Wycliffe(i) 1 Jhesus Naue, the successour of Moises in profetis, was strong in batel, that was greet bi his name. 2 The gretteste in to the helthe of chosun men of God, to ouercome enemyes risynge ayens hem, that he schulde gete the erytage of Israel. 3 Which glorie he gat in reysynge his hondis, and in castynge scharpe arowis ayens citees. 4 Who bifore hym ayenstood so? for whi the Lord hym silf smoot the enemyes. 5 Whether the sunne was not lettid in the wrathfulnesse of hym, and o dai was maad as tweyne? 6 He clepide to help the hiyeste God, myyti in ouercomynge enemyes on ech side; and God, greet and hooli, herde hym, in stoonys of hail of ful greet vertu. 7 He made asauyt ayens the folk enemy, and in the comynge doun he loste the aduersaries; 8 that hethene men knowe the myyt of hym, for it is not esy to fiyte ayens the Lord; and he suede myyti men at the bak. 9 And in the daies of Moises he and Caleph, the sone of Jephone, diden merci; to stonde ayens the enemye, and to forbede the folk fro synnes, and to refreyne the grutchyng of malice. 10 And thei tweyne weren stidfast, and weren delyuered fro perel, of the noumbre of sixe hundrid thousynde `foot men, to brynge hem in to the eritage, in to the lond that flowith mylk and hony. 11 And the Lord yaf strengthe to thilke Caleph, and til in to elde vertu dwellide perfitli to hym; that he stiede in to the hiy place of the lond, and his seed gat eritage. 12 And alle the children of Israel sien, that it is good to obeie to hooli God. 13 And alle iugis bi her name, the herte of whiche was not corrupt, weren strong in batel, which weren not turned awei fro the Lord; 14 that the mynde of hem be in blessyng, and her boonys apperen fro her place; 15 and her name dwellith with outen ende, for the glorie of hooli men dwellith at the sones of hem. 16 Samuel, the profete of the Lord, that was louyd of his Lord God, made newe the empire, and anoyntide prynces in his folk. 17 In the lawe of the Lord he demyde the congregacioun, and he siy the Lord of Jacob, and in his feith he was preued a profete. 18 And he was knowun feithful in hise wordis, for he siy the Lord of liyt. 19 And he clepide in to help the Lord almyyti, in ouercomynge enemyes stondynge aboute on ech side, in the offrynge of a man vndefoulid. 20 And the Lord thundride fro heuene, and in greet soun he made his vois herd. 21 And he al to-brak the princes of men of Tyre, and alle the duykis of Filisteis. 22 And bifore the tyme of ende of his lijf, and of the world, he yaf witnessyng in the siyt of the Lord, and of Crist; he took not of ony man richessis, yhe, til to schoon; and no man accuside hym. 23 And after this he slepte, and he made knowun to the kyng, and he schewide to hym the ende of his lijf; and he enhaunside his vois fro the erthe in profesie, to do awei the wickidnesse of the folc.
