Amos 7

  1 H136 Thus hath the Sovereign H3069 LORD H7200 [H8689] shown H3335 [H8802] to me; and, behold, he formed H1462 grasshoppers H8462 in the beginning H5927 [H8800] of the shooting up H3954 of the latter growth; H3954 and, lo, it was the latter growth H310 after H4428 the king's H1488 mowings.

  2 H3615 [H8765] And it came to pass, that when they had stopped H398 [H8800] eating H6212 the grass H776 of the land, H559 [H8799] then I said, H136 O Sovereign H3069 LORD, H5545 [H8798] forgive, H3290 I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob H6965 [H8799] arise? H6996 for he is small.

  3 H3068 The LORD H5162 [H8738] sighed H559 [H8804] for this: It shall not be, saith H3068 the LORD.

  4 H136 Thus hath the Sovereign H3069 LORD H7200 [H8689] shown H136 to me: and, behold, the Sovereign H3069 LORD H7121 [H8802] called H7378 [H8800] to contend H784 by fire, H398 [H8799] and it devoured H7227 the great H8415 deep, H398 [H8804] and ate up H2506 a part.

  5 H559 [H8799] Then said H136 I, O Sovereign H3069 LORD, H2308 [H8798] cease, H3290 I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob H6965 [H8799] arise? H6996 for he is small.

  6 H3068 The LORD H5162 [H8738] sighed H559 [H8804] for this: This also shall not be, saith H136 the Sovereign H3069 LORD.

  7 H7200 [H8689] Thus he showed H136 me: and, behold, the Sovereign H5324 [H8737] stood H2346 upon a wall H594 made by a plumbline, H594 with a plumbline H3027 in his hand.

  8 H3068 And the LORD H559 [H8799] said H5986 to me, Amos, H7200 [H8802] what seest H559 [H8799] thou? And I said, H594 A plumbline. H559 [H8799] Then said H136 the Sovereign, H7760 [H8802] Behold, I will set H594 a plumbline H7130 in the midst H5971 of my people H3478 Israel: H3254 [H8686] I will not again H5674 [H8800] pass by them any more:

  9 H1116 And the high places H3446 of Isaac H8074 [H8738] shall be desolate, H4720 and the sanctuaries H3478 of Israel H2717 [H8799] shall be laid waste; H6965 [H8804] and I will rise H1004 against the house H3379 of Jeroboam H2719 with the sword.

  10 H558 Then Amaziah H3548 the priest H1008 of Bethel H7971 [H8799] sent H3379 to Jeroboam H4428 king H3478 of Israel, H559 [H8800] saying, H5986 Amos H7194 [H8804] hath conspired H7130 against thee in the midst H1004 of the house H3478 of Israel: H776 the land H3201 [H8799] is not able H3557 [H8687] to bear H1697 all his words.

  11 H5986 For thus Amos H559 [H8804] saith, H3379 Jeroboam H4191 [H8799] shall die H2719 by the sword, H3478 and Israel H1540 [H8800] shall surely H1540 [H8799] be led away captive H127 out of their own soil.

  12 H558 Also Amaziah H559 [H8799] said H5986 to Amos, H2374 O thou envisioner, H3212 [H8798] go, H1272 [H8798] flee thee away H776 into the land H3063 of Judah, H398 [H8798] and there eat H3899 bread, H5012 [H8735] and prophesy there:

  13 H5012 [H8736] But prophesy H3254 [H8686] not again H1008 any more at Bethel: H4428 for it is the king's H4720 sanctuary, H4467 and it is the king's H1004 court.

  14 H6030 [H8799] Then answered H5986 Amos, H559 [H8799] and said H558 to Amaziah, H5030 I was no prophet, H5030 neither was I a prophet's H1121 son; H951 but I was an herdman, H1103 [H8802] and a gatherer H8256 of sycamore fruit:

  15 H3068 And the LORD H3947 [H8799] took H310 me as I followed H6629 the flock, H3068 and the LORD H559 [H8799] said H3212 [H8798] to me, Go, H5012 [H8734] prophesy H5971 to my people H3478 Israel.

  16 H8085 [H8798] Now therefore hear H1697 thou the word H3068 of the LORD: H559 [H8802] Thou sayest, H5012 [H8735] Prophesy H3478 not against Israel, H5197 [H8686] and drop H1004 not thy word against the house H3446 of Isaac.

  17 H559 [H8804] Therefore thus saith H3068 the LORD; H802 Thy wife H2181 [H8799] shall be an harlot H5892 in the city, H1121 and thy sons H1323 and thy daughters H5307 [H8799] shall fall H2719 by the sword, H127 and thy soil H2505 [H8792] shall be divided H2256 by line; H4191 [H8799] and thou shalt die H5921 in H2931 a polluted H127 soil: H3478 and Israel H1540 [H8800] shall surely H127 go from his soil H1540 [H8799] into captivity.
