Genesis 38:14-30 And she put her widow’s garments off from her, and covered her with a veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given to him to wife.

15 H3063 When Judah H7200 saw H2803 her, he thought H2181 her to be an harlot; H3588 because H3680 she had covered H6440 her face.

16 H5186 And he turned H1870 to her by the way, H559 and said, H3051 Go H4994 to, I pray H935 you, let me come H3045 in to you; (for he knew H3618 not that she was his daughter H3618 in law. H559 ) And she said, H4100 What H5414 will you give H935 me, that you may come in to me?

17 H559 And he said, H7971 I will send H1423 you a kid H6629 from the flock. H559 And she said, H5414 Will you give H6162 me a pledge, H5704 till H7971 you send it?

18 H559 And he said, H834 What H6162 pledge H5414 shall I give H559 you? And she said, H2368 Your signet, H6616 and your bracelets, H4294 and your staff H3027 that is in your hand. H5414 And he gave H935 it her, and came H2029 in to her, and she conceived by him.

19 H6965 And she arose, H3212 and went H5493 away, and laid H6809 by her veil H3847 from her, and put H899 on the garments H491 of her widowhood.

20 H3063 And Judah H7971 sent H1423 the kid H3027 by the hand H7453 of his friend H5726 the Adullamite, H3947 to receive H6162 his pledge H802 from the woman’s H3027 hand: H4672 but he found her not.

21 H7592 Then he asked H582 the men H4725 of that place, H559 saying, H346 Where H6948 is the harlot, H5879 that was openly H1870 by the way H559 side? And they said, H3808 There was no H6948 harlot H2088 in this place.

22 H7725 And he returned H3063 to Judah, H559 and said, H3808 I cannot H4672 find H1571 her; and also H582 the men H4725 of the place H559 said, H3808 that there was no H6948 harlot H2088 in this place.

23 H3063 And Judah H559 said, H3947 Let her take H6435 it to her, lest H937 we be shamed: H2009 behold, H7971 I sent H2088 this H1423 kid, H4672 and you have not found her.

24 H1961 And it came H7969 to pass about three H2320 months H5046 after, that it was told H3063 Judah, H559 saying, H8559 Tamar H3618 your daughter H3618 in law H2181 has played the harlot; H1571 and also, H2009 behold, H2030 she is with child H2183 by prostitution. H3063 And Judah H559 said, H3318 Bring H3318 her forth, H8313 and let her be burnt.

25 H3318 When she was brought H3318 forth, H7971 she sent H2524 to her father H2524 in law, H559 saying, H376 By the man, H834 whose H428 these H2030 are, am I with child: H559 and she said, H5234 Discern, H4994 I pray H834 you, whose H428 are these, H2858 the signet, H6616 and bracelets, H4294 and staff.

26 H3063 And Judah H5234 acknowledged H559 them, and said, H6663 She has been more righteous H3588 than I; because H5414 that I gave H7956 her not to Shelah H1121 my son. H3045 And he knew H3254 her again H3808 no H5750 more.

27 H1961 And it came H6256 to pass in the time H3205 of her travail, H2009 that, behold, H8380 twins H990 were in her womb.

28 H1961 And it came H3205 to pass, when she travailed, H5414 that the one put H3027 out his hand: H3205 and the midwife H3947 took H7194 and bound H3027 on his hand H8144 a scarlet H559 thread, saying, H2088 This H3318 came H7223 out first.

29 H1961 And it came H7725 to pass, as he drew H7725 back H3027 his hand, H2009 that, behold, H251 his brother H3318 came H559 out: and she said, H4100 How H6555 have you broken H6556 forth? H6556 this breach H8034 be on you: therefore his name H7121 was called H6557 Pharez.

30 H310 And afterward H3318 came H251 out his brother, H8144 that had the scarlet H3027 thread on his hand: H8034 and his name H7121 was called H2226 Zarah.
