Deuteronomy 25 If there be a controversy between men , and they come unto judgment , that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous , and condemn the wicked.

2 H7563 And it shall be, if the wicked man H1121 be worthy H5221 to be beaten [H8687] H8199 , that the judge [H8802] H5307 shall cause him to lie down [H8689] H5221 , and to be beaten [H8689] H6440 before his face H1767 , according H7564 to his fault H4557 , by a certain number.

3 H705 Forty H5221 stripes [H8686] H3254 he may give him, and not exceed [H8686] H3254 : lest, if he should exceed [H8686] H5221 , and beat [H8687] H7227 him above these with many H4347 stripes H251 , then thy brother H7034 should seem vile [H8738] H5869 unto thee.

4 H2629 Thou shalt not muzzle [H8799] H7794 the ox H1778 when he treadeth out [H8800] the corn .

5 H251 If brethren H3427 dwell [H8799] H3162 together H259 , and one H4191 of them die [H8804] H1121 , and have no child H802 , the wife H4191 of the dead [H8801] H2351 shall not marry without H376 unto a stranger H2114 [H8801] H2993 : her husband's brother H935 shall go in [H8799] H3947 unto her, and take [H8804] H802 her to him to wife H2992 , and perform the duty of an husband's brother [H8762] unto her.

6 H1060 And it shall be, that the firstborn H3205 which she beareth [H8799] H6965 shall succeed [H8799] H8034 in the name H251 of his brother H4191 which is dead [H8801] H8034 , that his name H4229 be not put out [H8735] H3478 of Israel.

7 H376 And if the man H2654 like [H8799] H3947 not to take [H8800] H2994 his brother's wife H2994 , then let his brother's wife H5927 go up [H8804] H8179 to the gate H2205 unto the elders H559 , and say [H8804] H2993 , My husband's brother H3985 refuseth [H8765] H6965 to raise up [H8687] H251 unto his brother H8034 a name H3478 in Israel H14 , he will [H8804] H2992 not perform the duty of my husband's brother [H8763] .

8 H2205 Then the elders H5892 of his city H7121 shall call [H8804] H1696 him, and speak [H8765] H5975 unto him: and if he stand [H8804] H559 to it, and say [H8804] H2654 , I like [H8804] H3947 not to take [H8800] her;

9 H2994 Then shall his brother's wife H5066 come [H8738] H5869 unto him in the presence H2205 of the elders H2502 , and loose [H8804] H5275 his shoe H7272 from off his foot H3417 , and spit [H8804] H6440 in his face H6030 , and shall answer [H8804] H559 and say [H8804] H6213 , So shall it be done [H8735] H376 unto that man H1129 that will not build up [H8799] H251 his brother's H1004 house.

10 H8034 And his name H7121 shall be called [H8738] H3478 in Israel H1004 , The house H5275 of him that hath his shoe H2502 loosed [H8803] .

11 H582 When men H5327 strive [H8735] H3162 together H251 one with another H376 H802 , and the wife H259 of the one H7126 draweth near [H8804] H5337 for to deliver [H8687] H376 her husband H3027 out of the hand H5221 of him that smiteth [H8688] H7971 him, and putteth forth [H8804] H3027 her hand H2388 , and taketh [H8689] H4016 him by the secrets:

12 H7112 Then thou shalt cut off [H8804] H3709 her hand H5869 , thine eye H2347 shall not pity [H8799] her .

13 H3599 Thou shalt not have in thy bag H68 divers weights H68 H1419 , a great H6996 and a small.

14 H1004 Thou shalt not have in thine house H374 divers measures H374 H1419 , a great H6996 and a small.

15 H8003 But thou shalt have a perfect H6664 and just H68 weight H8003 , a perfect H6664 and just H374 measure H3117 shalt thou have: that thy days H748 may be lengthened [H8686] H127 in the land H3068 which the LORD H430 thy God H5414 giveth [H8802] thee.

