Wycliffe(i) 9 Israel, here thou the comaundementis of lijf; perseyue thou with eeris, that thou kunne prudence. 10 Israel, what is it, that thou art in the lond of enemyes? 11 Thou wexidist eld in an alien lond, thou art defoulid with deed men, thou art arettid with hem, that goon doun in to helle? 12 Thou hast forsake the welle of wisdom; 13 for whi if thou haddist gon in the weies of God, sotheli thou haddist dwellid in pees on erthe. 14 Lerne thou, where is wisdom, where is prudence, where is vertu, where is vndurstondyng, that thou wite togidere, where is long duryng of lijf and lijf lode, where is liyt of iyen, and pees. 15 Who foond the place therof, and who entride in to the tresouris therof? 16 Where ben the princes of hethene men, and that ben lordis ouer the beestis, that ben on erthe? 17 Whiche pleien with the briddis of heuene; 18 whiche tresoren siluer and gold, in which men tristen, and noon ende is of the purchasyng of hem? Which maken siluer, and ben busi, and no fyndyng is of her werkis? 19 Thei ben distried, and yeden doun to hellis; and othere men riseden in the place of hem. 20 The yonge men of hem sien liyt, `and dwelliden on erthe. But thei knewen not the weie of wisdom, nether vndurstoden the pathis therof; 21 nether the sones of hem resseyueden it. It was maad fer fro the face of hem; 22 it is not herd in the lond of Canaan, nether is seyn in Theman. 23 Also the sones of Agar, that souyten out prudence which is of erthe, the marchauntis of erthe, and of Theman, and the tale telleris, and sekeris out of prudence and of vndurstondyng. But thei knewen not the weie of wisdom, nether hadden mynde on the paththis therof. 24 O! Israel, the hous of God is ful greet, and the place of his possessioun is greet; 25 it is greet and hath noon ende, hiy and greet without mesure. 26 Namyd giauntis weren there; thei that weren of greet stature at the bigynnyng, and knewen batel. 27 The Lord chees not these, nether thei founden the weie of wisdom; therfor thei perischiden. 28 And for thei hadden not wisdom, thei perischiden for her vnwisdom. 29 Who stiede in to heuene, and took that wisdom, and brouyte it doun fro the cloudis? 30 Who passide ouer the see, and foond it, and brouyte it more than chosun gold? 31 Noon is, that mai knowe the weie therof, nethir that sekith the pathis therof; 32 but he that han alle thingis, knewe it, and foond it bi his prudence. Which made redi the erthe in euerlastynge tyme, and fillide it with twei footid beestis, and foure footid beestis. 33 Which sendith out liyt, and it goith, and clepide it; and it obeieth to hym in tremblyng. 34 Forsothe sterris yauen liyt in her kepyngis, and weren glad; 35 tho weren clepid, and tho seiden, We ben present; and tho schyneden to hym with mirthe, that made tho. 36 This is oure God, and noon other schal be gessid ayens hym. 37 This foond ech weie of wisdom, and yaf it to Jacob, his child, and to Israel, his derlyng. 38 Aftir these thingis he was seyn in londis, and lyuede with men.
