708 all my statutes H6213 , and hath done [H8799] H2421 them, he shall surely [H8800] H2421 live [H8799] .

20 H5315 The soul H2398 that sinneth [H8802] H4191 , it shall die [H8799] H1121 . The son H5375 shall not bear [H8799] H5771 the iniquity H1 of the father H1 , neither shall the father H5375 bear [H8799] H5771 the iniquity H1121 of the son H6666 : the righteousness H6662 of the righteous H7564 shall be upon him, and the wickedness H7563 of the wicked shall be upon him.

21 H7563 But if the wicked H7725 will turn [H8799] H2403 from all his sins H6213 that he hath committed [H8804] H8104 , and keep [H8804] H2708 all my statutes H6213 , and do [H8804] H4941 that which is lawful H6666 and right H2421 , he shall surely [H8800] H2421 live [H8799] H4191 , he shall not die [H8799] .

22 H6588 All his transgressions H6213 that he hath committed [H8804] H2142 , they shall not be mentioned [H8735] H6666 unto him: in his righteousness H6213 that he hath done [H8804] H2421 he shall live [H8799] .

23 H2654 Have I any pleasure [H8799] H2654 at all [H8800] H7563 that the wicked H4194 should die H5002 ? saith [H8803] H136 the Lord H3069 GOD H7725 : and not that he should return [H8800] H1870 from his ways H2421 , and live [H8804] ?

24 H6662 But when the righteous H7725 turneth away [H8800] H6666 from his righteousness H6213 , and committeth [H8804] H5766 iniquity H6213 , and doeth [H8799] H8441 according to all the abominations H7563 that the wicked H6213 man doeth [H8804] H2425 , shall he live [H8804] H6666 ? 25 H559 Yet ye say [H8804] H1870 , The way H136 of the Lord H8505 is not equal [H8735] H8085 . Hear [H8798] H1004 now, O house H3478 of Israel H1870 ; Is not my way H8505 equal [H8735] H1870 ? are not your ways H8505 unequal [H8735] ?

26 H6662 When a righteous H7725 man turneth away [H8800] H6666 from his righteousness H6213 , and committeth [H8804] H5766 iniquity H4191 , and dieth [H8804] H5766 in them; for his iniquity H6213 that he hath done [H8804] H4191 shall he die [H8799] .

27 H7563 Again, when the wicked H7725 man turneth away [H8800] H7564 from his wickedness H6213 that he hath committed [H8804] H6213 , and doeth [H8799] H4941 that which is lawful H6666 and right H2421 , he shall save H5315 his soul H2421 alive [H8762] .

28 H7200 Because he considereth [H8799] H7725 , and turneth away [H8799] H6588 from all his transgressions H6213 that he hath committed [H8804] H2421 , he shall surely [H8800] H2421 live [H8799] H4191 , he shall not die [H8799] .

29 H559 Yet saith [H8804] H1004 the house H3478 of Israel H1870 , The way H136 of the Lord H8505 is not equal [H8735] H1004 . O house H3478 of Israel H1870 , are not my ways H8505 equal [H8735] H1870 ? are not your ways H8505 unequal [H8735] ?

30 H8199 Therefore I will judge [H8799] H1004 you, O house H3478 of Israel H376 , every one H1870 according to his ways H5002 , saith [H8803] H136 the Lord H3069 GOD H7725 . Repent [H8798] H7725 , and turn [H8685] H6588 yourselves from all your transgressions H5771 ; so iniquity H4383 shall not be your ruin.

31 H7993 Cast away [H8685] H6588 from you all your transgressions H6586 , whereby ye have transgressed [H8804] H6213 ; and make [H8798] H2319 you a new H3820 heart H2319 and a new H7307 spirit H4191 : for why will ye die [H8799] H1004 , O house H3478 of Israel?

32 H2654 For I have no pleasure [H8799] H4194 in the death H4191 of him that dieth [H8801] H5002 , saith [H8803] H136 the Lord H3069 GOD H7725 : wherefore turn [H8685] H2421 yourselves, and live [H8798] ye.

4 H2005 הן Behold, H3605 כל all H5315 הנפשׁות souls H2007 לי הנה H5315 כנפשׁ are mine; as the soul H1 האב of the father, H5315 וכנפשׁ so also the soul H1121 הבן of the son H2007 לי הנה H5315 הנפשׁ is mine: the soul H2398 החטאת that sinneth, H1931 היא it H4191 תמות׃ shall die.

