2 H274 And Ahaziah H5307 fell down [H8799] H7639 through a lattice H5944 in his upper chamber H8111 that was in Samaria H2470 , and was sick [H8799] H7971 : and he sent [H8799] H4397 messengers H559 , and said [H8799] H3212 unto them, Go [H8798] H1875 , enquire [H8798] H1176 of Baalzebub H430 the god H6138 of Ekron H2421 whether I shall recover [H8799] H2483 of this disease.

3 H4397 But the angel H3068 of the LORD H1696 said [H8765] H452 to Elijah H8664 the Tishbite H6965 , Arise [H8798] H5927 , go up [H8798] H7125 to meet [H8800] H4397 the messengers H4428 of the king H8111 of Samaria H1696 , and say [H8761] H430 unto them, Is it not because there is not a God H3478 in Israel H1980 , that ye go [H8802] H1875 to enquire [H8800] H1176 of Baalzebub H430 the god H6138 of Ekron?

4 H559 Now therefore thus saith [H8804] H3068 the LORD H3381 , Thou shalt not come down [H8799] H4296 from that bed H5927 on which thou art gone up [H8804] H4191 , but shalt surely [H8800] H4191 die [H8799] H452 . And Elijah H3212 departed [H8799] .

5 H4397 And when the messengers H7725 turned back [H8799] H559 unto him, he said [H8799] H2088 unto them, Why are ye now H7725 turned back [H8804] ?

6 H559 And they said [H8799] H5927 unto him, There came H376 a man H5927 up [H8804] H7125 to meet [H8800] H559 us, and said [H8799] H3212 unto us, Go [H8798] H7725 , turn again [H8798] H4428 unto the king H7971 that sent [H8804] H1696 you, and say [H8765] H559 unto him, Thus saith [H8804] H3068 the LORD H430 , Is it not because there is not a God H3478 in Israel H7971 , that thou sendest [H8802] H1875 to enquire [H8800] H1176 of Baalzebub H430 the god H6138 of Ekron H3381 ? therefore thou shalt not come down [H8799] H4296 from that bed H5927 on which thou art gone up [H8804] H4191 , but shalt surely [H8800] H4191 die [H8799] .

11 H7725 Again [H8799] H7971 also he sent [H8799] H312 unto him another H8269 captain H2572 of fifty H2572 with his fifty H6030 . And he answered [H8799] H1696 and said [H8762] H376 unto him, O man H430 of God H4428 , thus hath the king H559 said [H8804] H3381 , Come down [H8798] H4120 quickly.

12 H452 And Elijah H6030 answered [H8799] H1696 and said [H8762] H376 unto them, If I be a man H430 of God H784 , let fire H3381 come down [H8799] H8064 from heaven H398 , and consume [H8799] H2572 thee and thy fifty H784 . And the fire H430 of God H3381 came down [H8799] H8064 from heaven H398 , and consumed [H8799] H2572 him and his fifty.

13 H7971 And he sent [H8799] H7725 again [H8799] H8269 a captain H7992 of the third H2572 fifty H2572 with his fifty H7992 . And the third H8269 captain H2572 of fifty H5927 went up [H8799] H935 , and came [H8799] H3766 and fell [H8799] H1290 on his knees H5048 before H452 Elijah H2603 , and besought [H8691] H1696 him, and said [H8762] H376 unto him, O man H430 of God H5315 , I pray thee, let my life H5315 , and the life H2572 of these fifty H5650 thy servants H3365 , be precious [H8799] H5869 in thy sight.

14 H3381 Behold, there came H784 fire H3381 down [H8804] H8064 from heaven H398 , and burnt up [H8799] H8147 the two H8269 captains H7223 of the former H2572 fifties H2572 with their fifties H5315 : therefore let my life H3365 now be precious [H8799] H5869 in thy sight.

15 H4397 And the angel H3068 of the LORD H1696 said [H8762] H452 unto Elijah H3381 , Go down [H8798] H3372 with him: be not afraid [H8799] H6440 of him H6965 . And he arose [H8799] H3381 , and went down [H8799] H4428 with him unto the king.

16 H1696 And he said [H8762] H559 unto him, Thus saith [H8804] H3068 the LORD H7971 , Forasmuch as thou hast sent [H8804] H4397 messengers H1875 to enquire [H8800] H1176 of Baalzebub H430 the god H6138 of Ekron H430 , is it not because there is no God H3478 in Israel H1875 to enquire [H8800] H1697 of his word H3381 ? therefore thou shalt not come down [H8799] H4296 off that bed H5927 on which thou art gone up [H8804] H4191 , but shalt surely [H8800] H4191 die [H8799] .

17 H4191 So he died [H8799] H1697 according to the word H3068 of the LORD H452 which Elijah H1696 had spoken [H8765] H3088 . And Jehoram H4427 reigned [H8799] H8147 in his stead in the second H8141 year H3088 of Jehoram H1121 the son H3092 of Jehoshaphat H4428 king H3063 of Judah H1121 ; because he had no son.

And Elijah departed. ⁵ And the messengers returned unto him, and he said unto them, Why is it that ye are returned? ⁶ And they said unto him, There came up a man to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Is it because there is no God in Israel, that thou sendest to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from the bed whither thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. ⁷ And he said unto them, What manner of man was he which came up to meet you, and told you these words? ⁸ And they answered him, He was an hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. ¹¹ And again he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly. ¹² And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. ¹³ And again he sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight. ¹⁴ Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and consumed the two former captains of fifty with their fifties: but now let my life be precious in thy sight. ¹⁵ And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king. ¹⁶ And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word? therefore thou shalt not come down from the bed whither thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. ¹⁷ So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram began to reign in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son. ¹⁸ Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
