22 For they can suddenly punish the wicked; and their punishments who can know? A son who keepeth the word shall be far from destruction; for he hath received it to effect. Let no falsehood be uttered from the mouth of a king, and from his mouth let no falsehood proceed. The tongue of a king is a sword and not flesh; whoever is delivered up to it shall be destroyed. For if his wrath be sharpened, it consumeth men with thongs, and devoureth the bones of men; or like a flame, burneth them up, so that they cannot be devoured by young eagles. My son, be awed by these words of mine, receive them and reform.

22 For they will suddenly punish the ungodly, and who can know the vengeance inflicted by both? (24:22A) {\I A son that keeps the commandment shall escape destruction; for {\I such an one has fully received it. (24:22B) Let no falsehood be spoken by the king from the tongue; yea, let no falsehood proceed from his tongue. (24:22C) The king's tongue is a sword, and not one of flesh; and whosoever shall be given up to it shall be destroyed: (24:22D) for if his wrath should be provoked, he destroys men with cords, (24:22E) and devours men's bones, and burns them up as a flame, so that they are not even fit to be eaten by the young eagles. (24:22F) My son, reverence my words, and receive them, and repent.}}

29:27Publisher’s note: Moved left bracket to beginning of verse to match location in English translation.

22 For they will suddenly punish the ungodly, and who can know the vengeance [inflicted] by both? [A son that keeps the commandment shall escape destruction; for [such an one] has fully received it. Let no falsehood be spoken by the king from the tongue; yes, let no falsehood proceed from his tongue. The king's tongue is a sword, and not one of flesh; and whoever shall be given up to [it] shall be destroyed: for if his wrath should be provoked, he destroys men with cords, and devours men's bones, and burns them up as a flame, so that they are not [even] fit to be eaten by the young eagles. [My] son, reverence my words, and receive them, and repent.]