Geneva(i) 1 Iesus the sonne of Naue was valiant in the warres, and was the successour of Moyses in prophecies, who according vnto his name, was a great sauiour of the elect of God, to take vengeance of the enemies that rose vp against them, and to set Israel in their inheritance. 2 What glory gate hee, when hee lift vp his hand, and drewe out his sword against the cities? 3 Who was there before him, like to him? For he fought the battels of the Lord. 4 Stoode not the sunne still by his meanes, and one day was as long as two? 5 Hee called vnto the most High gouernour when the enemies preassed vpon him on euery side, and the mightie Lorde heard him with the haile stones, and with mightie power. 6 He rushed in vpon the nations in battell, and in the going downe of Bethoron he destroyed the aduersaries, that they might know his weapons, and that he fought in the sight of the Lorde: for hee followed the Almightie. 7 In the time of Moyses also hee did a good worke: he and Caleb the sonne of Iephune stood against the enemie, and withhelde the people from sinne, and appeased the wicked murmuring. 8 And of sixe hundred thousand people of foote, they two were preserued to bring them into the heritage, euen into the land that floweth with milke and hony. 9 The Lord gaue strength also vnto Caleb, which remained with him vnto his olde age, so that he went vp into the hie places of the land, and his seede obteined it for an heritage, 10 That all the children of Israel might see, that it is good to followe the Lord. 11 Concerning the Iudges, euery one by name, whose heart went not a whoring, nor departed from the Lord, their memorie be blessed. 12 Let their bones flourish out of their place, & their names by succession remaine to them that are most famous of their children. 13 Samuel the Prophet of the Lorde, beloued of his Lord, ordeined Kings, & anointed theprinces ouer his people. 14 By the Lawe of the Lord he iudged the congregation, and the Lord had respect vnto Iacob. 15 This Prophet was approued for his faithfulnesse, and he was knowen faithfull in his wordes and visions. 16 He called vpon the Lord Almightie, when his enemies preassed vpon him on euery side, when he offered the sucking lambe. 17 And the Lorde thundred from heauen, and made his voyce to be heard with a great noyse. 18 So he discomfited the Princes of the Tyrians, and all the rulers of the Philistims. 19 And before his long sleepe he made protestation in the sight of the Lorde, and his anointed, that he tooke no substance of any man, no, not so much as a shooe, and no man coulde accuse him. 20 After his sleepe also he told of ye Kings death, and from the earth lift he vp his voyce, & prophesied that the wickednesse of the people should perish.
Bishops(i) 1 Manly & strong in battel was Iesus the sonne of Naue, and was the successour of Moyses in prophesies, & was geuen to be captaine of the people, which according vnto his name was a great sauiour vnto the elect of God, to punishe the enemies that rose vp against Israel, that Israel might optayne their inheritaunce. 2 O how great, noble, and excellent was he, when he lift vp his hande and drewe out his sworde against the cities? 3 Who stoode so manly before him? for the Lord him selfe brought in the enemies? 4 Stoode not the sunne still at his commaundement, and one day was as long as two? 5 He called vpon the hyghest and most mightie when the enemies preassed vpon him on euery side, and the mightie Lord heard him with the hayle stones. 6 They smote the Heathenishe people mightyly, and in falling downe they slue all the aduersaries: so that the heathen knew his hoast, and all his defence, that the Lord him selfe fought against them: for he folowed vpon the mightie men of them. 7 In the time of Moyses also, he and Caleb the sonne of Iephune dyd a good worke, whiche stoode against the enemies, withheld the people from sinne, and stilled the wicked murmuring. 8 And of sixe hundreth thousande people of foote, they two were preserued to bring them into the heritage, namely, a lande that floweth with mylke & hony. 9 The Lord gaue strength also vnto Caleb, which remayned with him vnto his age: so that he went vp into the hie places of the land, and his seede conquered the same for an heritage: 10 That al the children of Israel might see howe good a thing it is to be obedient vnto the Lorde. 11 And the iudges or rulers euery one after his name, whose heart went not a whoring nor departed from the Lorde, and that forsooke not the Lord vnfaithfully, whose remembraunce hath a good report. 12 Yea their bones florishe out of their place, and their names shall neuer be chaunged: but honour remayneth still with the children of those holy men: 13 Samuel the prophete, beloued of the Lorde his God, ordayned a king, and annoynted the princes ouer the people. 14 In the lawe of the Lord ruled he, and iudged the congregation, and the Lorde had respect vnto Iacob. 15 The prophete was founde diligent in his faithfulnes: yea & he is knowen faithful in his workes, because he sawe the God of light. 16 He called vpon the Lorde almightie, when the enemies preassed vpon him on euery side, what time as he offered the sucking lambe. 17 And the Lorde thundered from heauen, & made his voyce to be heard with a great noyse. 18 He discomfited the princes of Tyre, and all the rulers of the Philistines. 19 Before his last ende, he made protestation in the sight of the Lorde and his annoynted, that he toke neither substaunce nor good of any man, no not so much as a shoe: and no man might accuse him. 20 After this he tolde that his ende was at hand, and shewed the king also his ende and death: and from the earth lyft he vp his voyce in the prophecie, that the vngodlie people should perishe.
