Zechariah 7 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius , that the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month , even in Chisleu;

2 H7971 When they had sent [H8799] H1004 unto the house H410 of God H8272 Sherezer H7278 and Regemmelech H582 , and their men H2470 , to pray [H8763] H6440 before H3068 the LORD,

3 H559 And to speak [H8800] H3548 unto the priests H1004 which were in the house H3068 of the LORD H6635 of hosts H5030 , and to the prophets H559 , saying [H8800] H1058 , Should I weep [H8799] H2549 in the fifth H2320 month H5144 , separating [H8736] H6213 myself, as I have done [H8804] H8141 these so many years?

4 H1697 Then came the word H3068 of the LORD H6635 of hosts H559 unto me, saying [H8800] ,

5 H559 Speak [H8798] H5971 unto all the people H776 of the land H3548 , and to the priests H559 , saying [H8800] H6684 , When ye fasted [H8804] H5594 and mourned [H8800] H2549 in the fifth H7637 and seventh H7657 month, even those seventy H8141 years H6684 , did ye at all [H8800] H6684 fast [H8804] unto me, even to me?

6 H398 And when ye did eat [H8799] H8354 , and when ye did drink [H8799] H398 , did not ye eat [H8802] H8354 for yourselves, and drink [H8802] for yourselves ?

7 H1697 Should ye not hear the words H3068 which the LORD H7121 hath cried [H8804] H3027 by H7223 the former H5030 prophets H3389 , when Jerusalem H3427 was inhabited [H8802] H7961 and in prosperity H5892 , and the cities H5439 thereof round about her H3427 , when men inhabited [H8802] H5045 the south H8219 and the plain?

8 H1697 And the word H3068 of the LORD H2148 came unto Zechariah H559 , saying [H8800] ,

9 H559 Thus speaketh [H8804] H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts H559 , saying [H8800] H8199 , Execute [H8798] H571 true H4941 judgment H6213 , and shew [H8798] H2617 mercy H7356 and compassions H376 every man H251 to his brother:

10 H6231 And oppress [H8799] H490 not the widow H3490 , nor the fatherless H1616 , the stranger H6041 , nor the poor H2803 ; and let none of you imagine [H8799] H7451 evil H376 against H251 his brother H3824 in your heart.

11 H3985 But they refused [H8762] H7181 to hearken [H8687] H5414 , and pulled away [H8799] H5637 [H8802] H3802 the shoulder H3513 , and stopped [H8689] H241 their ears H8085 , that they should not hear [H8800] .

12 H7760 Yea, they made [H8804] H3820 their hearts H8068 as an adamant stone H8085 , lest they should hear [H8800] H8451 the law H1697 , and the words H3068 which the LORD H6635 of hosts H7971 hath sent [H8804] H7307 in his spirit H3027 by H7223 the former H5030 prophets H1419 : therefore came a great H7110 wrath H3068 from the LORD H6635 of hosts.

13 H7121 Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried [H8804] H8085 , and they would not hear [H8804] H7121 ; so they cried [H8799] H8085 , and I would not hear [H8799] H559 , saith [H8804] H3068 the LORD H6635 of hosts:

14 H5590 But I scattered them with a whirlwind [H8762] H1471 among all the nations H3045 whom they knew [H8804] H776 not. Thus the land H8074 was desolate [H8738] H310 after H5674 them, that no man passed through [H8802] H7725 nor returned [H8802] H7760 : for they laid [H8799] H2532 the pleasant H776 land H8047 desolate.

ERV⁽ⁱ⁾ ¹ And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth [day] of the ninth month, even in Chislev. ² Now [they of] Beth-el had sent Sharezer and Regem-melech, and their men, to entreat the favour of the LORD, ³ [and] to speak unto the priests of the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years? ⁴ Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying, ⁵ Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh [month], even these seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me? ⁶ And when ye eat, and when ye drink, do not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves? ⁷ [Should ye] not [hear] the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, and the South and the lowland were inhabited? ⁸ And the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, saying, ⁹ Thus hath the LORD of hosts spoken, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassion every man to his brother: ¹⁰ and oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart. ¹¹ But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. ¹² Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by his spirit by the hand of the former prophets: therefore came there great wrath from the LORD of hosts. ¹³ And it came to pass that, as he cried, and they would not hear; so they shall cry, and I will not hear, said the LORD of hosts; ¹⁴ but I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.