16 H6213 For all that do [H8802] H428 such things H6213 , and all that do [H8802] H5766 unrighteously H8441 , are an abomination H3068 unto the LORD H430 thy God.

17 H2142 Remember [H8800] H6002 what Amalek H6213 did [H8804] H1870 unto thee by the way H3318 , when ye were come forth [H8800] H4714 out of Egypt;

18 H7136 How he met [H8804] H1870 thee by the way H2179 , and smote the hindmost [H8762] H2826 of thee, even all that were feeble [H8737] H310 behind H5889 thee, when thou wast faint H3023 and weary H3373 ; and he feared H430 not God.

19 H3068 Therefore it shall be, when the LORD H430 thy God H5117 hath given thee rest [H8687] H341 from all thine enemies [H8802] H5439 round about H776 , in the land H3068 which the LORD H430 thy God H5414 giveth [H8802] H5159 thee for an inheritance H3423 to possess [H8800] H4229 it, that thou shalt blot out [H8799] H2143 the remembrance H6002 of Amalek H8064 from under heaven H7911 ; thou shalt not forget [H8799] it .

2 H1961 והיה And it shall be, H518 אם if H1121 בן man worthy to be beaten, H5221 הכות man worthy to be beaten, H7563 הרשׁע the wicked H5307 והפילו shall cause him to lie down, H8199 השׁפט that the judge H5221 והכהו and to be beaten H6440 לפניו before his face, H1767 כדי according to H7564 רשׁעתו his fault, H4557 במספר׃ by a certain number.

3 H705 ארבעים Forty H5221 יכנו stripes he may give H3808 לא him, not H3254 יסיף exceed: H6435 פן lest, H3254 יסיף he should exceed, H5221 להכתו and beat H5921 על him above H428 אלה these H4347 מכה stripes, H7227 רבה with many H7034 ונקלה should seem vile H251 אחיך then thy brother H5869 לעיניך׃ unto

4 H3808 לא Thou shalt not H2629 תחסם muzzle H7794 שׁור the ox H1758 בדישׁו׃ when he treadeth out

5 H3588 כי If H3427 ישׁבו dwell H251 אחים brethren H3162 יחדו together, H4191 ומת them die, H259 אחד and one H1992 מהם H1121 ובן child, H369 אין and have no H3808 לו לא shall not H1961 תהיה marry H802 אשׁת the wife H4191 המת of the dead H2351 החוצה without H376 לאישׁ unto a stranger: H2114 זר unto a stranger: H2993 יבמה her husband's brother H935 יבא shall go in H5921 עליה unto H3947 ולקחה her, and take H802 לו לאשׁה her to him to wife, H2992 ויבמה׃ and perform the duty of a husband's brother

6 H1961 והיה And it shall be, H1060 הבכור the firstborn H834 אשׁר which H3205 תלד she beareth H6965 יקום shall succeed H5921 על in H8034 שׁם the name H251 אחיו of his brother H4191 המת dead, H3808 ולא be not H4229 ימחה put out H8034 שׁמו that his name H3478 מישׂראל׃

7 H518 ואם And if H3808 לא not H2654 יחפץ like H376 האישׁ the man H3947 לקחת to take H853 את H2994 יבמתו his brother's wife, H5927 ועלתה go up H2994 יבמתו then let his brother's wife H8179 השׁערה to the gate H413 אל unto H2205 הזקנים the elders, H559 ואמרה and say, H3985 מאן refuseth H2993 יבמי My husband's brother H6965 להקים to raise up H251 לאחיו unto his brother H8034 שׁם a name H3478 בישׂראל in Israel, H3808 לא not H14 אבה he will H2992 יבמי׃ perform the duty of my husband's brother.