DouayRheims(i) 1 VALIANT in war was Jesus the son of Nave, who was successor of Moses among the prophets, who was great according to his name, 2 Very great for the saving the elect of God, to overthrow the enemies that rose up against them, that he might get the inheritance for Israel. 3 How great glory did he gain when he lifted up his hands, and stretched out swords against the cities? 4 Who before him hath so resisted? for the Lord himself brought the enemies. 5 Was not the sun stopped in his anger, and one day made as two? 6 He called upon the most high Sovereign when the enemies assaulted him on every side, and the great and holy God heard him by hailstones of exceeding great force. 7 He made a violent assault against the nation of his enemies, and in the descent he destroyed the adversaries. 8 That the nations might know his power, that it is not easy to fight against God. And he followed the mighty one: 9 And in the days of Moses he did a work of mercy, he and Caleb the son of Jephone, in standing against the enemy, and withholding the people from sins, and appeasing the wicked murmuring. 10 And they two being appointed, were delivered out of the danger from among the number of six hundred thousand men on foot, to bring them into their inheritance, into the land that floweth with milk and honey. 11 And the Lord gave strength also to Caleb, and his strength continued even to his old age, so that he went up to the high places of the land, and his seed obtained it for an inheritance: 12 That all the children of Israel might see, that it is good to obey the holy God. 13 Then all the judges, every one by name, whose heart was not corrupted: who turned not away from the Lord, 14 That their memory might be blessed, and their bones spring up out of their place, 15 And their name continue for ever, the glory of the holy men remaining unto their children. 16 Samuel the prophet of the Lord, the beloved of the Lord his God, established a new government, and anointed princes over his people. 17 By the law of the Lord he judged the congregation, and the God of Jacob beheld, and by his fidelity he was proved a prophet. 18 And he was known to be faithful in his words, because he saw the God of light: 19 And called upon the name of the Lord Almighty, in fighting against the enemies who beset him on every side, when he offered a lamb without blemish. 20 And the Lord thundered from heaven, and with a great noise made his voice to be heard. 21 And he crushed the princes of the Tyrians, and all the lords of the Philistines: 22 And before the time of the end of his life in the world, he protested before the Lord, and his anointed: money, or any thing else, even to a shoe, he had not taken of any man, and no mall did accuse him. 23 And after this he slept, and he made known to the king, and shewed him the end of his life, and he lifted up his voice from the earth in prophecy to blot out the wickedness of the nation.
KJV(i) 1 Jesus the son a Nave was valiant in the wars, and was the successor of Moses in prophecies, who according to his name was made great for the saving of the elect of God, and taking vengeance of the enemies that rose up against them, that he might set Israel in their inheritance. 2 How great glory gat he, when he did lift up his hands, and stretched out his sword against the cities! 3 Who before him so stood to it? for the Lord himself brought his enemies unto him. 4 Did not the sun go back by his means? and was not one day as long as two? 5 He called upon the most high Lord, when the enemies pressed upon him on every side; and the great Lord heard him. 6 And with hailstones of mighty power he made the battle to fall violently upon the nations, and in the descent [of Beth-horon] he destroyed them that resisted, that the nations might know all their strength, because he fought in the sight of the Lord, and he followed the Mighty One. 7 In the time of Moses also he did a work of mercy, he and Caleb the son of Jephunne, in that they withstood the congregation, and withheld the people from sin, and appeased the wicked murmuring. 8 And of six hundred thousand people on foot, they two were preserved to bring them in to the heritage, even unto the land that floweth with milk and honey. 9 The Lord gave strength also unto Caleb, which remained with him unto his old age: so that he entered upon the high places of the land, and his seed obtained it for an heritage: 10 That all the children of Israel might see that it is good to follow the Lord. 11 And concerning the judges, every one by name, whose heart went not a whoring, nor departed from the Lord, let their memory be blessed. 12 Let their bones flourish out of their place, and let the name of them that were honoured be continued upon their children. 13 Samuel, the prophet of the Lord, beloved of his Lord, established a kingdom, and anointed princes over his people. 14 By the law of the Lord he judged the congregation, and the Lord had respect unto Jacob. 15 By his faithfulness he was found a true prophet, and by his word he was known to be faithful in vision. 16 He called upon the mighty Lord, when his enemies pressed upon him on every side, when he offered the sucking lamb. 17 And the Lord thundered from heaven, and with a great noise made his voice to be heard. 18 And he destroyed the rulers of the Tyrians, and all the princes cf the Philistines. 19 And before his long sleep he made protestations in the sight of the Lord and his anointed, I have not taken any man's goods, so much as a shoe: and no man did accuse him. 20 And after his death he prophesied, and shewed the king his end, and lifted up his voice from the earth in prophecy, to blot out the wickedness of the people.

