Jonah

KJV_Strongs(i)
H1697 Now the word H3068 of the LORD H3124 came unto Jonah H1121 the son H573 of Amittai H559 , saying [H8800]  ,
H6965 Arise [H8798]   H3212 , go [H8798]   H5210 to Nineveh H1419 , that great H5892 city H7121 , and cry [H8798]   H7451 against it; for their wickedness H5927 is come up [H8804]   H6440 before me.
H3124 But Jonah H6965 rose up [H8799]   H1272 to flee [H8800]   H8659 unto Tarshish H6440 from the presence H3068 of the LORD H3381 , and went down [H8799]   H3305 to Joppa H4672 ; and he found [H8799]   H591 a ship H935 going [H8802]   H8659 to Tarshish H5414 : so he paid [H8799]   H7939 the fare H3381 thereof, and went down [H8799]   H935 into it, to go [H8800]   H8659 with them unto Tarshish H6440 from the presence H3068 of the LORD.
H3068 But the LORD H2904 sent out [H8689]   H1419 a great H7307 wind H3220 into the sea H1419 , and there was a mighty H5591 tempest H3220 in the sea H591 , so that the ship H2803 was like [H8765]   H7665 to be broken [H8736]  .
H4419 Then the mariners H3372 were afraid [H8799]   H2199 , and cried [H8799]   H376 every man H430 unto his god H2904 , and cast forth [H8686]   H3627 the wares H591 that were in the ship H3220 into the sea H7043 , to lighten [H8687]   H3124 it of them. But Jonah H3381 was gone down [H8804]   H3411 into the sides H5600 of the ship H7901 ; and he lay [H8799]   H7290 , and was fast asleep [H8735]  .
H7227 So the shipmaster H2259   H7126 came [H8799]   H559 to him, and said [H8799]   H7290 unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper [H8737]   H6965 ? arise [H8798]   H7121 , call [H8798]   H430 upon thy God H430 , if so be that God H6245 will think [H8691]   H6 upon us, that we perish [H8799]   not.
H559 And they said [H8799]   H376 every one H7453 to his fellow H3212 , Come [H8798]   H5307 , and let us cast [H8686]   H1486 lots H3045 , that we may know [H8799]   H7945 for whose cause H7451 this evil H5307 is upon us. So they cast [H8686]   H1486 lots H1486 , and the lot H5307 fell [H8799]   H3124 upon Jonah.
H559 Then said [H8799]   H5046 they unto him, Tell [H8685]   H7451 us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil H4399 is upon us; What is thine occupation H370 ? and whence H935 comest [H8799]   H776 thou? what is thy country H5971 ? and of what people art thou?
H559 And he said [H8799]   H5680 unto them, I am an Hebrew H3373 ; and I fear H3068 the LORD H430 , the God H8064 of heaven H6213 , which hath made [H8804]   H3220 the sea H3004 and the dry land .
H582 Then were the men H1419 exceedingly H3374   H3372 afraid [H8799]   H559 , and said [H8799]   H6213 unto him, Why hast thou done [H8804]   H582 this? For the men H3045 knew [H8804]   H1272 that he fled [H8802]   H6440 from the presence H3068 of the LORD H5046 , because he had told [H8689]   them.
H559 Then said [H8799]   H6213 they unto him, What shall we do [H8799]   H3220 unto thee, that the sea H8367 may be calm [H8799]   H3220 unto us? for the sea H1980 wrought [H8802]   H5590 , and was tempestuous [H8802]  .
H559 And he said [H8799]   H5375 unto them, Take me up [H8798]   H2904 , and cast me forth [H8685]   H3220 into the sea H3220 ; so shall the sea H8367 be calm [H8799]   H3045 unto you: for I know [H8802]   H7945 that for my sake H1419 this great H5591 tempest is upon you.
H582 Nevertheless the men H2864 rowed hard [H8799]   H7725 to bring [H8687]   H3004 it to the land H3201 ; but they could [H8804]   H3220 not: for the sea H1980 wrought [H8802]   H5590 , and was tempestuous [H8802]   against them.
H7121 Wherefore they cried [H8799]   H3068 unto the LORD H559 , and said [H8799]   H577 , We beseech thee H3068 , O LORD H6 , we beseech thee, let us not perish [H8799]   H376 for this man's H5315 life H5414 , and lay [H8799]   H5355 not upon us innocent [H8675]   H5355   H1818 blood H3068 : for thou, O LORD H6213 , hast done [H8804]   H2654 as it pleased [H8804]   thee.
H5375 So they took up [H8799]   H3124 Jonah H2904 , and cast him forth [H8686]   H3220 into the sea H3220 : and the sea H5975 ceased [H8799]   H2197 from her raging.
H582 Then the men H3372 feared [H8799]   H3068 the LORD H1419 exceedingly H3374   H2076 , and offered [H8799]   H2077 a sacrifice H3068 unto the LORD H5087 , and made [H8799]   H5088 vows.
H3068 Now the LORD H4487 had prepared [H8762]   H1419 a great H1709 fish H1104 to swallow up [H8800]   H3124 Jonah H3124 . And Jonah H4578 was in the belly H1709 of the fish H7969 three H3117 days H7969 and three H3915 nights.
KJV(i) 1 Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. 3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. 4 But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken. 5 Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep. 6 So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not. 7 And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah. 8 Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou? 9 And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land. 10 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him. Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them. 11 Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous. 12 And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you. 13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them. 14 Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee. 15 So they look up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging. 16 Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows. 17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