Geneva(i) 1 O Lorde Almightie, O God of Israel, the soule that is in trouble, and the spirite that is vexed, cryeth vnto thee. 2 Heare, O Lord, and haue mercie: for thou art mercifull, and haue pitie vpon vs, because wee haue sinned before thee. 3 For thou endurest for euer, & we vtterly perish. 4 O Lorde Almightie, the God of Israel, heare nowe the prayer of the dead Israelites, and of their children, which haue sinned before thee, and not hearkened vnto the voyce of thee ther God, wherefore these plagues hang vpon vs. 5 Remember not ye wickednesse of our fathers, but thinke vpo thy power, & thy Name at this time. 6 For thou art the Lorde our God, and thee, O Lord, will we prayse. 7 And for this cause hast thou put thy feare in our hearts, that we should call vpon thy Name, and prayse thee in our captiuitie: for we haue considered in our mindes all the wickednesse of our fathers, that sinned before thee. 8 Beholde, we are yet this day in our captiuitie, where thou hast scattered vs, to be a reproche and a curse, and subiect to payments, according to all the iniquities of our fathers, which are departed from the Lord their God. 9 O Israel, heare ye comandements of life: hearken vnto them, that thou maiest learne wisdome. 10 What is the cause, O Israel, that thou art in thine enemies land, and art waxen olde in a strange countrey? 11 And art defiled with the dead? and art counted with them, that goe downe to the graues? 12 Thou hast forsaken ye fountaine of wisdome. 13 For if thou hadst walked in the way of God, thou shouldest haue remayned safe for euer. 14 Learne where is wisedome, where is strength, where is vnderstanding, that thou maiest know also from whence commeth long continuance, and life, and where the light of the eyes, and peace is. 15 Who hath found out her place? or who hath come into her treasures? 16 Where are the princes of the heathen, & such as ruled the beastes vpon the earth? 17 They that had their pastime with the foules of the heauen, that hoarded vp siluer & gold, wherein men trust, & made none ende of their gathering? 18 For they that coyned siluer, & were so careful of their worke, & whose inuention had none ende, 19 Are come to nought, and gone downe to hel, and other men are come vp in their steades. 20 When they were young, they sawe the light, and dwelt vpon the earth: but they vnderstood not the way of knowledge, 21 Neither perceiued the pathes thereof, neither haue their children receiued it: but they were farre off from that way. 22 It hath not bene heard off in the land of Chanaan, neither hath it bene seene in Theman, 23 Nor the Agarines that sought after wisdome vpon the earth, nor the marchants of Nerran, and of Theman, nor the expounders of fables, nor the searchers out of wisdome haue knowen the way of wisdome, neither doe they thinke vpon the pathes thereof. 24 O Israel, howe great is the House of God! and howe large is the place of his possession! 25 It is great, and hath none ende: it is hie, and vnmeasurable. 26 There were the gyants, famous from the beginning, that were of so great stature, and so expert in warre. 27 Those did not the Lord choose, neither gaue he the way of knowledge vnto them. 28 But they were destroyed, because they had no wisdome, & perished through their owne foolishnes. 29 Who hath gone vp into heauen, to take her, and brought her downe from the cloudes? 30 Who hath gone ouer the sea to finde her, and hath brought her, rather then fine golde? 31 No man knoweth her wayes, neither considereth her pathes. 32 But he that knoweth al things, knoweth her, and he hath found her out with his vnderstanding: this same is he which hath prepared the earth for euermore, and hath filled it with foure footed beastes. 33 When he sendeth out the light, it goeth: and when he calleth it againe, it obeyeth him with feare. 34 And the starres shine in their watch, and reioyce. When he calleth them, they say, Here we be: and so with cherefulnesse they shewe light vnto him that made them. 35 This is our God, and there shall none other be compared vnto him. 36 He hath found out all the way of knowledge, and hath giuen it vnto Iacob his seruant, and to Israel his beloued. 37 Afterwarde he was seene vpon earth, and dwelt among men.
Bishops(i) 1 And nowe, O Lorde almightie, thou God of Israel: our soule that is in trouble, and our spirite that is vexed cryeth vnto thee: 2 Heare vs O Lord, and haue pitie vpon vs, for thou art a mercifull God: be gracious vnto vs, for we haue sinned before thee. 3 Thou endurest for euer: shoulde we then vtterly perishe? 4 O Lorde almightie, thou God of Israel, heare nowe the prayer of the dead Israelites and of their children, whiche haue sinned before thee, and not hearkened vnto the voyce of the Lorde their God, for the whiche cause these plagues hang nowe vpon vs. 5 O Lord remember not the wickednesse of our forefathers, but thinke vpon thy power and name nowe at this time: 6 For thou art the Lorde our God, and thee O Lorde will we prayse. 7 For thou hast put thy feare in our heartes, to the intent that we should call vpon thy name and prayse thee in our captiuitie, & that we might turne from the wickednesse of our forefathers that sinned before thee. 8 Behold, we are yet this day in our captiuitie, where as thou hast scattered vs to be an abhomination, curse, and subiect to exactions: like as it hath happened vnto our fathers also, because of al their wickednesse and departing from thee. 9 O Israel heare the commaundementes of lyfe, ponder them well with thyne eares, that thou maiest learne wisdome. 