CONCERNING FASTING
And so be it, in the fourth year of sovereign Daryavesh, so be the word of Yah Veh to Zechar Yah in the fourth of the ninth month, in Kislav; 2 and Beth El sends Shareser and Regem Melech and their men to stroke the face of Yah Veh; 3 and to say to the priests in the house of Yah Veh Sabaoth and to the prophets, saying, Weep I, in the fifth month, separating myself, as I worked these so many years? 4 And so be the word of Yah Veh Sabaoth to me, saying, 5 Speak to all the people of the land and to the priests, saying, When you fasted and chopped in the fifth and seventh - even these seventy years, in fasting, fasted you to me - me? 6 And when you ate and when you drank ate you not, and drank you not for yourselves? 7 Are not these the words Yah Veh called out by the hand of the former prophets when Yeru Shalem settled serene? And the cities all around her when they settled the south and the lowland? 8 And so be the word of Yah Veh to Zechar Yah, saying, 9 Thus says Yah Veh Sabaoth: saying, Judge judgment in truth, and every man, work mercy and mercies to his brother: 10 and oppress not widow and orphan, sojourner and humble; and no man of you fabricate evil against his brother in your heart. 11 And they refuse to hearken; and give a revolting shoulder and heavy their ears that they hear not. 12 Yes, they set their hearts as a brier lest they hear the torah and the words Yah Veh Sabaoth sends his spirit by the hand of the former prophets: and so be it, a great rage from Yah Veh Sabaoth. 13 and so be it, as he calls, and they hearken not; thus they call, and I hearken not, says Yah Veh Sabaoth: 14 and I storm them among all the goyim whom they know not: and thus desolate the land after them, so that one neither passes through nor returns: for they desolate their land of desire.
