Jonah 4

  1 H3415 But it displeased [H8799]   H3124 Jonah H1419 exceedingly H7451   H2734 , and he was very angry [H8799]  .

  2 H6419 And he prayed [H8691]   H3068 unto the LORD H559 , and said [H8799]   H577 , I pray H3068 thee, O LORD H1697 , was not this my saying H127 , when I was yet in my country H1272 ? Therefore I fled [H8800]   H6923 before [H8765]   H8659 unto Tarshish H3045 : for I knew [H8804]   H2587 that thou art a gracious H410 God H7349 , and merciful H750 , slow H639 to anger H7227 , and of great H2617 kindness H5162 , and repentest [H8737]   H7451 thee of the evil.

  3 H3068 Therefore now, O LORD H3947 , take [H8798]   H5315 , I beseech thee, my life H2896 from me; for it is better H4194 for me to die H2416 than to live.

  4 H559 Then said [H8799]   H3068 the LORD H3190 , Doest thou well [H8687]   H2734 to be angry [H8804]  ?

  5 H3124 So Jonah H3318 went out [H8799]   H5892 of the city H3427 , and sat [H8799]   H6924 on the east side H5892 of the city H6213 , and there made [H8799]   H5521 him a booth H3427 , and sat [H8799]   H6738 under it in the shadow H7200 , till he might see [H8799]   H5892 what would become of the city.

  6 H3068 And the LORD H430 God H4487 prepared [H8762]   H7021 a gourd H5927 , and made it to come up [H8799]   H3124 over Jonah H6738 , that it might be a shadow H7218 over his head H5337 , to deliver [H8687]   H7451 him from his grief H3124 . So Jonah H1419 was exceeding H8057   H8055 glad [H8799]   H7021 of the gourd.

  7 H430 But God H4487 prepared [H8762]   H8438 a worm H7837 when the morning H5927 rose [H8800]   H4283 the next day H5221 , and it smote [H8686]   H7021 the gourd H3001 that it withered [H8799]  .

  8 H8121 And it came to pass, when the sun H2224 did arise [H8800]   H430 , that God H4487 prepared [H8762]   H2759 a vehement H6921 east H7307 wind H8121 ; and the sun H5221 beat [H8686]   H7218 upon the head H3124 of Jonah H5968 , that he fainted [H8691]   H7592 , and wished [H8799]   H5315 in himself H4191 to die [H8800]   H559 , and said [H8799]   H2896 , It is better H4194 for me to die H2416 than to live.

  9 H430 And God H559 said [H8799]   H3124 to Jonah H3190 , Doest thou well [H8687]   H2734 to be angry [H8804]   H7021 for the gourd H559 ? And he said [H8799]   H3190 , I do well [H8687]   H2734 to be angry [H8804]   H4194 , even unto death.

  10 H559 Then said [H8799]   H3068 the LORD H2347 , Thou hast had pity [H8804]   H7021 on the gourd H5998 , for the which thou hast not laboured [H8804]   H1431 , neither madest it grow [H8765]   H1121 ; which came up in a night H3915   H6 , and perished [H8804]   H1121 in a night H3915  :

  11 H2347 And should not I spare [H8799]   H5210 Nineveh H1419 , that great H5892 city H3426 , wherein are H7235 more [H8687]   H8147 than sixscore H6240   H7239 thousand H120 persons H3045 that cannot discern [H8804]   H3225 between their right hand H8040 and their left hand H7227 ; and also much H929 cattle?