10 But howe happeneth it Israel that thou art in thyne enemies lande? thou art waxen olde in a straunge countrey, and defiled with the dead. 11 Why art thou become lyke them that go downe to their graues? 12 Euen because thou hast forsaken the well of wysdome. 13 For if thou hadst walked in the way of God truely, thou shouldest haue remayned still safe in thyne owne lande. 14 O learne then where is wysdome, where vertue is, where vnderstanding is: that thou mayest knowe also from whence commeth long continuance and lyfe, the light of the eyes, and quietnesse. 15 Who euer founde out her place? or who came euer into her treasures? 16 Where are the princes of the heathen become, and such as ruled the beastes vpon the earth, 17 They that had their pastime with the foules of the ayre, they that hoorded vp siluer & gold wherin men trust so much, and made no end of their gathering? 18 What is become of them that coyned siluer, and were so carefull, and coulde not bring their workes to passe? 19 They be rooted out and gone downe to hell, and other men are come vp in their steades. 20 Young men haue seene light, and dwelt vpon earth: but the way of reformation haue they not knowen. 21 Nor vnderstande the pathes thereof: neither haue their children receaued it, yea right farre is it from them. 22 It hath not ben heard of in the land of Chanaan, neither hath it ben seene at Theman. 23 The Agarenes sought after wisdome, but that whiche is earthly, like as the marchauntes of the lande do: they of Theman are cunning also, they labour for wysdome & vnderstanding: but the way of true wysedome they knowe not, neither do they thinke vpon the pathes therof. 24 O Israel howe great is the house of God? and howe large is the place of his possession? 25 Great is he, and hath none ende: yea hye and vnmeasurable. 26 What is become of those famous giauntes, that were so great of bodies, and so worthy men of warre? 27 Those hath not the Lorde chosen, neither haue they founde the way of reformation: 28 Therfore were they destroyed, and for so much as they had no wysdome, they perished because of their foolishenesse. 29 Who hath gone vp into heauen, to take wisdome there, and brought her downe from the cloudes? 30 Who hath gone ouer the sea to fynde her, and hath chosen her aboue golde, and so brought her hyther? 31 No man knoweth the wayes of wysedome, neither is there any that can seke out her pathes. 32 But he that woteth all thinges, knoweth her, and hath founde her out with his foreknowledge: this same is he whiche prepared the earth at the beginning, and filled it with all maner of foules and beastes. 33 When he sendeth out the light, it goeth: and when he calleth it againe, it obeyeth him with feare. 34 The starres kepe their watch and geue their light, yea and that gladly: When he calleth them they say, Here we be: and so with chearfulnesse they shewe light vnto him that made them. 35 This is our God, and there shal none other be compared vnto him. 36 It is he that hath founde out all wysedome, and hath geuen her vnto Iacob his seruaunt, and to Israel his beloued. 37 Afterwarde did he shewe hym selfe vpon earth, and dwelt among men.
DouayRheims(i) 1 And now, O Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, the soul in anguish, and the troubled spirit crieth to thee: 2 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy, for thou art a merciful God, and have pity on us: for we have sinned before thee. 3 For thou remainest for ever, and shall we perish everlastingly? 4 O Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, hear now the prayer of the dead of Israel, and of their children, that have sinned before thee, and have not hearkened to the voice of the Lord their God, wherefore evils have cleaved fast to us. 5 Remember not the iniquities of our fathers, but think upon thy hand, and upon thy name at this time: 6 For thou art the Lord our God, and we will praise thee, O Lord: 7 Because for this end thou hast put thy fear in our hearts, to the intent that we should call upon thy name, and praise thee in our captivity, for we are converted from the iniquity of our fathers, who sinned before thee. 8 And behold we are at this day in our captivity, whereby thou hast scattered us to be a reproach, and a curse, and an offence, according to all the iniquities of our fathers, who departed from thee, O Lord our God. 9 Hear, O Israel, the commandments of life: give ear, that thou mayst learn wisdom. 10 How happeneth it, O Israel, that thou art in thy enemies' land? 11 Thou art grown old in a strange country, thou art defiled with the dead: thou art counted with them that go down into hell. 12 Thou hast forsaken the fountain of wisdom : 13 For if thou hadst walked in the way of God, thou hadst surely dwelt in peace for ever. 14 Learn where is wisdom, where is strength, where is understanding: that thou mayst know also where is length of days and life, where is the light of the eyes, and peace. 15 Who hath found out her place? and who hath gone in to her treasures? 