H3427 When thou sittest [H8799]   H3898 to eat [H8800]   H4910 with a ruler [H8802]   H995 , consider [H8799]   H995 diligently [H8800]   H6440 what is before thee:
H7760 And put [H8804]   H7915 a knife H3930 to thy throat H1167 , if thou be a man given H5315 to appetite.
H183 Be not desirous [H8691]   H4303 of his dainties H3577 : for they are deceitful H3899 meat.
H3021 Labour [H8799]   H6238 not to be rich [H8687]   H2308 : cease [H8798]   H998 from thine own wisdom.
H5774 Wilt thou set [H8686]   [H8675]   H5774   [H8799]   H5869 thine eyes H6213 upon that which is not? for riches certainly [H8800]   H6213 make [H8799]   H3671 themselves wings H5774 ; they fly away [H8799]   [H8675]   H5774   [H8687]   H5404 as an eagle H8064 toward heaven.
H3898 Eat [H8799]   H3899 thou not the bread H7451 of him that hath an evil H5869 eye H183 , neither desire [H8691]   H4303 thou his dainty meats:
H8176 For as he thinketh [H8804]   H5315 in his heart H398 , so is he: Eat [H8798]   H8354 and drink [H8798]   H559 , saith [H8799]   H3820 he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
H6595 The morsel H398 which thou hast eaten [H8804]   H6958 shalt thou vomit up [H8686]   H7843 , and lose [H8765]   H5273 thy sweet H1697 words.
H1696 Speak [H8762]   H241 not in the ears H3684 of a fool H936 : for he will despise [H8799]   H7922 the wisdom H4405 of thy words.
H5253 Remove [H8686]   H5769 not the old H1366 landmark H935 ; and enter [H8799]   H7704 not into the fields H3490 of the fatherless:
H1350 For their redeemer [H8802]   H2389 is mighty H7378 ; he shall plead [H8799]   H7379 their cause with thee.
H935 Apply [H8685]   H3820 thine heart H4148 unto instruction H241 , and thine ears H561 to the words H1847 of knowledge.
H4513 Withhold [H8799]   H4148 not correction H5288 from the child H5221 : for if thou beatest [H8686]   H7626 him with the rod H4191 , he shall not die [H8799]  .
H5221 Thou shalt beat [H8686]   H7626 him with the rod H5337 , and shalt deliver [H8686]   H5315 his soul H7585 from hell.
H1121 My son H3820 , if thine heart H2449 be wise [H8804]   H3820 , my heart H8055 shall rejoice [H8799]   H589 , even mine.
H3629 Yea, my reins H5937 shall rejoice [H8799]   H8193 , when thy lips H1696 speak [H8763]   H4339 right things.
H3820 Let not thine heart H7065 envy [H8762]   H2400 sinners H3374 : but be thou in the fear H3068 of the LORD H3117 all the day long.
H3426 For surely there is H319 an end H8615 ; and thine expectation H3772 shall not be cut off [H8735]  .
H8085 Hear [H8798]   H1121 thou, my son H2449 , and be wise [H8798]   H833 , and guide [H8761]   H3820 thine heart H1870 in the way.
H3196 Be not among winebibbers H5433   [H8802]   H2151 ; among riotous eaters [H8802]   H1320 of flesh:
H5433 For the drunkard [H8802]   H2151 and the glutton [H8802]   H3423 shall come to poverty [H8735]   H5124 : and drowsiness H3847 shall clothe [H8686]   H7168 a man with rags.
H8085 Hearken [H8798]   H1 unto thy father H3205 that begat [H8804]   H936 thee, and despise [H8799]   H517 not thy mother H2204 when she is old [H8804]  .
H7069 Buy [H8798]   H571 the truth H4376 , and sell [H8799]   H2451 it not; also wisdom H4148 , and instruction H998 , and understanding.
H1 The father H6662 of the righteous H1524 shall greatly H1523 rejoice [H8799]   H3205 : and he that begetteth [H8802]   H2450 a wise H8055 child shall have joy [H8799]   of him.
H1 Thy father H517 and thy mother H8055 shall be glad [H8799]   H3205 , and she that bare [H8802]   H1523 thee shall rejoice [H8799]  .
H1121 My son H5414 , give [H8798]   H3820 me thine heart H5869 , and let thine eyes H7521 observe [H8799]   H5341   [H8799]   H1870 my ways.
H2181 For a whore [H8802]   H6013 is a deep H7745 ditch H5237 ; and a strange woman H6862 is a narrow H875 pit.
H693 She also lieth in wait [H8799]   H2863 as for a prey H3254 , and increaseth [H8686]   H898 the transgressors [H8802]   H120 among men.
H188 Who hath woe H17 ? who hath sorrow H4079 ? who hath contentions [H8675]   H4066   H7879 ? who hath babbling H6482 ? who hath wounds H2600 without cause H2448 ? who hath redness H5869 of eyes?
H309 They that tarry long [H8764]   H3196 at the wine H935 ; they that go [H8802]   H2713 to seek [H8800]   H4469 mixed wine.
H7200 Look [H8799]   H3196 not thou upon the wine H119 when it is red [H8691]   H5414 , when it giveth [H8799]   H5869 his colour H3563 in the cup [H8675]   H3599   H1980 , when it moveth [H8691]   H4339 itself aright.
H319 At the last H5391 it biteth [H8799]   H5175 like a serpent H6567 , and stingeth [H8686]   H6848 like an adder.
H5869 Thine eyes H7200 shall behold [H8799]   H2114 strange women [H8801]   H3820 , and thine heart H1696 shall utter [H8762]   H8419 perverse things.
H7901 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down [H8802]   H3820 in the midst H3220 of the sea H7901 , or as he that lieth [H8802]   H7218 upon the top H2260 of a mast.
H5221 They have stricken [H8689]   H2470 me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick [H8804]   H1986 ; they have beaten [H8804]   H3045 me, and I felt [H8804]   H6974 it not: when shall I awake [H8686]   H1245 ? I will seek [H8762]   H3254 it yet [H8686]   again.
ERV(i) 1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently him that is before thee; 2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. 3 Be not desirous of his dainties; seeing they are deceitful meat. 4 Weary not thyself to be rich; cease from thine own wisdom. 5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for [riches] certainly make themselves wings, like an eagle that flieth toward heaven. 6 Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties: 7 For as he reckoneth within himself, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. 8 The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words. 9 Speak not in the hearing of a fool; for he will despise the wisdom of thy words. 10 Remove not the ancient landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless: 11 For their redeemer is strong; he shall plead their cause against thee. 12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge. 13 Withhold not correction from the child: [for] if thou beat him with the rod, he shall not die. 14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from Sheol. 15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall be glad, even mine: 16 Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things. 17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but [be thou] in the fear of the LORD all the day long: 18 For surely there is a reward; and thy hope shall not be cut off. 19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way. 20 Be not among winebibbers; among gluttonous eaters of flesh: 21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe [a man] with rags. 22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. 23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; [yea], wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. 24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. 25 Let thy father and thy mother be glad, and let her that bare thee rejoice. 26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes delight in my ways. 27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit. 28 Yea, she lieth in wait as a robber, and increaseth the treacherous among men. 29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath complaining? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? 30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek out mixed wine. 31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth its colour in the cup, when it goeth down smoothly. 32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. 33 Thine eyes shall behold strange things, and thine heart shall utter froward things. 34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. 35 They have stricken me, [shalt thou say], and I was not hurt; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