8 H7121 וקראו shall call H2205 לו זקני Then the elders H5892 עירו of his city H1696 ודברו him, and speak H413 אליו unto H5975 ועמד him: and he stand H559 ואמר and say, H3808 לא not H2654 חפצתי I like H3947 לקחתה׃ to take

9 H5066 ונגשׁה come H2994 יבמתו Then shall his brother's wife H413 אליו unto H5869 לעיני him in the presence H2205 הזקנים of the elders, H2502 וחלצה and loose H5275 נעלו his shoe H5921 מעל from off H7272 רגלו his foot, H3417 וירקה and spit H6440 בפניו in his face, H6030 וענתה and shall answer H559 ואמרה and say, H3602 ככה So H6213 יעשׂה shall it be done H376 לאישׁ unto that man H834 אשׁר that H3808 לא will not H1129 יבנה build up H853 את H1004 בית house. H251 אחיו׃ his brother's

10 H7121 ונקרא shall be called H8034 שׁמו And his name H3478 בישׂראל in Israel, H1004 בית The house H2502 חלוץ loosed. H5275 הנעל׃ of him that hath his shoe

11 H3588 כי When H5327 ינצו strive H376 אנשׁים men H3162 יחדו together H376 אישׁ one H251 ואחיו with another, H7126 וקרבה draweth near H802 אשׁת and the wife H259 האחד of the one H5337 להציל for to deliver H853 את H376 אישׁה her husband H3027 מיד out of the hand H5221 מכהו of him that smiteth H7971 ושׁלחה him, and putteth forth H3027 ידה her hand, H2388 והחזיקה and taketh H4016 במבשׁיו׃ him by the secrets:

12 H7112 וקצתה Then thou shalt cut off H853 את H3709 כפה her hand, H3808 לא shall not H2347 תחוס pity H5869 עינך׃ thine eye

13 H3808 לא Thou shalt not H1961 יהיה have H3599 לך בכיסך in thy bag H68 אבן divers weights, H68 ואבן divers weights, H1419 גדולה a great H6996 וקטנה׃ and a small.

14 H3808 לא Thou shalt not H1961 יהיה have H1004 לך בביתך in thine house H374 איפה divers measures, H374 ואיפה divers measures, H1419 גדולה a great H6996 וקטנה׃ and a small.

15 H68 אבן weight, H8003 שׁלמה a perfect H6664 וצדק and just H1961 יהיה thou shalt have H374 לך איפה measure H8003 שׁלמה a perfect H6664 וצדק and just H1961 יהיה shalt thou have: H4616 לך למען that H748 יאריכו may be lengthened H3117 ימיך thy days H5921 על in H127 האדמה the land H834 אשׁר which H3068 יהוה the LORD H430 אלהיך thy God H5414 נתן׃ giveth

16 H3588 כי For H8441 תועבת an abomination H3068 יהוה unto the LORD H430 אלהיך thy God. H3605 כל all H6213 עשׂה that do H428 אלה such things, H3605 כל all H6213 עשׂה that do H5766 עול׃ unrighteously,

17 H2142 זכור Remember H853 את H834 אשׁר what H6213 עשׂה did H6002 לך עמלק Amalek H1870 בדרך unto thee by the way, H3318 בצאתכם when ye were come forth H4714 ממצרים׃

18 H834 אשׁר How H7136 קרך he met H1870 בדרך thee by the way, H2179 ויזנב and smote the hindmost H3605 בך כל of thee, all H2826 הנחשׁלים feeble H310 אחריך behind H859 ואתה thee, when thou H5889 עיף faint H3023 ויגע and weary; H3808 ולא not H3373 ירא H430 אלהים׃ God.

19 H1961 והיה Therefore it shall be, H5117 בהניח hath given thee rest H3068 יהוה when the LORD H430 אלהיך thy God H3605 לך מכל from all H341 איביך thine enemies H5439 מסביב round about, H776 בארץ in the land H834 אשׁר which H3068 יהוה the LORD H430 אלהיך thy God H5414 נתן giveth H5159 לך נחלה thee an inheritance H3423 לרשׁתה to possess H4229 תמחה it, thou shalt blot out H853 את H2143 זכר the remembrance H6002 עמלק of Amalek H8478 מתחת from under H8064 השׁמים heaven; H3808 לא thou shalt not H7911 תשׁכח׃ forget