5 H376 ואישׁ a man H3588 כי But if H1961 יהיה be H6662 צדיק just, H6213 ועשׂה and do H4941 משׁפט that which is lawful H6666 וצדקה׃ and right,

6 H413 אל upon H2022 ההרים the mountains, H3808 לא hath not H398 אכל eaten H5869 ועיניו his eyes H3808 לא neither H5375 נשׂא hath lifted up H413 אל to H1544 גלולי the idols H1004 בית of the house H3478 ישׂראל of Israel, H853 ואת H802 אשׁת wife, H7453 רעהו his neighbor's H3808 לא neither H2930 טמא hath defiled H413 ואל to H802 אשׁה woman, H5079 נדה a menstruous H3808 לא neither H7126 יקרב׃ hath come near

22 H3605 כל All H6588 פשׁעיו his transgressions H834 אשׁר that H6213 עשׂה he hath committed, H3808 לא they shall not H2142 יזכרו be mentioned H6666 לו בצדקתו unto him: in his righteousness H834 אשׁר that H6213 עשׂה he hath done H2421 יחיה׃ he shall live.

23 H2654 החפץ H2654 אחפץ H4194 מות should die? H7563 רשׁע that the wicked H5002 נאם saith H136 אדני the Lord H3069 יהוה GOD: H3808 הלוא not H7725 בשׁובו that he should return H1870 מדרכיו from his ways, H2421 וחיה׃ and live?

24 H7725 ובשׁוב turneth away H6662 צדיק But when the righteous H6666 מצדקתו from his righteousness, H6213 ועשׂה and committeth H5766 עול iniquity, H3605 ככל according to all H8441 התועבות the abominations H834 אשׁר that H6213 עשׂה doeth H7563 הרשׁע the wicked H6213 יעשׂה doeth, H2425 וחי H3605 כל All H6666 צדקתו his righteousness H834 אשׁר that H6213 עשׂה he hath done H3808 לא shall not H2142 תזכרנה be mentioned: H4603 במעלו he hath trespassed, H834 אשׁר that H4604 מעל in his trespass H2403 ובחטאתו and in his sin H834 אשׁר that H2398 חטא he hath sinned, H4191 בם ימות׃ in them shall he die.

25 H559 ואמרתם Yet ye say, H3808 לא is not equal. H8505 יתכן is not equal. H1870 דרך The way H136 אדני of the Lord H8085 שׁמעו Hear H4994 נא now, H1004 בית O house H3478 ישׂראל of Israel; H1870 הדרכי my way H3808 לא Is not H8505 יתכן equal? H3808 הלא are not H1870 דרכיכם your ways H3808 לא unequal? H8505 יתכנו׃ unequal?

26 H7725 בשׁוב turneth away H6662 צדיק When a righteous H6666 מצדקתו from his righteousness, H6213 ועשׂה and committeth H5766 עול iniquity, H4191 ומת and dieth H5921 עליהם in H5766 בעולו them; for his iniquity H834 אשׁר that H6213 עשׂה he hath done H4191 ימות׃ shall he die.

27 H7725 ובשׁוב turneth away H7563 רשׁע Again, when the wicked H7564 מרשׁעתו from his wickedness H834 אשׁר that H6213 עשׂה he hath committed, H6213 ויעשׂ and doeth H4941 משׁפט that which is lawful H6666 וצדקה and right, H1931 הוא he H853 את H5315 נפשׁו H2421 יחיה׃

28 H7200 ויראה Because he considereth, H7725 וישׁוב and turneth away H3605 מכל from all H6588 פשׁעיו his transgressions H834 אשׁר that H6213 עשׂה he hath committed, H2421 חיו he shall surely live, H2421 יחיה he shall surely live, H3808 לא he shall not H4191 ימות׃ die.

29 H559 ואמרו Yet saith H1004 בית the house H3478 ישׂראל of Israel, H3808 לא is not equal. H8505 יתכן is not equal. H1870 דרך The way H136 אדני of the Lord H1870 הדרכי my ways H3808 לא are not H8505 יתכנו equal? H1004 בית O house H3478 ישׂראל of Israel, H3808 הלא are not H1870 דרכיכם your ways H3808 לא unequal? H8505 יתכן׃ unequal?

30 H3651 לכן Therefore H376 אישׁ every one H1870 כדרכיו according to his ways, H8199 אשׁפט I will judge H853 אתכם H1004 בית you, O house H3478 ישׂראל of Israel, H5002 נאם saith H136 אדני the Lord H3068 יהוה H7725 שׁובו Repent, H7725 והשׁיבו and turn H3605 מכל from all H6588 פשׁעיכם your transgressions; H3808 ולא shall not H1961 יהיה be H4383 לכם למכשׁול your ruin. H5771 עון׃ so iniquity

31 H7993 השׁליכו Cast away H5921 מעליכם from H853 את H3605 כל you all H6588 פשׁעיכם your transgressions, H834 אשׁר whereby H6586 פשׁעתם ye have transgressed; H6213 בם ועשׂו and make H3820 לכם לב heart H2319 חדשׁ you a new H7307 ורוח spirit: H2319 חדשׁה and a new H4100 ולמה for why H4191 תמתו will ye die, H1004 בית O house H3478 ישׂראל׃ of Israel?

32 H3588 כי For H3808 לא H2654 אחפץ H4194 במות in the death H4191 המת of him that dieth, H5002 נאם saith H136 אדני the Lord H3069 יהוה GOD: H7725 והשׁיבו wherefore turn H2421 וחיו׃ and live
