Jeremiah 35:1-19 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah , saying,

2 H1980 [H8800] Go H1004 to the house H7397 of the Rechabites H1696 [H8765] , and speak H935 [H8689] to them, and bring H1004 them into the house H3068 of the LORD H259 , into one H3957 of the chambers H3196 , and give them wine H8248 [H8689] to drink.

3 H3947 [H8799] Then I took H2970 Jaazaniah H1121 the son H3414 of Jeremiah H1121 , the son H2262 of Habaziniah H251 , and his brethren H1121 , and all his sons H1004 , and the whole house H7397 of the Rechabites;

4 H935 [H8686] And I brought H1004 them into the house H3068 of the LORD H3957 , into the chamber H1121 of the sons H2605 of Hanan H1121 , the son H3012 of Igdaliah H376 , a man H430 of God H681 , who was by H3957 the chamber H8269 of the princes H4605 , which was above H3957 the chamber H4641 of Maaseiah H1121 the son H7967 of Shallum H8104 [H8802] , the keeper H5592 of the door:

5 H5414 [H8799] And I set H6440 before H1121 the sons H1004 of the house H7397 of the Rechabites H1375 pots H4392 full H3196 of wine H3563 , and cups H559 [H8799] , and I said H8354 [H8798] to them, Drink H3196 ye wine.

6 H559 [H8799] But they said H8354 [H8799] , We will drink H3196 no wine H3122 : for Jonadab H1121 the son H7394 of Rechab H1 our father H6680 [H8765] commanded H559 [H8800] us, saying H8354 [H8799] , Ye shall drink H3196 no wine H1121 , neither ye, nor your sons H5704 for H5769 ever:

7 H1129 [H8799] Neither shall ye build H1004 house H2232 [H8799] , nor sow H2233 seed H5193 [H8799] , nor plant H3754 vineyard H3117 , nor have any: but all your days H3427 [H8799] ye shall dwell H168 in tents H2421 [H8799] ; that ye may live H7227 many H3117 days H6440 in H127 the land H1481 [H8802] where ye are strangers.

8 H8085 [H8799] Thus have we obeyed H6963 the voice H3082 of Jonadab H1121 the son H7394 of Rechab H1 our father H6680 [H8765] in all that he hath charged H8354 [H8800] us, to drink H3196 no wine H3117 all our days H802 , we, our wives H1121 , our sons H1323 , nor our daughters;

9 H1129 [H8800] Nor to build H1004 houses H3427 [H8800] for us to dwell in H3754 : neither have we vineyard H7704 , nor field H2233 , nor seed:

10 H3427 [H8799] But we have dwelt in H168 tents H8085 [H8799] , and have obeyed H6213 [H8799] , and done H3122 according to all that Jonadab H1 our father H6680 [H8765] commanded us.

11 H5019 But it came to pass, when Nebuchadnezzar H4428 king H894 of Babylon H5927 [H8800] came up H776 into the land H559 [H8799] , that we said H935 [H8798] , Come H935 [H8799] , and let us go H3389 to Jerusalem H6440 for fear H2428 of the army H3778 of the Chaldeans H6440 , and for fear H2428 of the army H758 of the Syrians H3427 [H8799] : so we dwell H3389 at Jerusalem.

12 H1697 Then came the word H3068 of the LORD H3414 to Jeremiah H559 [H8800] , saying,

13 H559 [H8804] Thus saith H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts H430 , the God H3478 of Israel H1980 [H8800] ; Go H559 [H8804] and tell H376 the men H3063 of Judah H3427 [H8802] and the inhabitants H3389 of Jerusalem H3947 [H8799] , Will ye not receive H4148 instruction H8085 [H8800] to hearken H1697 to my words H5002 [H8803] ? saith H3068 the LORD.

14 H1697 The words H3082 of Jonadab H1121 the son H7394 of Rechab H6680 [H8765] , that he commanded H1121 his sons H8354 [H8800] not to drink H3196 wine H6965 [H8717] , are performed H3117 ; for to this day H8354 [H8804] they drink H8085 [H8804] none, but obey H1 their father's H4687 commandment H1696 [H8765] : however I have spoken H7925 [H8687] to you, rising early H1696 [H8763] and speaking H8085 [H8804] ; but ye hearkened not to me.

15 H7971 [H8799] I have sent H5650 also to you all my servants H5030 the prophets H7925 [H8687] , rising early H7971 [H8800] and sending H559 [H8800] them, saying H7725 [H8798] , Return H376 ye now every man H7451 from his evil H1870 way H3190 [H8685] , and amend H4611 your doings H3212 [H8799] , and go H310 not after H312 other H430 gods H5647 [H8800] to serve H3427 [H8798] them, and ye shall dwell in H127 the land H5414 [H8804] which I have given H1 to you and to your fathers H5186 [H8689] : but ye have not inclined H241 your ear H8085 [H8804] , nor hearkened to me.

16 H1121 Because the sons H3082 of Jonadab H1121 the son H7394 of Rechab H6965 [H8689] have performed H4687 the commandment H1 of their father H6680 [H8765] , which he commanded H5971 them; but this people H8085 [H8804] hath not hearkened to me:

17 H559 [H8804] Therefore thus saith H3068 the LORD H430 God H6635 of hosts H430 , the God H3478 of Israel H935 [H8688] ; Behold, I will bring H3063 upon Judah H3427 [H8802] and upon all the inhabitants H3389 of Jerusalem H7451 all the evil H1696 [H8765] that I have pronounced H1696 [H8765] against them: because I have spoken H8085 [H8804] to them, but they have not heard H7121 [H8799] ; and I have called H6030 [H8804] to them, but they have not answered.

18 H3414 And Jeremiah H559 [H8804] said H1004 to the house H7397 of the Rechabites H559 [H8804] , Thus saith H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts H430 , the God H3478 of Israel H8085 [H8804] ; Because ye have obeyed H4687 the commandment H3082 of Jonadab H1 your father H8104 [H8799] , and kept H4687 all his precepts H6213 [H8799] , and done H6680 [H8765] according to all that he hath commanded you:

19 H559 [H8804] Therefore thus saith H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts H430 , the God H3478 of Israel H3122 ; Jonadab H1121 the son H7394 of Rechab H3772 [H8735] shall not lack H376 a man H5975 [H8802] to stand H6440 before H3117 me for ever.