ERV(i) 1 Joshua the son of Nun was valiant in war, And was the successor of Moses in prophecies: Who according to his name was made great For the saving of God’s elect, To take vengeance of the enemies that rose up against them, That he might give Israel their inheritance. 2 How was he glorified in the lifting up his hands, And in stretching out his sword against the cities! 3 Who before him so stood fast? For the Lord himself brought his enemies unto him. 4 Did not the sun go back by his hand? And did not one day become as two? 5 He called upon the Most High [and] Mighty One, When his foes pressed him round about; And the great Lord heard him. 6 With hailstones of mighty power He caused war to break violently upon the nation, And in the going down he destroyed them that resisted; That the nations might know his armour, How that he fought in the sight of the Lord; For he followed after the Mighty One. 7 Also in the time of Moses he did a work of mercy, He and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, In that they withstood the adversary, Hindered the people from sin, And stilled the murmuring of wickedness. 8 And of six hundred thousand people on foot, they two alone were preserved To bring them into the heritage, Even into a land flowing with milk and honey. 9 Also the Lord gave strength unto Caleb, And it remained with him unto his old age; So that he entered upon the height of the land, And his seed obtained it for a heritage: 10 That all the children of Israel might see That it is good to walk after the Lord. 11 Also the judges, every one by his name, All whose hearts went not a whoring, And who turned not away from the Lord, May their memorial be blessed. 12 May their bones flourish again out of their place, And may the name of them that have been honoured be renewed upon their children. 13 Samuel, the prophet of the Lord, beloved of his Lord, Established a kingdom, and anointed princes over his people. 14 By the law of the Lord he judged the congregation, And the Lord visited Jacob. 15 By his faithfulness he was proved to be a prophet, And by his words he was known to be faithful in vision. 16 Also when his enemies pressed him round about He called upon the Lord, the Mighty One, With the offering of the sucking lamb. 17 And the Lord thundered from heaven, And with a mighty sound made his voice to be heard. 18 And he utterly destroyed the rulers of the Tyrians, And all the princes of the Philistines. 19 Also before the time of his long sleep He made protestations in the sight of the lord and [his] anointed, I have not taken any man’s goods, so much as a shoe: And no man did accuse him. 20 And after he fell asleep he prophesied, And shewed the king his end, And lifted up his voice from the earth in prophecy, To blot out the wickedness of the people.

LXX2012(i) 1 Jesus the son a Nave was valiant in the wars, and was the successor of Moses in prophecies, who according to his name was made great for the saving of the elect of God, and taking vengeance of the enemies that rose up against them, that he might set Israel in their inheritance. 2 How great glory got he, when he did lift up his hands, and stretched out his sword against the cities! 3 Who before him so stood to it? for the Lord himself brought his enemies to him. 8 And of six hundred thousand people on foot, they two were preserved to bring them in to the heritage, even to the land that flows with milk and honey. 9 The Lord gave strength also to Caleb, which remained with him to his old age: so that he entered upon the high places of the land, and his seed obtained it for an heritage: 10 That all the children of Israel might see that it is good to follow the Lord. 11 And concerning the judges, every one by name, whose heart went not a whoring, nor departed from the Lord, let their memory be blessed. 12 Let their bones flourish out of their place, and let the name of them that were honored be continued upon their children. 13 Samuel, the prophet of the Lord, beloved of his Lord, established a kingdom, and anointed princes over his people. 14 By the law of the Lord he judged the congregation, and the Lord had respect to Jacob. 18 And he destroyed the rulers of the Tyrians, and all the princes of the Philistines. 19 And before his long sleep he made protestations in the sight of the Lord and his anointed, I have not taken any man's goods, so much as a shoe: and no man did accuse him. 20 And after his death he prophesied, and showed the king his end, and lifted up his voice from the earth in prophecy, to blot out the wickedness of the people.