16 Where are the princes of the nations, and they that rule over the beasts that are upon the earth? 17 That take their diversion with the birds of the air. 18 That hoard up silver and gold, wherein men trust, and there is no end of their getting? who work in silver and are solicitous, and their works are unsearchable. 19 They are cut off, and are gone down to hell, and others are risen up in their place. 20 Young men have seen the light, and dwelt upon the earth: but the way of knowledge they have not known, 21 Nor have they understood the paths thereof, neither have their children received it, it is far from their face. 22 It hath not been heard of in the land of Chanaan, neither hath it been seen in Theman. 23 The children of Agar also, that search after the wisdom that is of the earth, the merchants of Merrha, and of Theman, and the tellers of fables, and searchers of prudence and understanding: but the way of wisdom they have not known, neither have they remembered her paths. 24 O Israel, how great is the house of God, and how vast is the place of his possession! 25 It is great, and hath no end: it is high and immense. 26 There were the giants, those renowned men that were from the beginning, of great stature, expert in war. 27 The Lord chose not them, neither did they find the way of knowledge: therefore did they perish. 28 And because they had not wisdom, they perished through their folly. 29 Who hath gone up into heaven, and taken her, and brought her down from the clouds? 30 Who hath passed over the sea, and found her, and brought her preferably to chosen gold? 31 There is none that is able to know her ways, nor that can search out her paths : 32 But he that knoweth all things, knoweth her, and hath found her out with his understanding: he that prepared the earth for evermore, and filled it with cattle and fourfooted beasts: 33 He that sendeth forth light, and it goeth: and hath called it, and it obeyeth him with trembling. 34 And the stars have given light in their watches, and rejoiced: 35 They were called, and they said: Here we are: and with cheerfuIness they have shined forth to him that made them. 36 This is our God, and there shall no other be accounted of in comparison of him. 37 He found out all the way of knowledge, and gave it to Jacob his servant, and to Israel his beloved. 38 Afterwards he was seen upon earth, and conversed with men.
KJV(i) 1 O Lord Almighty, God of Israel, the soul in anguish the troubled spirit, crieth unto thee. 2 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy; ar thou art merciful: and have pity upon us, because we have sinned before thee. 3 For thou endurest for ever, and we perish utterly. 4 O Lord Almighty, thou God of Israel, hear now the prayers of the dead Israelites, and of their children, which have sinned before thee, and not hearkened unto the voice of thee their God: for the which cause these plagues cleave unto us. 5 Remember not the iniquities of our forefathers: but think upon thy power and thy name now at this time. 6 For thou art the Lord our God, and thee, O Lord, will we praise. 7 And for this cause thou hast put thy fear in our hearts, to the intent that we should call upon thy name, and praise thee in our captivity: for we have called to mind all the iniquity of our forefathers, that sinned before thee. 8 Behold, we are yet this day in our captivity, where thou hast scattered us, for a reproach and a curse, and to be subject to payments, according to all the iniquities of our fathers, which departed from the Lord our God. 9 Hear, Israel, the commandments of life: give ear to understand wisdom. 10 How happeneth it Israel, that thou art in thine enemies' land, that thou art waxen old in a strange country, that thou art defiled with the dead, 11 That thou art counted with them that go down into the grave? 12 Thou hast forsaken the fountain of wisdom. 13 For if thou hadst walked in the way of God, thou shouldest have dwelled in peace for ever. 14 Learn where is wisdom, where is strength, where is understanding; that thou mayest know also where is length of days, and life, where is the light of the eyes, and peace. 15 Who hath found out her place? or who hath come into her treasures ? 16 Where are the princes of the heathen become, and such as ruled the beasts upon the earth; 17 They that had their pastime with the fowls of the air, and they that hoarded up silver and gold, wherein men trust, and made no end of their getting? 18 For they that wrought in silver, and were so careful, and whose works are unsearchable, 19 They are vanished and gone down to the grave, and others are come up in their steads. 20 Young men have seen light, and dwelt upon the earth: but the way of knowledge have they not known, 21 Nor understood the paths thereof, nor laid hold of it: their children were far off from that way. 22 It hath not been heard of in Chanaan, neither hath it been seen in Theman. 23 The Agarenes that seek wisdom upon earth, the merchants of Meran and of Theman, the authors of fables, and searchers out of understanding; none of these have known the way of wisdom, or remember her paths. 24 O Israel, how great is the house of God! and how large is the place of his possession! 25 Great, and hath none end; high, and unmeasurable. 