Joshua 2 And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly , saying , Go view the land , even Jericho . And they went , and came into an harlot's house , named Rahab , and lodged there.

2 H559 And it was told [H8735] H4428 the king H3405 of Jericho H559 , saying [H8800] H935 , Behold, there came [H8804] H582 men H3915 in hither to night H1121 of the children H3478 of Israel H2658 to search out [H8800] H776 the country.

3 H4428 And the king H3405 of Jericho H7971 sent [H8799] H7343 unto Rahab H559 , saying [H8800] H3318 , Bring forth [H8685] H582 the men H935 that are come [H8802] H935 to thee, which are entered [H8804] H1004 into thine house H935 : for they be come [H8804] H2658 to search out [H8800] H776 all the country.

4 H802 And the woman H3947 took [H8799] H8147 the two H582 men H6845 , and hid [H8799] H559 them, and said [H8799] H935 thus, There came [H8804] H582 men H3045 unto me, but I wist [H8804] H370 not whence they were :

5 H5462 And it came to pass about the time of shutting [H8800] H8179 of the gate H2822 , when it was dark H582 , that the men H3318 went out [H8804] H582 : whither the men H1980 went [H8804] H3045 I wot [H8804] H7291 not: pursue [H8798] H310 after H4118 them quickly H5381 ; for ye shall overtake [H8686] them.

6 H5927 But she had brought them up [H8689] H1406 to the roof H2934 of the house, and hid [H8799] H6086 them with the stalks H6593 of flax H6186 , which she had laid in order [H8803] H1406 upon the roof.

7 H582 And the men H7291 pursued [H8804] H310 after H1870 them the way H3383 to Jordan H4569 unto the fords H7291 : and as soon as they which pursued [H8802] H310 after H3318 them were gone out [H8804] H5462 , they shut [H8804] H8179 the gate.

8 H7901 And before they were laid down [H8799] H5927 , she came up [H8804] H1406 unto them upon the roof;

9 H559 And she said [H8799] H582 unto the men H3045 , I know [H8804] H3068 that the LORD H5414 hath given [H8804] H776 you the land H367 , and that your terror H5307 is fallen [H8804] H3427 upon us, and that all the inhabitants [H8802] H776 of the land H4127 faint [H8738] H6440 because of you.

11 H8085 And as soon as we had heard [H8799] H3824 these things, our hearts H4549 did melt [H8735] H6965 , neither did there remain [H8804] H7307 any more courage H376 in any man H6440 , because H3068 of you: for the LORD H430 your God H430 , he is God H8064 in heaven H4605 above H776 , and in earth beneath.

12 H7650 Now therefore, I pray you, swear [H8734] H3068 unto me by the LORD H3588 , since H6213 I have shewed [H8804] H2617 you kindness H6213 , that ye will also shew [H8804] H2617 kindness H1 unto my father's H1004 house H5414 , and give [H8804] H571 me a true H226 token:

13 H2421 And that ye will save alive [H8689] H1 my father H517 , and my mother H251 , and my brethren H269 , and my sisters H5337 , and all that they have, and deliver [H8689] H5315 our lives H4194 from death.

14 H582 And the men H559 answered [H8799] H5315 her, Our life H4191 for yours [H8800] H5046 , if ye utter [H8686] H1697 not this our business H3068 . And it shall be, when the LORD H5414 hath given [H8800] H776 us the land H6213 , that we will deal [H8804] H2617 kindly H571 and truly with thee.

15 H3381 Then she let them down [H8686] H2256 by a cord H1157 through H2474 the window H1004 : for her house H7023 was upon the town H2346 wall H3427 , and she dwelt [H8802] H2346 upon the wall.

16 H559 And she said [H8799] H3212 unto them, Get [H8798] H2022 you to the mountain H7291 , lest the pursuers [H8802] H6293 meet [H8799] H2247 you; and hide [H8738] H7969 yourselves there three H3117 days H7291 , until the pursuers [H8802] H7725 be returned [H8800] H310 : and afterward H3212 may ye go [H8799] H1870 your way.

17 H582 And the men H559 said [H8799] H5355 unto her, We will be blameless H7621 of this thine oath H7650 which thou hast made us swear [H8689] .

18 H935 Behold, when we come [H8802] H776 into the land H7194 , thou shalt bind [H8799] H8615 this line H8144 of scarlet H2339 thread H2474 in the window H3381 which thou didst let us down by [H8689] H622 : and thou shalt bring [H8799] H1 thy father H517 , and thy mother H251 , and thy brethren H1 , and all thy father's H1004 household H1004 , home unto thee.

19 H834 And it shall be, that whosoever H3318 shall go out [H8799] H1817 of the doors H1004 of thy house H2351 into the street H1818 , his blood H7218 shall be upon his head H5355 , and we will be guiltless H1004 : and whosoever shall be with thee in the house H1818 , his blood H7218 shall be on our head H3027 , if any hand be upon him.

20 H5046 And if thou utter [H8686] H1697 this our business H5355 , then we will be quit H7621 of thine oath H7650 which thou hast made us to swear [H8689] .

21 H559 And she said [H8799] H1697 , According unto your words H7971 , so be it. And she sent them away [H8762] H3212 , and they departed [H8799] H7194 : and she bound [H8799] H8144 the scarlet H8615 line H2474 in the window.

22 H3212 And they went [H8799] H935 , and came [H8799] H2022 unto the mountain H3427 , and abode [H8799] H7969 there three H3117 days H7291 , until the pursuers [H8802] H7725 were returned [H8804] H7291 : and the pursuers [H8802] H1245 sought [H8762] H1870 them throughout all the way H4672 , but found [H8804] them not.

23 H8147 So the two H582 men H7725 returned [H8799] H3381 , and descended [H8799] H2022 from the mountain H5674 , and passed over [H8799] H935 , and came [H8799] H3091 to Joshua H1121 the son H5126 of Nun H5608 , and told [H8762] H4672 him all things that befell [H8802] them:

24 H559 And they said [H8799] H3091 unto Joshua H3588 , Truly H3068 the LORD H5414 hath delivered [H8804] H3027 into our hands H776 all the land H3427 ; for even all the inhabitants [H8802] H776 of the country H4127 do faint [H8738] H6440 because of us.

And they went, and came into the house of an harlot whose name was Rahab, and lay there. ² And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to-night of the children of Israel to search out the land. ³ And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the land. ⁴ And the woman took the two men, and hid them; and she said, Yea, the men came unto me, but I wist not whence they were: ⁵ and it came to pass about the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them. ⁶ But she had brought them up to the roof, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof. ⁷ And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate. ⁸ And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof; ⁹ and she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you. ¹⁰ For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond Jordan, unto Sihon and to Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. ¹¹ And as soon as we had heard it, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath. ¹² Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have dealt kindly with you, that ye also will deal kindly with my father’s house, and give me a true token: ¹³ and that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and will deliver our lives from death. ¹⁴ And the men said unto her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business; and it shall be, when the LORD giveth us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee. ¹⁵ Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall. ¹⁶ And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers light upon you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way. ¹⁷ And the men said unto her, We will be guiltless of this thine oath which thou hast made us to swear. ¹⁸ Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt gather unto thee into the house thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household. ¹⁹ And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him. ²⁰ But if thou utter this our business, then we will be guiltless of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear. ²¹ And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window. ²² And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not. ²³ Then the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun; and they told him all that had befallen them. ²⁴ And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; and moreover all the inhabitants of the land do melt away before us.
