1 Samuel 11 Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabesh–gilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve you.

1 H5176 Then Nahash H5984 the Ammonite H5927 came up, H2583 and encamped H3003 against Jabesh–gilead: H582 and all the men H3003 of Jabesh H559 said H5176 unto Nahash, H3772 Make H1285 a covenant H5647 with us, and we will serve you.

2 H5176 And Nahash H5984 the Ammonite H559 answered H2063 them, On this H3772 condition will I make H5365 a covenant with you, that I may thrust out H3225 all your right H5869 eyes, H7760 and lay H2781 it for a reproach H3478 upon all Israel.

3 H2205 And the elders H3003 of Jabesh H559 said H7651 unto him, Give us seven H3117 days' H7503 respite, H7971 that we may send H4397 messengers H1366 unto all the coasts H3478 of Israel: H3467 and then, if there be no man to save H3318 us, we will come out to you.

4 H935 Then came H4397 the messengers H1390 to Gibeah H7586 of Saul, H1696 and told H1697 the tidings H241 in the ears H5971 of the people: H5971 and all the people H5375 lifted up H6963 their voices, H1058 and wept.

5 H7586 And, behold, Saul H935 came H310 after H1241 the herd H7704 out of the field; H7586 and Saul H559 said, H5971 What ails the people H1058 that they weep? H5608 And they told H1697 him the tidings H582 of the men H3003 of Jabesh.

6 H7307 And the Spirit H430 of God H6743 came H7586 upon Saul H8085 when he heard H1697 those tidings, H639 and his anger H2734 was kindled H3966 greatly.

7 H3947 And he took H6776 a yoke H1241 of oxen, H5408 and hewed them in pieces, H7971 and sent H1366 them throughout all the coasts H3478 of Israel H3027 by the hands H4397 of messengers, H559 saying, H3318 Whoever comes not forth H310 after H7586 Saul H310 and after H8050 Samuel, H6213 so shall it be done H1241 unto his oxen. H6343 And the fear H3068 of the Lord H5307 fell H5971 on the people, H3318 and they came out H259 with one H376 consent.

8 H6485 And when he numbered H966 them in Bezek, H1121 the sons H3478 of Israel H7969 were three H3967 hundred H505 thousand, H376 and the men H3063 of Judah H7970 thirty H505 thousand.

9 H559 And they said H4397 unto the messengers H935 that came, H559 Thus shall you say H376 unto the men H3003 of Jabesh–gilead, H4279 To morrow, H8121 by that time the sun H2527 be hot, H8668 you shall have help. H4397 And the messengers H935 came H5046 and showed H582 it to the men H3003 of Jabesh; H8055 and they were glad.

10 H582 Therefore the men H3003 of Jabesh H559 said, H4279 To morrow H3318 we will come out H6213 unto you, and you shall do H5869 with us all that seems H2896 good unto you.

11 H4283 And it was so on the next day, H7586 that Saul H7760 put H5971 the people H7969 in three H7218 companies; H935 and they came H8432 into the middle H4264 of the army H1242 in the morning H821 watch, H5221 and killed H5983 the Ammonites H2527 until the heat H3117 of the day: H7604 and it came to pass, that they which remained H6327 were scattered, H8147 so that two H7604 of them were not left H3162 together.

12 H5971 And the people H559 said H8050 unto Samuel, H559 Who is he that said, H7586 Shall Saul H4427 reign H5414 over us? bring H582 the men, H4191 that we may put them to death.

13 H7586 And Saul H559 said, H376 There shall not a man H4191 be put to death H3117 this day: H3117 for to day H3068 the Lord H6213 has worked H8668 salvation H3478 in Israel.

14 H559 Then said H8050 Samuel H5971 to the people, H3212 Come, H3212 and let us go H1537 to Gilgal, H2318 and renew H4410 the kingdom there.

15 H5971 And all the people H3212 went H1537 to Gilgal; H7586 and there they made Saul H4427 king H6440 before H3068 the Lord H1537 in Gilgal; H2076 and there they sacrificed H2077 sacrifices H8002 of peace offerings H6440 before H3068 the Lord; H7586 and there Saul H582 and all the men H3478 of Israel H8055 rejoiced H3966 greatly.