26 There were the giants famous from the beginning, that were of so great stature, and so expert in war. 27 Those did not the Lord choose, neither gave he the way of knowledge unto them: 28 But they were destroyed, because they had no wisdom, and perished through their own foolishness. 29 Who hath gone up into heaven, and taken her, and brought her down from the clouds? 30 Who hath gone over the sea, and found her, and will bring her for pure gold? 31 No man knoweth her way, nor thinketh of her path. 32 But he that knoweth all things knoweth her, and hath found her out with his understanding: he that prepared the earth for evermore hath filled it with fourfooted beasts: 33 He that sendeth forth light, and it goeth, calleth it again, and it obeyeth him with fear. 34 The stars shined in their watches, and rejoiced: when he calleth them, they say, Here we be; and so with cheerfulness they shewed light unto him that made them. 35 This is our God, and there shall none other be accounted of in comparison of him 36 He hath found out all the way of knowledge, and hath given it unto Jacob his servant, and to Israel his beloved. 37 Afterward did he shew himself upon earth, and conversed with men.

ERV(i) 1 O Lord Almighty, thou God of Israel, the soul in anguish, the troubled spirit, crieth unto thee. 2 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy; for thou art a merciful God: yea, have mercy upon us, because we have sinned before thee. 3 For thou sittest [as king] for ever, and we perish evermore. 4 O Lord Almighty, thou God of Israel, hear now the prayer of the dead Israelites, and of the children of them which were sinners before thee, that hearkened not unto the voice of thee their God: for the which cause these plagues clave unto us. 5 Remember not the iniquities of our fathers: but remember thy power and thy name [now] at this time. 6 For thou art the Lord our God, and thee, O Lord, will we praise. 7 For for this cause thou hast put thy fear in our hearts, to the intent that we should call upon thy name: and we will praise thee in our captivity, for we have called to mind all the iniquity of our fathers, that sinned before thee. 8 Behold, we are yet this day in our captivity, where thou hast scattered us, for a reproach and a curse, and to be subject to penalty, according to all the iniquities of our fathers, which departed from the Lord our God. 9 Hear, O Israel, the commandments of life: give ear to understand wisdom. 10 How happeneth it, O Israel, that thou art in thine enemies’ land, that thou art waxen old in a strange country, that thou art defiled with the dead, 11 that thou art counted with them that [go down] into the grave? 12 Thou hast forsaken the fountain of wisdom. 13 [For] if thou hadst walked in the way of God, thou shouldest have dwelled in peace for ever. 14 Learn where is wisdom, where is strength, where is understanding; that thou mayest know also where is length of days, and life, where is the light of the eyes, and peace. 15 Who hath found out her place? and who hath come into her treasuries? 16 Where are the princes of the heathen, and such as ruled the beasts that are upon the earth; 17 they that had their pastime with the fowls of the air, and they that hoarded up silver and gold, wherein men trust; and of whose getting there is no end? 18 For they that wrought in silver, and were so careful, and whose works are past finding out, 19 they are vanished and gone down to the grave, and others are come up in their steads. 20 Younger men have seen the light, and dwelt upon the earth: but the way of knowledge have they not known, 21 neither understood they the paths thereof: neither have their children laid hold of it: they are far off from their way. 22 It hath not been heard of in Canaan, neither hath it been seen in Teman. 23 The sons also of Agar that seek understanding, which are in the land, the merchants of Merran and Teman, and the authors of fables, and the searchers out of understanding; none of these have known the way of wisdom, or remembered her paths. 24 O Israel, how great is the house of God! and how large is the place of his possession! 25 great, and hath none end; high, and unmeasurable. 26 There were the giants born that were famous of old, great of stature, [and] expert in war. 27 These did not God choose, neither gave he the way of knowledge unto them: 28 so they perished, because they had no wisdom, they perished through their own foolishness. 29 Who hath gone up into heaven, and taken her, and brought her down from the clouds? 30 Who hath gone over the sea, and found her, and will bring her for choice gold? 31 There is none that knoweth her way, nor any that comprehendeth her path. 32 But he that knoweth all things knoweth her, he found her out with his understanding: he that prepared the earth for evermore hath filled it with fourfooted beasts: 33 he that sendeth forth the light, and it goeth; he called it, and it obeyed him with fear: 34 and the stars shined in their watches, and were glad: when he called them, they said, Here we be; they shined with gladness unto him that made them. 35 This is our God, [and] there shall none other be accounted of in comparison of him. 36 He hath found out all the way of knowledge, and hath given it unto Jacob his servant, and to Israel that is beloved of him. 37 Afterward did she appear upon earth, and was conversant with men.

