  3 H3124 But Jonah H6965 [H8799] arose H1272 [H8800] to flee H8659 to Tarshish H6440 from the presence H3068 of the LORD H3381 [H8799] , and went down H3305 to Joppa H4672 [H8799] ; and he found H591 a ship H935 [H8802] going H8659 to Tarshish H5414 [H8799] : so he paid H7939 its fare H3381 [H8799] , and went down H935 [H8800] into it, to go H8659 with them to Tarshish H6440 from the presence H3068 of the LORD.
  4 H3068 But the LORD H2904 [H8689] sent out H1419 a great H7307 wind H3220 into the sea H1419 , and there was a mighty H5591 tempest H3220 in the sea H591 , so that the ship H2803 [H8765] was in danger H7665 [H8736] of being broken.
  5 H4419 Then the mariners H3372 [H8799] were afraid H2199 [H8799] , and cried H376 every man H430 to his god H2904 [H8686] , and cast H3627 the wares H591 that were in the ship H3220 into the sea H7043 [H8687] , to lighten H3124 it of them. But Jonah H3381 [H8804] had gone down H3411 into the sides H5600 of the ship H7901 [H8799] ; and he lay H7290 [H8735] , and was fast asleep.

  7 H559 [H8799] And they said H376 every one H7453 to another H3212 [H8798] , Come H5307 [H8686] , and let us cast H1486 lots H3045 [H8799] , that we may know H7945 for whose cause H7451 this evil H5307 [H8686] is upon us. So they cast H1486 lots H1486 , and the lot H5307 [H8799] fell H3124 upon Jonah.
  8 H559 [H8799] Then said H5046 [H8685] they to him, Tell H7451 us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil H4399 is upon us; What is thy occupation H370 ? and from where H935 [H8799] comest H776 thou? what is thy country H5971 ? and of what people art thou?
  9 H559 [H8799] And he said H5680 to them, I am an Hebrew H3373 ; and I fear H3068 the LORD H430 , the God H8064 of heaven H6213 [H8804] , who hath made H3220 the sea H3004 and the dry land.
  10 H582 Then were the men H1419 H3374 exceedingly H3372 [H8799] afraid H559 [H8799] , and said H6213 [H8804] to him, Why hast thou done H582 this? For the men H3045 [H8804] knew H1272 [H8802] that he fled H6440 from the presence H3068 of the LORD H5046 [H8689] , because he had told them.
  11 H559 [H8799] Then said H6213 [H8799] they to him, What shall we do H3220 to thee, that the sea H8367 [H8799] may be calm H3220 to us? for the sea H1980 [H8802] raged H5590 [H8802] , and was tempestuous.
  12 H559 [H8799] And he said H5375 [H8798] to them, Take me H2904 [H8685] , and cast me H3220 into the sea H3220 ; so shall the sea H8367 [H8799] be calm H3045 [H8802] to you: for I know H7945 that for my sake H1419 this great H5591 tempest is upon you.

  16 H582 Then the men H3372 [H8799] feared H3068 the LORD H1419 H3374 exceedingly H2076 [H8799] , and offered H2077 a sacrifice H3068 to the LORD H5087 [H8799] , and made H5088 vows.
  17 H3068 Now the LORD H4487 [H8762] had prepared H1419 a great H1709 fish H1104 [H8800] to swallow up H3124 Jonah H3124 . And Jonah H4578 was in the belly H1709 of the fish H7969 three H3117 days H7969 and three H3915 nights.