LXX2012(i) 1 O Lord Almighty, God of Israel, the soul in anguish the troubled spirit, cries to you. 2 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy; for you are merciful: and have pity upon us, because we have sinned before you. 3 For you endure for ever, and we perish utterly. 4 O Lord Almighty, you God of Israel, hear now the prayers of the dead Israelites, and of their children, which have sinned before you, and not listened to the voice of you their God: for the which cause these plagues cleave to us. 5 Remember not the iniquities of our forefathers: but think upon your power and your name now at this time. 6 For you are the Lord our God, and you, O Lord, will we praise. 7 And for this cause you have put your fear in our hearts, to the intent that we should call upon your name, and praise you in our captivity: for we have called to mind all the iniquity of our forefathers, that sinned before you. 8 Behold, we are yet this day in our captivity, where you have scattered us, for a reproach and a curse, and to be subject to payments, according to all the iniquities of our fathers, which departed from the Lord our God. 9 Hear, Israel, the commandments of life: give ear to understand wisdom. 10 How is it Israel, that you are in your enemies' land, that you have become old in a strange country, that you are defiled with the dead, 11 That you are counted with them that go down into the grave? 12 You have forsaken the fountain of wisdom. 13 For if you had walked in the way of God, you should have dwelled in peace for ever. 14 Learn where is wisdom, where is strength, where is understanding; that you may know also where is length of days, and life, where is the light of the eyes, and peace. 15 Who has found out her place? or who has come into her treasures? 16 Where are the princes of the heathen become, and such as ruled the beasts upon the earth; 17 They that had their pastime with the fowls of the air, and they that hoarded up silver and gold, wherein men trust, and made no end of their getting? 18 For they that wrought in silver, and were so careful, and whose works are unsearchable, 19 They are vanished and gone down to the grave, and others are come up in their steads. 20 Young men have seen light, and lived upon the earth: but the way of knowledge have they not known, 21 Nor understood the paths thereof, nor laid hold of it: their children were far off from that way. 22 It has not been heard of in Chanaan, neither has it been seen in Theman. 23 The Agarenes that seek wisdom upon earth, the merchants of Meran and of Theman, the authors of fables, and searchers out of understanding; none of these have known the way of wisdom, or remember her paths. 24 O Israel, how great is the house of God! and how large is the place of his possession! 25 Great, and has none end; high, and unmeasurable. 26 There were the giants famous from the beginning, that were of so great stature, and so expert in war. 27 Those did not the Lord choose, neither gave he the way of knowledge to them: 28 But they were destroyed, because they had no wisdom, and perished through their own foolishness. 29 Who has gone up into heaven, and taken her, and brought her down from the clouds? 30 Who has gone over the sea, and found her, and will bring her for pure gold? 31 No man knows her way, nor thinks of her path. 32 But he that knows all things knows her, and has found her out with his understanding: he that prepared the earth for evermore has filled it with four-footed beasts: 33 He that sends forth light, and it goes, calls it again, and it obeys him with fear. 34 The stars shined in their watches, and rejoiced: when he calls them, they say, Here we be; and so with cheerfulness they showed light to him that made them. 35 This is our God, and there shall none other be accounted of in comparison of him 36 He has found out all the way of knowledge, and has given it to Jacob his servant, and to Israel his beloved. 37 Afterward did he show himself upon earth, and conversed with men.
